Fish disease case Nr. 176 Guppy endler with a bacterial infection, with tubercles in the organs

Gerald Bassleer examines a bacterial infection in an Endler guppy showing wasting, gill damage, and tubercles in the organs. Microscopy reveals rod-shaped bacteria likely Mycobacterium. Treatment focuses on husbandry fixes and functional food with Fucoidan, plus antibacterial drugs if gills are severely affected.

Hello, dear Aquarist, welcome again to my case 176. Yes, already so many. And today it's about a live bearer. Yes, again, a live bearer. But this one, the popular fish, a guppy. Yes, we will talk about a diseased guppy, Endler. And it's about the bacterial infection, which is something important that can occur in ornamental fish. We found a bacterial infection with many tubercles in the organs Mycobacterium. So let me share you my findings in this PowerPoint. Of course I share my findings also in my books on fish diseases. Maybe you find your language and you can find it in the link below. But it could be antler somewhere skinny. Not so many, but some are skinny and some died in the last couple weeks. You can see some of the skinny ones in between. And that's the one. So here is one in the back, at the back. They're not swimming up front. They're usually at the back. They're separating from the group and they're slowly wasting away. And we checked the gills and you could see already that the gills were badly affected. The lamella were fused, they were reddish. And we could see there was a bacterial infection causing the gills to malfunction. And inside we found tubercles in the organs, in the mesenteria. You can see it here, all the tubercles here where you see it at a higher magnification. And this is of course a bad sign. There's something going on. And usually when we find tubercles, in most cases, according to scientific studies, it's Mycobacterium, a gram positive bacteria. And we find also a lot of rod shaped bacteria. Here is one tubercle. And here in the fluid, in the abdominal fluid, we find a lot of bacteria. And here we see it in a video. It's at a 400 magnification. We see all those millions of bacteria which of course have an impact on the health of the fish. The organs affecting the health of the fish. So you can see how many bacteria. So I move a little bit tuning my microscopes. You can see different situations. Well, they could be endler as a treatment. Well, we have to realize that this problem came from a breeder. Yeah, the breeder can also breed diseases. And your actions that you can take is improving the conditions, the best water, good food, avoiding stress, etc. We recommend also a functional food that helps in repair and improving immunity. For this case we had developed or Dr. Basler buy fish food Fuko an extract of fukoi dump and not feeding any other food at the meantime, just three, four weeks only. This food would help a lot to save the fish which are still strong and not so badly affected and not having secondary heavily infected gills. So in that case, when the gills are so badly affected, you might have to use an antibacterial treatment that could help to control the mixed in bacterial infection because usually it's different kind of bacteria affecting your guppy in this case. So more details in my books that teach you fish diseases and also my patreon there you can also get teaching tools to become a more professional expert on fish diseases. So I hope this video helped you to understand a bacterial infection in a guppy. Thank you for watching.
