Fish disease case nr. 231 Apistogramma agassizi, dwarf cichlid, has a bacterial infection

Gerald Bassleer diagnoses a bacterial infection in an Apistogramma agassizi dwarf cichlid showing emaciation and gill damage. Contaminated frozen food likely caused it. Treatment involves antibiotics, better water quality, hiding places, and immune-supportive foods.

Hello, dear aquarist, dear fish keeper. For those that like Apistogramma, the dwarf cichlids. Here a case about a bacterial infection in Apistogramma agassizi, which is quite common in dwarf cichlids. I encountered this quite often and so I explain you my findings and my suggestions what you can do about it. How to do the best for this kind of paras infection in the Apistogramma. So it's an Apistogramma agassizi which had a bacterial infection. Prevention, diagnosis and treatments are available with lots of information and photographs in my books in different languages. See the link below. Here we see the apistogrammar and some of those Apistos showed poor behavior, become skinny, are separated. You can see them in the back here. Those up front here are more active, more healthy, looking for food. But there are a few which are not behaving normally. And that's the ones we pull out, the ones in poor condition. And that's the ones we use for examination. Because the whole group of Apistogram might suffer from something we can cure and can do something about it. We found some damage in the gills due to a bacterial infection. Not very large, but already a problem that can develop in the days and become very serious and causing gill rot. We found that the internal organs here, like the spleen and the liver, had melanomacrophage centers. And the spleen already has some bad functioning. You can see that. So that's the findings we found in this fish. Poor behavior. Some look fine, but for how long they will be in good condition. That will be in the coming days if you don't take action. So as soon as possible you must make sure the water quality is good, the fish have good hiding places and plants, good food, not overcrowding, etc. You have to inform the breeder or the supplier to take preventative actions. Because usually the fish, like a dwarf cichlids get sick because they receive polluted food. Food with bacteria. So we always recommend to feed with granulated food that has known to contain no bacterial, b pathogenic or any troubling bacteria. It's usually life of frozen food has a a risk for causing this kind of problem. Treatments with antibiotics should help. So ask your fish doctor for advice or get my books and you can help the Apistol with a functional fish food to help the immunity system of the fish to heal themselves. With Dr. Basler who buy fish food. Grapefruit seed extract, moringa. More info you can get in my books available on a link here below. So subscribe to stay tuned and get more information on diseases of fish and how to diagnose and how to cure. You can also get a specific training at my fish doctoring at our Patreon. So I hope this video explained you to understand bacterial infection in Apistogrammas. Thank you for watching.
