YouTube video (case #222) by Gerald Bassleer describing a fantail/fancy goldfish suffering eye loss alongside bacterial disease and parasitic gill flukes. The presenter documents clinical signs (red bleeding behind the eye, badly damaged gills with bacterial gill rot, visible gill flukes, tubercles in spleen and kidney), discusses likely causes (tuberculosis weakening organs, secondary bacterial/parasitic infections, and possible cannibalism by larger tankmates), and gives practical recommendations: separate aggressive/larger fish or isolate weak ones, euthanize very debilitated fish, treat gill rot and gill flukes with veterinarian/shop-supplied medications, and support recovery with functional foods (garlic-added diets). Hello, dear aquarist, thanks for watching this.
Video about the fancy goldfish.
A fantail that has a bacterial infection.
And a parasitic infection, like gill fruits. So I will share you my findings.
In the PowerPoint that here comes available.
And the fantail at the same time was losing an eye.
Eye losses has a bacterial infection.
Gill flukes.
Details on fish diseases, prevention and treatment.
All available in my books.
And here we can see the fantail.
That lost an eye.
Some other ones look okay, look more healthy, has less infection.
But those with the eyes were dying.
And some were doing well. And some were not doing well.
We examined the fish.
We saw some red bleeding parts behind the eye.
When we examined the fish, we found bacterial gill rot.
Bad gills infected with bacteria, badly damaged. Of course, that kills the fish too.
We found gill flukes.
You see the flukes here on top of the gills. Also here, which are below the gills. Hard to see here in the microscope.
In a clear view.
But you see there are gill flukes also affecting the fish.
And then the internal organs had tubercles.
In the spleen, in the kidney, all.
Bad tubercles causing, well, bad organs, causing.
Bad condition of the fish.
Weakening of the fish.
And then, of course, the bigger ones in the tank, which look healthier, can become a cannibal.
Cannibalism of the more dominant ones.
And might eat an eye, for instance.
Particularly when the fish are weak or.
The eye is protruding.
Sometimes fish can be nasty to each other.
And I would recommend to separate the bigger fish.
So for a treatment for a fantail like this. Well, some fish are damaged and weak. Mostly caused, I would say, by the tuberculos. The organs are badly damaged.
And then gets other secondary bacterial infections and a parasitic infection here with gill flukes.
At the badly damaged fish missing an eye.
We should put the gently asleep.
Separate the bigger fish, the more dominant fish.
That will not help the weaker ones. Or separate the weaker ones.
Is a choice you make.
But particularly when different sizes of mixed.
Alight here is not so good.
We should treat the gill rod and the gill flukes.
Ask your aquarium shop or fish doctor.
