Jesus tells the crowd that whoever is without sin should cast the first stone at a woman caught in adultery. The speaker argues we focus on punishment instead of mercy and justice, condemning sinners without giving them a chance to change.
Chapters
8, verse 7. They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said— this is the woman caught in adultery— but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone. You're at the point of a part of the law that's not important. That's right. The weightier things, the more important part of the mercy, the justice, you're not doing. I'm saying she was caught in sin. Yes. But you hypocrites, you grab a stone. The one without sin, let him cast the first stone. You want to kill this person who's probably sorry for their wrong and whatnot. You don't even give them a chance to repent. You don't give them a chance to say, I'm sorry, God. You want to destroy them now.
