Harry Pitts explains Paul's phrase "new creation" using the Greek words kain kathesis, which mean something formed from nothing, not improved. Christians aren't better versions of themselves with upgraded habits. They're entirely new beings birthed by Christ's resurrection life, with the old identity discarded completely.
When Paul uses the phrase new creation, he chooses the Greek words kain kathesis, which do not describe something renovated, repaired, or improved. They describe something formed from nothing, something that did not exist prior to Christ's intervention. You are not a better version of your past. Hear me. If you're watching me online, I need you to hear me clearly. You're not a better version of your past, nor are you the old you with better habits. You are not insecurity with better coping skills or trauma with better language. According to God, you are something entirely birthed by the resurrection life itself.
