God doesn't promote based on talent but on how much spiritual weight you can carry without losing humility or obedience. Trials test your faith and build steadfastness, moving you toward maturity and greater capacity. James 1:2-4 frames suffering as purposeful preparation, not something to escape.

God is not asking how gifted are you. He is asking how much weight can you carry without losing your heart, your humility, or your obedience to me? James chapter one verses two through four in the English Standard Version says this: As God is taking you through the ebbs and flows of life, God says this. Count it all joy. Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be lacking nothing. James does not minimize— he does not minimize pain, but he reframes its purpose. Notice the flow of the text. James says trials are given to test your faith. Testing produces steadfastness. Steadfastness must be allowed to finish its work. The result of all of this is maturity and completeness. Doesn't stop there. Maturity, completeness, and capacity.
