Strengthen flat feet and prevent ankle collapse by scrunching a towel with your toes. This builds the intrinsic foot muscles into a grip that reinforces your arch, reduces stress on knees and hips, and improves stability during squats and lunges.

If you have a collapsing foot like this, or ankle, when you squat or do lunges, this is going to help you out. Maybe if you're told you have flat feet, or you need to wear corrective soles or insoles, don't do that. Do this next exercise. Take a towel, put it on the ground. Take the foot you want to work, and you're going to keep it straight, knee straight over your toe, and scrunch just like this, grabbing the towel. Once you get to the end of the towel, Do it again. And what we're trying to do is strengthen your foot so that it acts like a monkey paw. As you're strengthening, you're spreading those toes and gripping. That will take this collapsing ankle that you just saw to a strong, powerful arch with strength and taking pressure off of the knee joint and the hip joint.
