In this short devotional address, the speaker urges listeners to transform their prayers by adding the word “nevertheless,” positioning surrender to God’s will as the gateway to true victory. He frames life’s trials as intentional displays of God’s power, contrasting human short‑sighted desires for comfort and quick results with God’s eternal perspective that builds character. The speaker emphasizes that surrender is not defeat but a purposeful yielding, illustrated with a personal anecdote about his grandfather’s wisdom: fast blessings are fleeting, while God’s will seeks lasting, eternal reward.

Trials are designed to show you God's power. Listen to this. Today, and those that are watching me, somebody, uh, here in this room, in this space we call sanctuary, needs to put a nevertheless in their mouths and in their prayers. You've been praying, God, remove this cup, for years. But you've never added the nevertheless, and that's why you've been stuck. Surrender is not defeat. Surrender is— surrender is the doorway to victory. Surrender to God and say, Father, nevertheless. Why? Because thy will is better than my will. My will is shortsighted. His will is eternal. Say that with me. His will is eternal. Ah, my will looks at today. His will wants what's best for me. My will wants comfort. His will wants my character. My will wants the easy road, the fast track. I can remember my grandfather saying, son, listen to me. If it comes fast, it goes or it leaves fast because his will wants the eternal reward for me.
