Should You Start A New YouTube Channel, Or Pivot The One You Have?

George Kao advises Megan that YouTube's algorithm favors launching a new channel over pivoting an existing one, even with modest subscribers. Keep both under one Gmail account and post a redirect video on the old channel. For websites, buy a new domain instead of pivoting the old site, which confuses Google's rankings.

that the next time I teach it is going to be different. Okay, and it's actually pretty important. I kind of wish I need, I need to correct it soon. But, um, I, I said just stay with one channel and just teach whatever, and YouTube's algorithm will find your audience for the thing. I now am revising that. I now, seems to me, it seems to me that the algorithm is even more of this case. The more channels, the better. I think it's always been this case, by the way. I just was refusing to see it. I was in resistance until now. The more channels, the better. Now, I'm not saying everyone should go out and start 3 channels, but what I am saying is don't try to repair an old channel. Let it go. I mean, sorry, don't try to pivot. Don't pivot any channel that you have, especially if you've already grown an audience there, a little bit of an audience there, even if it's a few dozen subscribers, a few hundred subscribers. You should, if you're gonna pivot to another topic, start a new channel. Of course, it's free on YouTube to start as many channels as you want. Start a new channel. You can keep it under the same Gmail account. Just start a new, you know, you, under the same Gmail account, you can have as many channels as you want. Start a new channel and you can make a video for the old channel saying, hey everybody, this is where I am now, and point people to the new channel. That's better than continue trying to do something on your new old channel. And then in terms of website, same advice, more websites the better. Don't pivot your old website if it's been there for at least, especially if it's been there for a couple of years and it's already got gathered some traffic over the years, it's going to confuse Google and the algorithms to say, now you're what? Now you're doing what? So it's better to start a new website and have it. And these days it's easy to create websites, right? Whether you use AI or not, use AI, it's super easy.. But even if you don't use AI, it's like, well, just, I'll start a new, I'll get a new domain, start a new, you know, domains cost money. Yes. But Megan, it sounds like you probably should start it. If I were your business manager, I'd say, all right, Megan, start a new site. Now you might, you might take, if you don't want to pay the money for the old site's hosting, you can stop that. Like if you're just a, I don't see myself And you could just redirect the old domain name. You'll keep the domain name. That's a good idea to the new place. That's okay. But
