Jesus fed 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish, but the crowd returned the next day not because they believed in him, only because they wanted more food. The speaker warns that many people today follow Jesus for the same reason: material provision instead of genuine faith.
Chapters
The word of God can feed thousands who are hungry. The meal. Now follow me to John chapter 6. The day before this chapter opens, Jesus fed 5,000 men plus women and children with 5 loaves and 2 fish. They ate until they were full. Are you listening to me, church? They picked up 12 baskets of leftovers. And the next morning when Jesus crosses the lake, that same crowd comes looking for him. Are you listening to me? Those who are watching us on the West Coast and the East Coast and those that are watching us in Canada and those that are watching us in South Africa and Pakistan and, and Mogadishu, those that are watching us globally, listen to me. Those that are following us, those that are subscribing, listen to me. Uh-huh. And Jesus knows why they are there. Verse 26, ye seek me not because you saw the miracles, but because you did eat of loaves and were filled. That is one of the hardest sentences to me in the Gospels for someone to say. He is telling a crowd of 5,000 people that they are following him For the wrong reason. They're not following him because they recognize who he is. Ah. They are following him because he fed their stomachs yesterday and they want him to feed their stomachs again today.
