He repeatedly declared this in Matthew 11:15, he who has ears to hear, let him hear. Not everyone who hears sound is actually hearing truth. Not everyone who listens receives revelation. This is why Jesus in John 8:43 asks his critics, why do you not understand my speech? Because you're not able to listen to my word. Their ears function, they function, but their spirits were deaf. They were dull of hearing. Their spirits were dull of hearing the word of God. A famine of hearing is a judgment of deafness. It is when sermons are preached but hearts remain untouched and unchanged. It is when truth is proclaimed, but people prefer lies. It is when the bread of life is offered, but appetites are dulled by the sugar of this world system.
