Fish disease case nr. 215 Celestichthys Pearl Danio with a parasitic and bacterial infection

Gerald Bassleer diagnoses a Pearl Danio with Cryptobia flagellates and a secondary bacterial infection. The fish shows skin wasting, darkening, and gill damage. Treatment combines metronidazole, formalin, and antibacterial medication, plus supportive feeding.

Hello dear aquarists, welcome to this study of a pearl, Danio celestictis, which has a bacterial and a parasitic infection. I share you my PowerPoint so you can follow my findings which I obtained by using my microscope. So this fish, the Cilistichtis, was suffering of a parasitic and a bacterial infection. Details on treatments and diagnosis and photographs of diseased fish, etc. You can find in my books links is below. You can purchase the books online. Here we see that Celestictis margaritatus, the Pearl Daniel, was wasting away hanging at the surface and some were getting dark. You can see it here in the back. They're getting skinny and it always starts with a few and one which is going to die, like this one here. And that's the one we take out for examination. It gives you the best sample to use for your microscopic observations. And you can see that a few other ones are getting in the same signs or symptoms of disease. They're getting dark and waste away and you have losses. We took a skin scraping and you could see here the tiny little parasites moving around. Look at them here and here, tiny flagellates called cryptobia. They're tiny, they're small. Here we see them bigger magnification. You see them here, moving around. See here the whitest ones, they're different than Costia because Costia is more like a bean shaped and circling around, moving around like this. But this one is more at stats then with their flagella and causing, well, irritation and damage and then causing of course secondary bacterial infections. Like here on the gills you can see some of the parasites on the gills, you can see them here twirling around, moving around here and damaging the tissue. And then you can see here bacterial infection is occurring and that's of course killing then eventually the fish. Unfortunately that's what happens. The bacteria eventually kills the fish. The secondary infection, well, the treatment put the badly infected fish gently asleep with no help will be there. Good for this one which is very badly damaged, too far gone, too late to treat. We could determine that was cryptobia flagellates combined with a secondary bacterial infection. So you should treat with an antibacterial medication and antiparasitic medication here. For cryptobio we suggest combination of metronidazole together with formalin, malachite green or FMC and methylene blue. That's my formula which I describe in my books. Or ask your fish doctor for appropriate medication. You can help the fish to repair with a functional food like our Dr. Basleer Bifisch Aloe vera. Some things that can help you improve the health, particularly the fish which are still eating and still in good condition. So to prevent it getting worse, but still you have to use medication. The food is not a medication, it's a support for repair and for good immunity of the fish. Details on fish diseases, diagnosis, prevention and treatment in my books available or get your training at my Patreon to become a fish docker or learn about quarantine, learn about fish disease diagnosis, how you can learn about this. So I hope this video explained you this kind of problem that can exist on a Pearl. Daniel thank you for watching and subscribe to learn more about my videos on fish diseases.
