Kate McKibbin predicts how online business changes in 2023: a shaky economy will reshape offers and payment structures, social platforms will shift dramatically, and creators will balance short-form viral content against long-lasting SEO content. Automated funnels become critical for stability.
Go and have a look at your promise, your delivery and think about like, are there any tweaks that can be made to make sure that this outcome is more appropriate given the current climate?

But better, easier and with a ton more profit too. Are you ready? Let's do it.
Hello. Hello everybody. It is Kate here from HelloFunnels and this is a Doing It Online podcast. Now today I am going to be getting out or dusting off my virtual crystal ball and, and doing something which I will probably regret 12 months from now and that is making some predictions around some of the big moves. And so there's more moves that are going to happen in our industry and that is the online world, the world of online programs, online courses and of course online marketing, which is what we love to talk about on this podcast. Now, of course, when I say I probably regret doing this prediction, it's because if the last few years has taught us anything, it's that the world is free, freaking unpredictable. But there are definitely some bigger picture trends, some more overarching themes and things which are kind of undeniable and I really wanted to chat about those and also about the things that you can start doing, we can all start doing now putting into place around these different topics and areas to make sure that 2023 is your best year ever. So let's dive right, right on in. Alrighty, let's get started guys. And let's start by ripping off the band aid and talking about the big pink elephant in the room and that is the economy and the fact that as much as we would love it to, it's not looking like it's going to be getting significantly better anytime soon. It looks like we've definitely still got a bit of an uncertain and rough patch to get through. How long and how rough that is yet to be seen. But with that in mind, there is, this is going to definitely have impacts on the way we do business, the way we put our offers together. If you couple that with, if you happen to have an audience that is US based or that is at all affected by what's happening in the US Obviously the ramp up, even though it's still no, you're over a year away or is it two years away to next US election now that nominees have all been announced and all that kind of stuff. Again, I'm not an expert in this field, but I just know as it gets closer and closer and even with a long run period, it starts to get noisier and people start to get louder with big opinions and it brings up a lot of controversy and stress and uncertainty. In these times when things are uncertain, when people are feeling a bit of fear around what's going to happen next, what's going to happen to them financially and their stability is sort of on the rocks a little bit. As a business owner, we always want to make sure that we are doing what we can to help to alleviate those fears. Always first step is always with that is make sure that your offer is amazing as it can be and does what it says that it does. And that if you have an offer that is go and have a look at your promise, your delivery and think about, like, are there any tweaks that can be made to make sure that this outcome is more appropriate given the current climate that is going to be more effective, that is going to be more supportive in this time. So you always go back of house first. If you have an amazing program, an amazing product and it's getting people great results, then you're always going to be able to make sales. Then it's time to come to the front and have a look at how you structure your offer, how you structure the support. Are people going to have more time or less? Are they going to feel like they need more hand holding or they feel like they're going to be able to just get in and binge it in short bursts? Do you need to look at your payment plans, your guarantees, all that stuff about thinking about how can you help people who are feeling uncertain to feel more certain when making the decisions? It's not about tricking them or anything like that. Obviously you're coming to them with an offer that is great, that's going to help them, but there's always going to be a little bit of extra resistance and uncertainty because people want to feel safe because everything around them is feeling so unsafe. So if you can in all good integrity, add some things in which are going to help with that safety that is going to help your business to keep on keeping on over this time. Okay, the next elephant in the room is Elon Musk and his takeover of Twitter. And when I'm recording this, that whole scenario is obviously changing day by day. So who knows what's going to happen by the time this, this episode actually hits the. Hits the air but you know, it's definitely something to be watching. And that whole social media space, because Facebook is also in a big downturn. They've just laid a lot of people off. People are moving away from a lot of platforms for various reasons, whether they are moral, political, the fact that the tracking is getting harder and harder and less accurate and so it's becoming more expensive. All of these things do accumulate and do create a buildup. And in that buildup there is opportunity. There is something that, whether it's for a new platform to come in or an existing one to step up, someone to shake things up and do something differently. I'm not going to say I predict what will happen in this space, but I feel like we're coming to a bit of a boiling point and it's definitely a watch this space because something has to change. Something's either going to crumble and break and then a new thing rise from the ashes or there's going to be a mass migration elsewhere. So this is definitely going to be a year where we have to be open to trying new platforms, new things. If the old things are starting to no longer work, like we have to be okay with letting go of something that's maybe worked for years and years and years in and keep an eye on what is the, what are those trends now? I'm never a person to recommend that you just jump on the shiny new thing. I'm just saying be aware, keep your eyes open. Because I really wouldn't be surprised if by the end of 2023 the social media ads landscape looks quite different to what it looks like right now. The other thing that I want to talk about is the difference between and how different businesses and different strategies are moving between either in masses towards short term temporary content. And by that I mean your TikTok, your Facebook, your Instagram, and also what seems to be a big exodus actually away from that to your more evergreen, long lasting, searchable, seoable, last for years types of content like you get on YouTube with SEO'd blog posts and content with Pinterest even a lot of and I can kind of see both sides of the fence. I can see some people saying, okay, short term content, TikTok, it's the new cool kid on the block. It's where you can get a lot of cut through and quickly if you do it right and figure out how to work the algorithm and whatever it is that algorithm is wanting right now. But the flip side of that is hugely time intensive as it all that stuff you're creating it lasts for a day or two at best and then it's gone. And so it is a never ending machine and a lot of people are tiring of it. So unless they have a big team and a lot of this can be outsourced and when that happens, we, you feel it, it loses its authenticity and whatever. Another story for another day. But you know, you have a lot of people like the shine is kind of coming off these quick fix content platforms and they're moving to things which have more longevity, which are better investment because they're going to keep paying again and again, keep being something that people can find and can discover you and can use as a valuable resource for years to come. Now obviously dream scenario is we'd probably be amazing at both, but for most of us, when the resources, the time that you have to be able to invest in these different platforms are limited, I can see why a lot of people are making the decision to move back to the good old sort of long form, searchable kind of content. I said, whether that's YouTube, Pinterest, blog posts, that kind of thing, podcasts that are then SEO'd. Because it's more of a make it once and have it pay again again. Longer, slower strategy definitely, but one that is something that's going to build over time and give you that more reliable outcome, which is something that I'm always a fan of. Final thing that I want to talk about that I think is going to be a, a big trend, I hope is going to be a big trend for 2023 is funnels. And of course I'm always going to talk about funnels and say they're amazing. But I think whenever there are these times of uncertainty, one thing that is always true in business is that we need to have the space to get creative, to pivot, to be able to step up and deliver at a higher level if we need to be able to step up and create more content if we need to, or whatever it is, and all that stuff. To be able to be agile and to be coming in and making big moves, it requires space, it requires resources, it requires having that sort of baseline covered in the first place. Even if you weren't coming in and doing something new and big, you still knew you, you were covered. And that's where funnels, I think really are going to shine even more next year. As people are realizing that launches are getting crazy, they're getting less and less reliable. There's a lot of as the world gets noisier, as things get more controversial, you want to have that baseline covered. You want to have as much as possible, some inbuilt stability in your business, even when other things are out of your control. And like I said, it gives you that mental space, it gives you that feeling of security. It allows you to show up and do your best work. And as if you need to be able to go, hey, I can see this trend coming, or I can see, oh my gosh, Facebook ads are gone. We have to change. You have, because you have this in the background. It's going. And you're not having to go and create everything new. You're just maybe having to go and spend a bit of time updating this or like, or jumping in and helping your community more through a rough patch. You can do that because you have the space and the time. So more than ever, I think as things get crazier, as things get more uncertain, the thing that we all want more is certainty and reliability. And that is what funnels do. That's why I love funnels. That's why I've been teaching funnels for fun the last few years to hundreds, if not thousands. I probably need to count amazing business owners. And hopefully 2023 is the year that you make funnels, your year. And it allows you to have that extra layer of security, of reliability so that you can show up and do your best work. Because that's what I want for everybody next year. So those are my predictions, guys for 2023. I would love to know if you've got any of your own. Hit us up over at hello Funnels on Instagram. Send us a dm.
