Fish disease case nr. 332 Platy with scale holes, bacterial infection, parasites Ichthyobodo Costia

Gerald Bassleer diagnoses a platy with scale holes, bacterial infection, and Ichthyobodo parasites using skin scrapings and microscopy. The fish had amoebae eating through scales and a massive bacterial load. He recommends FMC treatment for the parasites and antibacterial therapy.

Hello, dear fish keeper, dear acorist, welcome again to my YouTube channel, to one of my videos where I discuss diseases of fish that I encountered during my work as a fish doctor. So I put them all in cases. This is case 332 of Cause, a collection that might be interesting for you to watch. In my playlist of fish disease cases, many different cases, many different fish diseases of many different fish species. I also have a listing of according to the groups of fish, Cichlids, like discus is in a separate playlist. Or live bearers, like the platy today is in the live bearers group. And all the gouramis are different groups. So to give you an idea, look at my YouTube channel, look at my playlist. You might find the fish back or even the problems back that you might have encountered. And today I will talk about a platy that had a mix of problems. And the observation in the aquarium was very clear that we have to use a microscope because the fish in this case was suffering from a bacterial infection. Scale holes and parasites. Ichthyobodo that used to be called Kostia. If you don't have my books yet, try to get my books on fish diseases. They are available in different languages. The link is below, where you can order them directly from us. And here is the platy coral, red and white. Some fish become skinny. You look at the one here, they're wasting away and die. See the one hanging here up front? And that's the one you have to take out for examination. The other ones look still okay for now, but in the coming weeks or days, some other ones become sick. Maybe tomorrow three. And within four or five days, maybe 20 or 30, are showing this bad behavior and dying. And this is the one we took out. Look how skinny it is. Wasting away. And this fish is going to die within the coming hours. So we took it out and we took skin scrapings and we found holes in the scales. Look, this should not be there. This part of the scale is normal, but this is not normal. And this is called by amoeba. I have this described in my book the Practical Guide, because this came out later on only these diseases. Only about 1450 years ago it was discovered by Dr. Jungkis from Russia, a very specialized fish doctor, which I was happy to encounter during my work and my teaching in the world. So amoebas, hard to see with a microscope, Very, very tiny. And making those holes at the same time. We found Kostia parasites. You see them here turning around. The typical behavior of Kostia of the skin scraping we found a lot of bacteria. Look at a massive load we took out from the skin on the skin. Massive load of bacteria not normal. So the treatment Diabo that causes scale holes can be treated with fmc. See the formula of FMC in my books. Ichthyoboda or Kostia will be killed with that FMC treatment. And at the same time you might think about using an antibacterial medication or antibiotic. Ask your vet, fish doctor or pet shop. Because the parasites cause damage, the bacteria become maybe a secondary infection and make it even worse and kill the fish. Eventually you can help with a functional fish food that helps the fish to regain more immunity. I would recommend in this case Dr. Basler Bifish food Forte also think about your water conditions that the fish has no stress, good water supply, good filtration because this case can start because of poor environmental conditions. I explained that in my videos in the causes of fish disease. Look at my YouTube channel and look for causes of fish diseases. Why do the fish get sick? My books also explain it. Prevention, diagnosis and what medications to use. Or you can get specific training. Depends what you need.
