Let's stop buying from people who are selling us money & fame...

George Kao argues that expensive group programs promising success through a few highlighted case studies fail most people. He recommends spending that money on one-to-one coaching instead, where you get personalized strategies built on service and sustainability rather than chasing money and fame.

I see a lot of people buying these expensive business and training programs that promise to make them lots of money. And I think it's dangerous for a couple of reasons. And those training programs I'm talking about are the ones that are a thousand or two thousand dollars to join the program. And you're with this enormous group of people that are hundreds of people who buy into it, or maybe even thousands. And you've got the recorded modules of the creator of the program and you barely get access to, to her, or if you do, it's in quite a large group. And I think it's dangerous because those programs do not deliver the results for the majority of the people who buy them. Now you can't see that from the, from the side of what as a consumer, what you're seeing is you're being marketed to these success case stories, etc. Well, I will tell you, from someone who's been on the inside, from someone who has sold those programs quite successfully for the first couple years of my business and have helped other people sell such programs that for every thousand people who buy into a program like that, you might get maybe 20 or 30 out of a thousand who might get kind of extraordinary results that they then profile as testimonials and case studies. But what's interesting is that those 20 or 30 people might have gotten those extraordinary results even without buying that program. They maybe were just on the verge of getting that kind of success and that those programs would then say, well look, you know, our program helped this person reach, so it's so deceptive, the marketing of those programs. And I will tell you again, having been on the inside and having worked with many people who sell such programs, that the seller of those programs, their dedication to their profit and the profit of their company is far greater than their dedication to you as the individual buyer. And so I want to really encourage you instead of spending money. And there's my dog that just found me again, he was walking with my wife. Instead of spending money on those programs, $1,000, $2,000, sometimes even more, take that same amount of money and spend it with a one to one business and marketing coach who cares about you. Now, I'm saying this not because I'm trying to look for clients right now. I'm actually my practice is full, so I can't even take on any clients. But if you contact me, I will do my best to refer you on to somebody that I know cares and that I trust in terms of their skill sets. But I just really want to encourage you the journey of making enough money, the journey of building an authentic business has so many individualized challenges that you really would benefit from having a one to one expert guide instead of being in this huge group. Huge tour group. Okay, so I say tour group meaning a huge group that's going through a particular curriculum. So in that one to one experience, you're going to be able to solve the kinds of problems that you need to solve. You'll be able to set up your individualized systems, your individualized strategies, so that these things feel authentic to you rather than being sold on some formula that's supposed to work for thousands or tens of thousands of people. It's not. To build a business that you will actually be happy with requires a lot of individualized customization of the systems, the strategies, the processes that you're going to have to do for your business. And the other reason I want to mention why these programs are so dangerous is because the marketing of these programs focuses our human minds on things that are not healthy for us. So would you agree with me that the purpose of life is not to make money? The purpose of life is also not to build a big email list and to build a huge audience, right? You would agree with me on that, wouldn't you? Well, the purpose of life, we might say, is more accurately to serve and uplift others and as a result grow ourselves, grow our character, grow our connection to the divine right. And the marketing of such programs focuses so much on money making and audience building that we become so singularly focused on those things that becomes unhealthy for us. And actually the irony is it doesn't build us an authentic business, because an authentic business, just like the purpose of life, because the purpose of life, like Viktor Frankl, I love his quote when he says success is not to be pursued. Success will ensue as a product of the dedication that you have to something greater than yourself. So the same thing, interestingly in building an authentic business is success will happen as a result of your dedication to serving your audience in the right ways and to make sure that your service is sustainable for yourself as well. But when you focus on service and focus on the sustainability of the service, success happens as a byproduct of money and sustainable incomes happen as a byproduct. So I hope that all of us will stop supporting the marketing of these big thousand dollars, $2,000 big group programs and instead take that money and invest it into the one to one coaching that will actually help us to succeed. As someone who has experienced it from both sides, from the selling side and from the consuming side. Myself, I've consumed these big programs and I've consumed one on one coaching and I will tell you, it is a night and day difference. So let's stop supporting the people who are dedicated more to their profits than to any individual buyer and let's instead channel that towards more responsible businesses and as a result, you'll experience more success yourself. So I hope this is helpful. My name is George Kao. Until the next video, I wish you a dedication, a return to the dedication of what is true and as a result, experiencing true success for yourself as well. I'm always open to your comments and your questions and until the next video, I wish you well.
