4 Marks: How The Holy Spirit Transforms Your Life

In this sermon, Pastor Harry L. Pitts Jr. of 514 Grace Church explains four biblical "marks" that demonstrate the Holy Spirit’s indwelling presence in a believer’s life. He argues that the Spirit is not a feeling or emotional experience but a transformative power that produces (1) conviction that leads to repentance rather than condemnation, (2) faith that moves a person into action, (3) divine purpose revealed through obedient promptings, and (4) supernatural peace that endures under pressure. Throughout, he cites Scripture (John 16, Romans 8, 1 Corinthians 12, James 2, Acts 8, Romans 15, Galatians 5) to support each mark, contrasts worldly misconceptions with biblical truth, and invites listeners to actively yield to the Spirit through prayer, study, and obedience. The message concludes with a call to respond, share, and subscribe, emphasizing that revival begins when the Spirit lives within each believer.

There's something powerful that happens when the Holy Spirit truly takes residence inside a believer. You don't just— The Holy Spirit isn't a feeling. He's fire. And when he moves, fear has to flee. You respond differently. And today I want to talk to you about something every believer needs to understand deeply: the 4 marks that prove the Holy Spirit truly lives in you. Because hear me, Being filled with the Spirit isn't about emotional moments or goosebumps or church services. It's about transformation. It's about evidence. It's about knowing, not just hoping, that the Spirit of God is alive and active inside of you. Jesus said in John chapter 16, verse 7, nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. That helper is the Holy Spirit. He's not energy. He's not a feeling. He's the very presence of God living in you, walking with you, and transforming you from the inside out. Today, let's learn how to recognize when he's truly in control. Look Look and listen to me closely. The first mark that the Holy Spirit lives in you is that he brings conviction, not condemnation. Now, I want you to listen carefully because the world confuses guilt with conviction. You know that's right because I'm sure it's probably happened to many of you. Guilt says, you messed up, you're worthless. Conviction says, you messed up, but here's Your way out. Romans chapter eight, verse one declares: There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. Condemnation traps you in shame. Conviction calls you to change. Only the Holy Spirit can draw you into repentance without crushing you under guilt. The Bible says in John sixteen. Verse eight, and when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment. That word convict in the Greek is the word elenchō. You spell it E L E N C H O elenchō. It means to expose with the intention to heal. That's the heart of the Spirit. He doesn't expose to embarrass you. He exposes to empower you. If you can still feel his conviction, that's proof the Holy Spirit is alive in you. He hasn't left you. He's working on both you and I both. And that's why repentance is not punishment. It's partnership. When you repent, you're not running from God. You're running with the Spirit toward the image of Christ. Say this out loud with me: The Holy Spirit convicts me to correct me, not condemn me. The second mark that the Holy Spirit lives in you is that he ignites faith that moves you. 1 Corinthians 12:3 says, and I need to I need you to lean into this. No one can say Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. Faith isn't natural; it's supernatural. The Holy Spirit awakens faith in you and gives you the courage to move when others freeze. Yes, he does. Romans chapter three, verse twenty-seven calls it the law of faith. Faith isn't luck. Faith operates by divine law. Here's what that means: you believe in your heart, so you speak with your mouth, and God brings it to pass. When the Holy Spirit lives in you, he doesn't let you stay stuck. He pushes you to act on the word you claim to believe. James 2:26 says, faith without works is dead. So the Spirit doesn't just make you feel faith; He makes you move in faith. That's what separates talkers from walkers. Peter didn't just believe Jesus could hold him on the water; he stepped out. The woman with the issue of blood didn't just hope to be She pressed through. The Holy Spirit empowers action. He transforms hesitation into bold obedience. Yes, he does. That's why you'll notice—you'll notice something when the Holy Spirit is leading you: fear becomes background noise. You might still feel it, but you move anyway. Say this with me. The Holy Spirit activates faith in me that moves mountains. The Holy Spirit activates faith in me that moves mountains. The 3rd mark that the Holy Spirit lives in you is that he leads you into purpose. Acts chapter 8 tells the story of Philip and, and this Ethiopian eunuch. Philip. Man, this is a blessing because the angel of the Lord told Philip to go south to a desert road. And then in verse 29, it says the Spirit said to Philip, go near and overtake this chariot. Philip obeyed, and that obedience opened the door for one man to hear the gospel and for an entire nation to be impacted. Through that one act. When the Spirit lives in you, He'll nudge you. He'll whisper, go talk to that person, pray for that coworker, sow that seed. And when you follow His promptings, miracles follow your obedience. The Spirit doesn't always explain. Sometimes He just instructs, and that's when your obedience reveals your maturity. If you only move when you understand, you're walking by logic. But when you move simply because He said so, you're walking by the Spirit. Hear me, the Holy Spirit will never lead you away from purpose. He'll always lead you toward it. Say this with me, Holy Spirit, lead me where my faith can grow and my purpose can be revealed. The 4th mark that the Holy Spirit lives in you is that he produces peace in pressure. Romans 15:13 says, now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Anyone can have peace when life is calm, But real evidence that the Spirit lives in you is when peace becomes your anchor while everything else is shaking. Peace is not the absence of problems. Peace is the presence of power. The Holy Spirit gives you supernatural calm, the kind that confuses your enemy and quiets your anxiety. The word says, the world says, break down. The Spirit says, be still. That's why Galatians 5:22 calls peace one of the fruits of the Spirit. It's not manufactured. It's not produced. When your spirit field is filled with the Word of God, and when your spirit field storms Reveal your stability. You might bend, but you won't break. Say this out loud: The Holy Spirit keeps me steady under pressure. Now I need you to do this. I need you to lean in, lean in, trust God, and I want you to look, look into the television. I'm going to look into this camera right now, and there's a word that God wants to give you. Trust the Holy Spirit. There are times that you may be confused, but the Spirit of God, he is a counselor. He will give you peace in the midst of your trials. Trust him. Feed on the Word of God because the Word of God gives clarity. It gives revelation. And the Holy Spirit is our Comforter. He is our Paraclete, the one that walks beside us. The Spirit of God knows the mind of God. And some things you may not understand, but follow the leading of the Spirit. Follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit because he'll never lead you wrong. He'll always lead you to the Word of God. And lead you to the presence of God. Take the time to pray and study and ask the Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit, give me understanding where I lack understanding. Give me wisdom where I lack wisdom. I trust your leading and your guidance, and I thank you as I yield to you. Cause my life to be transformed, Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen. So here's what we've learned today. The Holy Spirit isn't proven by outward noise. He's proven by inward transformation. He convicts you to grow. He stirs faith to move. He leads you into purpose, and he fills you with the peace of God when life feels chaotic. That's the evidence that he lives inside of you. Now, if this message has touched your heart, I want you to take a moment and say this with me. Holy Spirit, I yield to you. Live through me, lead me, transform me, and let my life reveal your presence. If this word blessed you, like this video, And subscribe to our YouTube page at 514 Grace Church and share the video.
