My first book is here 💛 Plus, a few thoughts about my process

George Kao released his first book by compiling and editing his best articles from the past few years instead of writing from scratch. He advocates creating consistently and gradually assembling work rather than waiting for a perfect moment, calling it joyful productivity.

My book is being published today. This is my first book, and it's been a long time coming. If you would have asked me five years ago, 10 years ago, George, when are you gonna write your book? I would have said, well, I'm not gonna write it until I have sort of my life's work all clarified, dialed in. And I have, you know, 500 case studies about the thing that I'm teaching, and it's got to be really, really, really amazing. Well, than, thankfully, I overcame that perfectionistic tendency. And I've realized after creating a lot of content, as you have maybe seen me do, that people are being helped by the content. And there's this whole marketplace called Amazon that hasn't had the benefit of seeing this content, of getting my content. And so I thought, let me just go ahead and publish the best of my writings for the past couple of years on a particular topic. And so that's what I did. I copy and pasted my best articles from the past couple of years. I put them in an order that seems to make sense. I had a team of friends and colleagues and clients help me to look at it and edit it, etc. In the future, I'll talk more about my book writing and publishing process, but I really believe that you can do it as well if you feel that you have something to say that is of benefit to others and just take it step by step. I didn't go through the grueling process of sitting down, shutting myself off from the world for three months or one month or six months, however long people think you should do it. And like, you know, write for nine hours a day and get my book hammered out, cranked out. That felt like a contrived and painful process to me. As you might know from my content, I like to do what I call joyful productivity. Find ways to create value and usefulness in the world from a place of heart and from a place of enjoyment. And so when people see me put my book together, they say, george, how do you. How are you able to do this so quickly? I said, I haven't been doing it right now. I've been doing it over the past while. And so this is why I teach and I preach and I walk. The path of authentic content marketing is because if you just create content day after day or week after week, find a rhythm that works for you, you will eventually have enough for a book, right? And that's it. And then just put it together, edit it, and then take your time, gradually edit it and publish it. So. So that others can have the benefit especially the Amazon, the biggest marketplace of ideas in the world. Amazon.com can have the benefit of your ideas as well to uplift humanity and to benefit others and to also attract the right people to you. So I want to thank you for being part of my audience for really supporting me in creating this content, sharing it with you so that now I can have a book. I would be honored if you decide to buy the book especially today on launch day or this week or anytime you're watching this. Of course buying the book helps to vote up the ideas in the book and I just want to thank you that's all. So until the next video maybe you'll have gotten the book or read it. I'm always open to your questions especially about the book of course the ideas in the book. I love to make videos answering readers questions who have read some parts of the book. Be well and thank you.
