"Life is unpredictable… how do I create consistently?"

A creator shares how to keep making content when life gets messy. The approach: treat your audience like friends, start small enough that you'll actually stick with it, and let your real self show up instead of performing a perfect version.
This video is for all of you who wish you could be consistent in creating content, but you somehow just can't get yourself to be consistent in doing it. And one of the very valid reasons is that life is tumultuous for you. You have unexpected family caretaking to do or caretaking for yourself to do, or work emergencies or other obligations that people have of you that take a lot of your energy. And then therefore you don't feel like you have the mental space, the bandwidth to be creative. Right? And so therefore it's feels impossible to be consistent in creating well in this video, I'm hoping that some perspectives I'll share with you will help you to open up some possibilities, to be consistent again and to do it in the light way. So before I get there, first let me rattle off some of the benefits of creating consistently just to remind you of why it's a worthy effort. I have been creating content consistently for the last 10 years. I wish I was doing it even longer. I started my business 16 years ago and when I began my business I thought, oh, content creation, that's just for people who don't, aren't being super productive in their business. They really should just be selling things and getting clients and why are they creating content? So I, I had a, I had a very, yeah, I, in my opinion, a wrong view about, about content creation. Also I thought, well, you know, this content creation is for people who like, like to show themselves off or whatever. And it just some wrong views. Eventually I came to realize that I myself was benefiting so much from other people creating content. I would listen to podcasts, I would watch YouTube videos, I would read articles and I'm like, okay. And one, I was benefiting a lot and I felt like maybe I should give back in that way too because I had learned a lot from, from my own using my own skills. I had learned a lot from helping other people. Secondly, I was like, not only am I giving back, but as I consume other people's content, I appreciate them and appreciate appreciating them leads me sometimes to buying their services and their products. So it's also great for marketing. And so I, I really began the journey 10 years ago with this desire to both give back content as ministry as well as content as a way of staying top of mind for my network, for my audience to refer business to me, that kind of thing. And once I started creating consistently, okay, because I started, I'm really glad. I don't know how this idea came, maybe from some other content creator that I Was following them. Sure. I'm like, okay, I'm gonna create consistently. So I gave myself a challenge of making 100 videos without stopping, obviously one a day without stopping, until I got to 100 and I did. I'm very happy I did. Now at this point, you can see from my YouTube channel, you could see how many videos I've made. It's. It's over 2,000 now. But from 0 to 100 was. Was challenging, of course, because I had never made videos and I had always felt like, you know, I'm not meant to make videos, etc. And I always also had a hard time, very hard time writing. Back then, it was easier for me to speak on video and then I would quickly write out for the people who. Who didn't have time to watch the video. Here's basically what I said. I tapped it out. I'm doing this because I was tapping it on my ph. Because looking at a blank screen on the computer to write on a document was too daunting for me. Ten years ago, it was very hard for me to write articles. So I made video and then quickly tapped that Anyway, so I did that consistently for a hundred videos. And I noticed something. I became a different person through that journey from 0 to 100. At first I felt like I had to be acting, you know, on camera to even get myself to record videos. I felt like I had to be acting. I had feel like I had to perform when I was on video. But over that course of a hundred and my. As you probably know, one of my key values is authenticity. So over the course of 100 videos, I'm like, okay, I. What does it mean to be authentic in making content? I started to explore 10 years ago what that meant. And over the hundred videos, I was practicing and exploring and opening myself to what it could mean to be really authentic in my expression. Now, whether or not my audience thinks it's authentic, it's beside the point. Did I feel that I was being authentic in expressing? To do less acting and to do more soul sharing, to do more energy, signature expression, to do more opening of myself vulnerably and honestly on camera and in writing, where I'm like, this is what I believe. This is what's true for me. This is who I am. And it changed me so much to where I realize now that the biggest benefit of consistent content creation. Well, okay, I'll say this. The biggest benefit of content creation is authentic self exploration. That's the biggest benefit. And the biggest benefit of consistent content creation is the Opportunity to keep practicing that consistent, that authentic self exploration. And then, as I say, because, and I had to, and I really encourage you, especially if you don't have much of an audience. Some of you who have an audience listen to the second benefit after this. But without much of an audience, you feel like you're talking into the void. Like if you came to content creation saying, I'm doing this because I'm gonna get clients, right? Well, in the beginning, you don't have an audience. And even your friends and family, most of them who see your stuff, read your articles, you know, watch, they're probably not even gonna like it. Now, a few of them being supportive might like it, but a lot of your friends and family aren't even your ideal clients. Some of them may be referral sources, some of them may be ideal clients. I don't know. But in the beginning, if you come to it with thinking, oh, I'm doing this so that I can get engagement and I can get clients, you're probably not going to be consistent and you're probably not, you're probably going to stop making content. But if in the beginning you can take on this mindset of I'm doing this to better understand myself, my own thoughts, and to learn how to express myself in as a more of an authentic way, even though I'm doing it publicly, and that's the point. It's like the public, I call it public journaling. You can journal privately, you can make content privately, you can send video messages to a friend. That's great, might be a great start, actually. But to do it publicly and to do it authentically allows you to say, okay, there's. Well, let me just say there's only ever going to be one of you in this, in this world, in the history of humanity. And if you don't express yourself authentically, your uniqueness will die with you. And humanity will never get to experience the full authentic expression of who you could be. And it's going to be unique. Of course, all of us share certain characteristics. You might be quite similar to your closest friends or your family members or whatever. But notice, even with your closest friends, even the people who are most similar to you, you're still quite different. And that's important, I think, as a way to express yourself online, especially more and more with AI content. AI videos are typically going to be like beautiful, polished people, you know, expressing themselves in a polished way. And it's even going to be more important for us to be as human as possible in our online content expression Again, it's great for your own growth, your own personal growth, because it takes courage, obviously, to express yourself authentically online. And the consistent content creation practice is the opportunity to become more courageous, to become of your brave, authentic self. Of course, because you have truth that you believe is important to share if at, if, if, if anything, your own story is important to share your own story, how you've helped people, how you've helped clients, what you believe about the world, what you believe, your perspective, your point of view is important. So that's the biggest benefit is courageous and I would say fire. And when you finally am able to express yourself authentically, no matter who's watching, this is the key. Because if you are afraid to express yourself publicly, then I don't know, I, I honestly don't believe that people are fully self realized until they're able to express themselves authentically, publicly. That's what I believe, that's what I've seen. Because they're still hiding, like, oh, I don't want to make sure, I don't want to say that to. I don't want people to think of me in that way or that way. Well, then you're hiding, then you're still wearing a mask. So authentic public exploration. In the beginning, the great thing, the great news is that in the beginning no one's watching anyway. In the beginning, very few people are reading anyway. So you can make a bunch of mistakes publicly in the future. You can, you can end up deleting those if you want to. But I haven't. I still keep my oldest videos, my oldest articles up because I've noticed. And if this is any consolation, no one cares about my oldest stuff. No one cares. Who has time, who has time to go and look at old things and then like call you out on it? No, I mean, of course if you're here in my audience, you're someone who wants to help other people, you want to benefit the world, you're obviously not going to show up on camera and like, you know, disparage other people and you know, like say offensive things. So what have you got to hide? Oh, you might embarrass yourself, but no one is going to be mean and go, oh, you were so embarrassing. I listen, I've embarrassed myself Hundreds of, in 2000 videos. Can you imagine? I've embarrassed myself hundreds of times. And no one in 10 years has found some embarrassing video and then promoted like say, ah, George is so embarrassing. And if they, if so, it just increases my courage, okay? It just helps me to become more Courageous. That's me. That's me. That's who I am. Love it or leave it. And guess what? Most people who are your true fans, the people most likely to work with you as a client, are going to appreciate the realness of who you are. Plus, you want to, you want clients with whom you could be really yourself, right? Rather than having to wear a mask with clients. Come on. Okay, so that's the biggest benefit. The second benefit, as I mentioned, is, you know, marketing benefit. Of course. As you learn to authentically and therefore courageously express who you are and share your energy signature, you're going to get more and more. First trickle at the beginning. It's just a trickle of a few people who start watching and start watching on a consistent basis. They might not even like it, but you'll notice that your views on your videos are like, oh, there's at least a few views each time. This is important. Again, you might feel like you're speaking into the void, but if you see that you get at least one or two views each time, that's interesting, isn't it? There are few consistent returning viewers or maybe people finding you through YouTube search or whatever. You know what, if you posting on videos, particularly if you're writing articles, people will find you. You'll get a few hits on your article on your website blog. But you are making a difference to a few people in the beginning. In the beginning, zero. And eventually a few people consistently, and eventually a few dozen people consistently. And just think about that. A few dozen people consistently being positively influenced by you. You've changed, you shifted their mind and their heart in some way. This is, this is important because those, those few regular people, some of them eventually either become clients or they prefer people to, to us clients. Okay, so there's marketing benefit for sure. Or they want to interview you on a podcast or whatever it might be. So the other. So, so hopefully now that you've heard the benefits, you're feeling feeling a bit motivated to show up again consistently, right? To know the importance of the opportunity every time is going to keep going by day after day, after days can go by. And you will have lost an opportunity again and again and again. Do not. If you're gonna have FOMO at all, if you're gonna have fear of missing out at all, I hope this is the FOMO that you have now. I don't like fear, but I hope that you will be. You will fear of missing out on the opportunity to practice yet another day. An opportunity to practice expressing your authentic self. And, and being, trying to be of service to others, service to other opportunities. Every single day, every day you have an opportunity to make a difference for those few people who are watching those few reading, which if you make a real difference for them, will then share about you. And then it'll be a few dozen people and a few hundred people and Right. So, so I hope that the benefits will motivate you again. And second thing, I'll say that help you to get back into consistency, especially when life is tumultuous. Okay, so let me ask you this question. When life is chaotic and you've got, oh my gosh, family caretaking, caretaking of yourself, your work obligations are suddenly really intense, do you stop brushing your teeth? Do you stop taking showers? Maybe some of you stop taking showers, I don't know. But do you stop feeding yourself? While feeding yourself, there's a real motivation because you feel hunger, et cetera, right? I want you to feel that hunger, by the way. I want you to feel that hunger and that urgency to create because yet another day has gone by and you haven't yet practiced. Okay? Now, brushing your teeth, etc. Brushing your teeth is, I think, a good example because you don't like, if you don't brush your teeth today, tomorrow your teeth aren't going to fall out. You know, you're probably not going to have toothaches yet, but probably in a few weeks you'll have toothaches if you stop brushing your teeth, right? I don't know, maybe days or weeks, I don't know. So the problem with creating content is you won't have toothaches if you don't do it. I am hoping you have heartaches to realize that the days are going by. You're not, you're, you're not practicing. Let me bring some more light into the room here. So I hope you will take whatever habit you're currently doing and connect it to your content creation habit to say, I brushed my teeth today, therefore, did I create content today? And so, George, but content, doesn't that require you to sit down for two hours and to craft something beautiful? Now this is where, this is what's stopping you. If you think, oh, I don't have two hours, I don't have an hour, I don't have half an hour to create content today, or I don't have the creativity today, I don't have the energy, the creativity today to do it. This is what's stopping you. You thought that you have to have time and creativity to make content this is where you're wrong, if I may be so blunt to say, this is where you are mistaken. Shall I say, this is where you are blocking yourself unnecessarily. I want you to create content like you're sending a quick message to a friend. That's what I hope. I want you to take on this perspective. Imagine you have a friend who is hurting. Imagine you have a friend who's going through a tough time. Imagine you have a friend who just needs a little bit of uplift, a little bit of inspiration from you, just a little bit of connection, just to say hi, right? Your audience is that friend. No? Think about this. Your ideal reader, your ideal viewer, your ideal client is literally somebody who benefits from from your energy, from your wisdom, from your stories, from your presence. So I hope going forward you will think of creating content consistently with a light touch. To say it's like I would record a quick video message for a friend to say, hey, just want to share with you this Just want to say hi and want to share with you this idea that I had, this story about something that happened to me that might encourage you sharing that. So imagine your friend is basically saying, I'm going through a hard time. I just want you to send me a message every day. Share with me something interesting, something from your life, a story, something from a tip, something you've read recently that you thought was interesting. You want to share the summary with me? Share with me something you overcame in your life. Share with me some maybe you've helped a client. Maybe you've helped someone else and you got some some insight from that that you'd like to share with me. Just share something with me so that I feel like someone is caring, someone cares. Your ideal client is literally that person who, with whom your tips, your stories, your presence is meaningful, is helpful, and so they don't need you to be polished and to sit down for two hours and craft the perfect article or to make the perfect video. They're like that friend who wants you to show up authentically. And so even if you're really busy and okay, let's say you have work obligations and you're at the airport and you've got, oh, the flight's about to take off. I've made videos like this too. Hey everyone, flight's about to take off. I want to share a quick tip or share a quick story that came to mind or whatever. And you could be thinking about that story or that tip as you're waiting in the TSA line to say, okay, I haven't made my video today yet. I'll make my video when I'm waiting for the flight. Okay, I've made several videos like that, right? Or you are you. You've had a tough day, you've had a long day and you're about to go to bed. Quick message for your friend in bed. I've made several videos, you know, before bed. I've written several articles, many articles before bed. It's a quick thing. Just want to say this. It's got to be that light. And then from that lightness of content can come stage two, content. And then stage three. If you don't know what I'm talking about, please look up the three stages of content creation. I've written an article about that. I've written articles about that. I've written. I've made YouTube videos about that. Three stages of content creation. The consistent content is stage one. It has to be that light. It has to be that easy. It can be done in just a few minutes. You could take more time if you want to. If you have time and space, if you feel inspired, take more time. Fine. But even if it's you've got three minutes, you make a one minute video. So I hope that this helps you to break open your your barriers again of creating consistently. Because every day is going by and you are losing that opportunity yet again to explore yourself and to serve somebody else. I hope this is helpful. I look forward to seeing in your comments below what of this has resonated with you. Thank you so much. Be well.
