Don't be the best. Be the ONLY. Clarify your unique combination of strengths!

George Kao argues you shouldn't chase being the best at everything. Instead, find your rare combination of strengths, like a good voice, design skills, or humor, and build your work around those. Ask friends what you're naturally good at, then let that guide what you actually make.

Each of us has a rare combination of strengths. And in this video I'm going to rattle off a bunch of possible strengths. And I encourage you to think about, well, what are my, what's my rare combination? Because here's the thing, you don't want to try to be the best at everything, right? Because if you try to be the best at every area of your business, it's exhausting. Other people are just naturally stronger at it and they're going to just, you know, be, be, you know, be able to go ahead much faster. What you want to be is to be the only. So for example, I'm not trying to be the best at making video, but I'm trying to make video in the way that only I can. I'm trying to express my energy signature as fully as I can and I want you to do that as well. So let me just kind of name a bunch of strengths. I have a blog post about this if you want to Google clarify your unique strengths. George Cow, you should find my blog post or list of traits. George Cow, you should find my blog post about this. And I have a bunch, but I'm going to just list out a bunch quickly and see if any of these resonate with you. And you could say, I'm going to put this combination together and become just come alive in your business and make it so much more enjoyable for you and more successful for you. So, okay, one, have people told you that you are attractive? Okay, to be honest. And again, we're being honest here. We're not trying to be polite with each other. I have not been told that I'm attractive. Okay, if you have been told you're attracted, you should take more selfie photos and put that on your social media. Honestly, I'm just being honest here. Just your natural looks are just above average. Okay. Notice I don't tend to do that. And I'll tell you why I still make video. But if you're naturally attractive, you should make videos because, well, it's just going to be easier for you to get an audience that way. I still make videos for other reasons that I'm going to list later. Okay, so number one, number two, do you have a pleasant voice? Have people told you that you have a nice speaking voice? Like above average speaking voice? That's one of my advantages. Again, we're being honest. I'm not naturally better looking than others, but I have a naturally better voice than others. And therefore that's why I'm making video. Because video message type videos. Because a lot of people don't really watch message videos, they listen to them. Like you, you might be on Instagram or watching me on YouTube or whatever and you might just be doing other stuff while you listen to my message. That's fine. A lot of people do that. I do that too. I'm cleaning the house and I'm listening to YouTube videos. Voice matters for video. So if you have a naturally above average voice, that's also one of the reasons to make video, even if you're not as good looking. So okay, we can join the non good looking club of people making videos with a nice voice. But another one is if you're naturally charismatic and motivational in your speaking. That's also one of my advantages. It actually, by the way, it wasn't one of my advantages. Early on, early on in life, I think I always had that seed within me of wanting to connect with people. Like yearning to serve people and to help them and to see them come alive. I think that's always been within me. But I was really, really shy in my early years and I was kind of bullied by the way, for being shy in school like people like George, why are you so quiet? Why? But then over time, as I became a young adult, I was. Luckily I took certain courses that encouraged me to speak up, to speak in a safe setting. And then I came alive and you know, I, that's why I'm, you know, I'm on video also. Even though I'm not, not as good looking as some people, I have good voice. I am naturally charismatic or motivational. I practiced that a lot over the years. That's not one of my strengths. That's why I'm making videos. Well, do you have more time than some people? Because you aren't working a full time job. You can build your business. You're really lucky. I have some clients who work a full time job. They have so little time that we can't experiment much. We have to just really focus on one thing and hope it works. You know, if you have more time, if you don't have a full time job, you can build your business with more hours. Count yourself lucky. You can experiment with many different. You can take more courses, implement more courses. You're lucky. Do you have more money than more than other people? Some of you don't. That's okay. Keep, keep going. I have some more for you. But if you have more money, then you can spend money on ads, build an audience faster. Do you love to write? I'll be honest with you, I don't like to write. That's been one of my disadvantages over the years. I still. And or are you better at writing than most people? Again, be honest with you. I'm a worse writer than the average writer. I'm not being polite, I'm not being self deprecating for no good reason. I'm just being honest. I have a good eye for good writing, I'll put it that way. And I know my writing is not good writing, but I still do it because like I said, it's my business. I teach people, people how to do marketing. So I kind of have to write. I do it by necessity, not by joy, not by enjoyment. But some of you naturally just like to write. Or you're a better writer, you're better. You should do more of it, lean into it, write more articles. Write more on every platform, including Instagram, you know, with the carousel post everywhere. Okay. Are you, do you have graphic design skills? I don't. Okay. That's why my stuff so looks so basic, right? Graphically, if you have graphic design skills or you enjoy tinkering, you should do more of it. Do more of it on social media, on all your content, on your sales pages, etc. Are you naturally funny? I think I'm a little bit funny. I don't know. I think my friends would say, george, you make bad jokes. Okay, fine. But I have very supportive clients who probably tell me I'm funny. They probably shouldn't encourage me. But if some of you are naturally funny, you should really lean into that. Okay, well, I'm just gonna. You can google my blog post for a bunch more. Like a couple dozen more. And the point is not to have more strengths. The point is to lean into the few strengths that you do have and really make those that combination come alive in your content, in your offers, etc. Because all of us, all of us have certain quirks, certain strengths that we have maybe said, ah, no big deal. No, it is a big deal. And you should ask your friends what your unique strengths are and really focus on your time and energy on those so that your business becomes more enjoyable and easier to reach success. So I hope this is helpful, I hope this is motivational and I wish you a wonderful day. Thank you so much for joining me here and for your kind comments.
