Content leads to Clarity to Clients

George Kao argues that instead of defining a target market first, creators should produce authentic content describing their passions, opinions, and expertise. By observing who responds and which topics gain traction, creators gain clarity about their ideal audience and what products or services to offer, which then leads to clients.

When you first start to create your authentic business, a business that feels true to your heart, that allows you to feel like you're really serving the world, you typically get the advice that you need to define your target market. First. You hear people tell you you've got to understand who your audience is, and then you go create a product and you go advertise it. That's not the way that I recommend because, well, a lot of people do that and they don't find success because they find it so hard to figure.
Out who is my ideal client, who.
Is my target market, what is my niche. I think that you're putting the cart before the horse. When you try to get clarity at that stage, at the early stage, here's what I recommend. Create authentic content first. And from that you will get the clarity. And from that you get the clients. So what I mean is, when you start with creating authentic content, you start by sharing with the world what your passion is, by giving opinions about things.
That you have a strong opinion about.
By helping others learn something that you've.
Learned and you love helping others learn by answering questions for other people that you know how to solve a particular problem or reach a particular goal. When you start with your own authentic.
Content, and then you notice who is.
Responding to your authentic content, what type of person are they? Okay. And which of all the different pieces of content you create, what is getting the most traction? What topic when you talk about, or subtopic when you talk about it, gets people most excited about it? That's when clarity comes into being. To say, oh, my people are these types of people. Of all the people I share my content with, these are the types of people who get the most out of what? Out of my personality. They get. They're most resonant with my voice, my style, my message. They care the most about the things I talk about. These are my ideal audience. And then as you look at of all the different topics you talk about what. What gets people, these people, most excited. Then you get more clarity about what kinds of product and services you can then build from the content that is getting the most excitement. Whether you create the product or service or you curate, you bring to your audience and sell it to them and earn a living doing it. Basically, you create content which then leads to the clarity, which then leads to.
The customers or the clients.
People typically flip it the way around and say, well, I gotta have clarity first. And then I might create content or I might go right to the clients. So I hope this is helpful as a different way of thinking about it, a way that I have found for myself, much more successful that I've helped clients with as well. So content, authentic content leads to authentic clarity, which then leads to clients that you really enjoy serving.
