Should your monthly content revolve around your free webinar topic? (+ the Doorways method)

George Kao recommends monthly free webinars as your marketing hub, with social media content aligned to those topics. Use the Doorways method to map client entry points to webinar ideas, then turn high-performing webinars into offers. Post 2-3 times weekly with content that energizes you.

All right, so great question here about if you are going to be doing regular free webinars, which I have been recommending for quite some time to every solopreneur, um, my clients for sure. I kind of give them pressure to do it, but, um, every solopreneur I recommend doing one free webinar a month, or at least per quarter, um, if you're just gently wading into it. But think about it, even if you do one web free webinar a month, that's only 12 In a year, in an entire year, only 12 experimentations. If you do one every quarter, that's only 4 experimentations a year where you are in front of your audience in the most impactful way possible other than in person, right? Like if you can be in person doing group things, wonderful, great, please do them. There is a rise of local events, especially in this era where everyone's so online. But obviously webinars are much more convenient, um, you know, and therefore also the fact that it's online means people can attend from everywhere in the world, and you're going to be having an easier time getting people there than local events. Okay, so again, the most impactful thing you can do in your marketing is to be in front of people with your authentic presence and to particularly to be in front of a group of people. Because when you're in front of a group, you're instantly more credible than when you're one-to-one with somebody. And one-to-one obviously is also powerful, of course. But when you're in front of a group, you're instantly more credible without you even opening your mouth. People see that there's more than one person in the room and essentially, essentially it's like you are doing an exploratory call with multiple people at once. It's a better use of your time. Okay, so I have a blog post I recommend that you look up called FTAPR webinars. Uh, FTAPR, I'll tell you what that stands for. FTAPR stands for free to attend, free to attend, paid recording. Ran out of fingers here. Free to attend, paid recording. FTAPR. FTAPR webinars. I have a blog post that goes through all this. Um, so you might— okay, so I recommend that you do one a month if you can. Start with one a quarter, move up to one every other month, and then end up doing one a month if you possibly can. When I was very actively building my business, I was trying to do a webinar a week, but I was doing it for different audiences. You know, I would maybe do one a month for my audience and then three a month for different audiences, different partner audiences, whatever, who, whoever's willing to say yes. To my, to my webinar, okay, that, that month. Okay, so the question is, okay, let's say I'm doing a webinar a month or webinar 6, 6, 6 a year or whatever. Should the topics of my content be aligned with the webinar of that month? So let's say I'm doing a webinar in 3 weeks from now, okay? The content that I post on social media, LinkedIn posts, you know, Instagram carousels or whatever that I post in the next 3 weeks, should they be aligned to the topic of the webinar? I think in a fully optimized world, okay, which we don't live fully optimized lives. The answer is yes. But realistically speaking, I also think about content as experimentations and explorations. And if it's to be authentic, if it's to be also fun, right? Like if, if Hopefully our business is as fun to run as we can. I like to say whatever content I wanna post, I want it to be something that is energizing to me in this moment. So, or this week or whatever. And so sometimes you're genuinely energized by whatever topic you're gonna be doing webinar in 3 or 4 weeks. And so that's great. Yes, because you are getting people to think about that topic again and again and again, obviously when you promote the webinar, they're thinking about the topic, they associate you with that topic, they're more likely to sign up and show up. So I think in a fully optimized world, yes. So therefore it ends up being you have like 12 content/webinar topics a year, right? And then maybe the next year you could do another 12 or repeat some of the ones you did the previous year that did really, really well. But like I said, I would rather you be consistent with all these things then to be like, well, oh, I don't feel like posting about that. So, uh, you know, no, just, you know, if you're gonna, you know, once, once a month webinar and at least once a week content, I would say 2 to 3 times a week with content is better, um, is what I would prefer, except for the weeks that you're taking off. Of course, um, I take regular time off too. Like once a month I take a week off. These days I have such a system going that even those during my weeks off, I still post content 'cause I've scheduled it. But for, you know, for the past couple years I didn't have, my system wasn't quite dialed in yet. Nowadays I use AI quite a bit, so that helps me to be more systematized. But when I didn't have AI, I would take a break once a month from posting content that week, one week per month. That would be my content sabbatical anyway. So think about not just your content and your free webinars. Oh, I mentioned free to attend paid recording. You can read that blog post for what do I mean by paid recording. Read, read that blog post. But right now I just want content, free webinar, and don't forget offers. Okay? So these 3 can form your entire marketing system, and it's very effective. It's very efficient marketing system. You're posting content on a regular basis in whichever platforms you get the most engagement, or rather avoiding the platforms you get the least engagement. Okay, content, you know, ideally 2 to 3 times a week, maybe more if you can do more. Okay, and the content is things that energize you because you want to keep something that you do so frequently it's gotta energize you, otherwise it's not sustainable. So if, if, if at all, like content's gotta be the most fun thing that you do. Okay. It's gotta be energizing. It's gotta be something. It's like, I, I either energizing or cathartic for you, or like genuinely exploratory, like something that you're curious about. And therefore by, by writing about it or speaking about it, it helps you to fulfill that curiosity or it helps you to give you motivation to do that research. Or gives you motivation to dive into some experience you had and, and think about it, or some experience with a client and, and talk about it, right? So something that energizes you, something that's a, something that helps you feel like, yeah, that was worth my time. If you're doing it 2 to 3 times a week, you, you better hopefully do that. All right. And then the content, the webinar once a month should be on a topic that you believe your audience will find interesting. I have a concept that I call doorways. I have a blog post on doorways, so you can just go to my website and search doorways and hopefully find that blog post called Client Doorways. The idea is basically clients— like, your, uh, your business is like this beautiful castle surrounded by gorgeous gardens of different types all around, okay? And you know, for, for miles or whatever. And then your clients come to your castle, your business, which has many rooms, many offers, event potentially. They come to your castle from different directions, different doorways, whatever doorways are. And doorways are basically their issues, their goals, their interests, what they have heard about you. And so therefore with free webinar topics, you should choose— you have many doorways. The, the thing that you do, let's say you do life coaching, um, even life coaching has so many doorways. What would life coaching about? What? Tons of issues. Relationship issues, spiritual issues, health, you know, money, work issues, family issue, whatever, right? So many doorways, right? Whatever you're willing to have your clients walk through and talk about. Okay, so pick first, brainstorm lots of doorways, and then those doorways are also content ideas. You'll notice when your content is also a constant focus group with the world, asking the question, what do you want me to do in the world that you find valuable? Content, free content out there is a constant focus group. It's constant experimentation. So you should experiment with as many doorways as you can in your content. Notice which ones tend to get more traction. Bring those most traction doorways into your free webinar topics. And then if you notice a free webinar has more signups than other webinars that you've done, that should be turned into an offer, maybe, right? And the— on the free webinar, you can, you can spend the last 5 or 10 minutes of the hour, uh, talking about the offer that is perfectly aligned with whatever free webinar topic that you're talking about. I always say, don't niche, you don't have to niche yourself, but please niche every offer that you do. And you can have as many offers as you want. Your website can have, you know, 50 links to 50 different doorways, different offers, same, same life coaching, for example, but said in 12 different doorways. 12 different pages, right? 12 different, different pages. And search engines will find those specific pages for people who are searching for those specific things. So anyway, I hope this is helpful and looking forward to seeing what you're taking away from this and any questions.
