Fish disease case nr. 240 Paracanthurus hepatus with parasitic infection Spironucleus or Hexamita

Gerald Bassleer diagnoses a wild-caught blue tang with heavy Spironucleus infection in the gut and abdominal cavity. He recommends a 48-hour tetrin treatment combining metronidazole with ferraltadone to control the parasite and secondary bacterial effects, stressing that good handling and acclimation prevent the problem.

Hello, dear aist, welcome again to one of my videos on marine fish diseases. This case, it's about the blue Hepatus tang or Paracanturus hepatus. The blue tang used to be called the dory from the movie. Well, this fish is very common in the hobby, very common in the industry. And yes, when they are collected from the wild they can have problems. And we found some diseases that I would like to share with you and can help you to understand fish diseases. And here the paracaturis hepatus, heteroperosites, spiranucleus, used to be called hexameter. And these fish, well, are most likely described also in my book. Look at a front picture of my book on marine fish diseases. I talk about these Paracaturis hepatos because they are common. And you can learn about those fish diseases in my books available in different languages. The Hepatos arrived this from a wild fish supplier from fish supply that came from an exporter. And you can see the the variety of fish that arrived here in the fish tank you see a photograph and there were some skinny ones and there were some losses reported. So I received one fish for examination and they had no particular signs. Maybe some damage on the fins and the tail, maybe some, well, maybe look a little bit skinny. Well what you expect after some transport or collecting and shipping that can have an impact on the health of the fish. And maybe some pale patches were a sign on this fish. Well, maybe some little bit damaged still. But the fish were not looking healthy. They were suffering and there were real losses reported. So what we do, we examine them. And from this fish we found that in the gut we found the parasite spiral nucleus. You can see here a large quantity of little parasites moving around in between the excrements. And also sometimes you find them between the organs in the abdominal cavity, next to the liver or the spleen. So these parasites are serious problem on this small fish. And usually these parasites can cause holes in the head or other problems. But these fish are so small they don't. They die before they even can show any other signs or lesions. So the origin here for a mite in this case was a parasitic infection due to the poor history of the fish, transport, collecting, bagging, acclimation, et cetera. And we recommended the tetrin treatment with metronidazole combined with ferraltadone. Ferraltadone has control of the secondary bacterial effects that often occur when spiral nucleus is infecting this kind of fish. And you apply the treatment in according water for 48 hours 48 hours treatment. So follow the directions you get from your fish doctor or your pet shop or from my books. And you also can help with a functional fish food that helps to fight off the infection and also helps in the repair of the fish like we Recommend with our Dr. Basler by Fish Food Lapacho. Very good for marine fish. So more details on fish diseases and treatments in my books on fish diseases. The link is below. And training on fish diseases and fish doc you can get at my Patreon. So I hope this video on the marine fish disease help you to understand and how to avoid, how to prevent, how to treat here. In this case, preventing is preventing distress. Good acclimation, good handling is also avoiding that diseases occur. Watch my playlist on marine fish disease and give your comments if you have any opinion or experience. Interesting. Always to learn. Thank you for watching.
