#229 - Is this why evergreen isn't working for you?
7 Dec 2025 · 0 min
Kate McKibbin says evergreen funnels fail because they need constant optimization, traffic, and expertise most creators don't have. Instead, stack multiple imperfect funnels: an email follow-up here, a simple funnel there, each converting at 0.5 to 1%, compounding toward 3% total.

It's converting closer to that 1% or more, which means that by stacking a couple of them on top of each other, you are instantly looking at closer to a 3% or more conversion rate, which is way above most industry standards. And you don't need to be a marketing expert to do it. Hey, hey guys, it is Kate here from hello funnels, and welcome back to the Doing it online podcast. Now, today's episode is for those of you who are, who've already nerded up, who stood up, who've done the hard and scary thing. You've created a funnel and maybe it didn't go as well as you had hoped. Maybe it wasn't meeting all of those passive income dreams. You set it up, you held your breath, you started promoting your lead magnets, maybe inside running ads, and the sales came through at a frustrating trickle. And you may have then from that, maybe you test a few things, maybe you spend some time playing with different ads. And your end conclusion was, you know what? This funnel doesn't work. And you know what? All funnels don't work or they don't work for you. And so you either decided to put it on the back burner, come back and fix it later, or shut it down and just went back to what was at least kind of working, which was spending all your time, energy obsessing over launches. Does that sound right? If it does, this episode is for you because there is a new way of creating funnels and I'm going to tell you all about it inside. So let's go.
Alrighty. So there used to be three things that you needed to have to have a successful funnel. And by successful, I mean, you know, a funnel that made sales reliably, consistently and profitably and that you were able to scale. So that means that as you were able to run more people in it, whether through ads or other traffic sources, it kept working and it kept being profitable. That's the real key. All you used to need were these three things. Number one, a hell's yes offer. So that is an offer that sells with ease and profit. Number two is the right funnel strategy for that offer. Because different types of funnels, different types of marketing and sales mechanisms work differently for different niches, different price points. So you need to have the right offer. Then third, you needed patience and of course, a little bit of an ads budget. That was it. And you know what, the difference between those funnels that scaled successfully, like went from a trickle of sales through to tens to twenties to hundreds. And those that didn't was really that third point, the patience. Because like most things in life and business, you rarely get it as good as it can possibly be. First go. So the difference between an okay funnel and an amazing funnel was how well you then optimized it. But that was a problem, because you know what? There are three reasons why most people will never be able to optimize their funnel. So number one is that most people who are creating funnels, business owners, and business owners, just by definition, are busy humans. So the fact that you managed to carve out that time in the first place to even make the funnel was a miracle. But you had to put a whole lot of stuff on the back burner to do it. And now that stuff has caught up with you. So the funnel's up, it's running, and now you need to get back to all the other stuff you've been neglecting. And you just don't have any more magical pockets of time to be able to dedicate to that optimizing phase. So most people just don't. Because, like I said, testing and optimizing just by its very nature takes time. If you're to make, you know, one change, like maybe you're going to change the office slightly, you then need to run about a hundred or so people through it so that you can see, did that make it better than before? And if it did, great. And then you make the next change. And that is a long, slow, and yeah, okay, for most people, boring process. And most people don't have either the time or the inclination to do that. So most people would generally get discouraged by those first couple attempts if they even made those first few attempts, and they throw in the towel, then the final piece, and we can't discount this is the lack of expertise, because most people who are setting up their own funnels, they're not expert marketers. They're experts in whatever the rest of their business is that it does. They've just maybe followed a plan or a process to set up the funnel that's being taught by someone else. And that's great, that's fine. But just knowing what actually needs to be optimized is something that does take generally years and years of experience and expertise and practice. And, you know, I've had clients who have actually turned off funnels that were working insanely well just because they didn't know the numbers that they should be looking at. Like, these are funnels that could easily be scaled if they knew it was okay to go and scale that. And then on the Other hand, I've had other clients who only needed to make one change. And their funnel all of a sudden went from a trickle to a flood of sales. But they were focusing on the completely wrong thing. They didn't know which change that was. So there's definitely, you know, something to be said for actually having the experience. And again, most people just don't. That's just a fact, and that's okay. And, you know, most people are not big nerds. I haven't spent the last like 15 plus years like I have diving in and learning all the ins and outs of these things. They've been honing their own craft. So realistically, optimization, it just became too hard and became something that just was not really something you really expect most people to either want to or have the capacity or the time or the expertise to do. So this is why most people give up on their funnels really quickly. And then they just go, you know what funnels are? Hard funnels don't work for me because they just didn't have the time or patience to do that optimization stage. So it was kind of a flawed plan from the start. It was a bit unrealistic. Right. So what do we do? Well, as someone who loves funnels and loves teaching funnels, I actually one day came up with this just crazy idea. I thought, what if instead of trying to do the impossible, trying to make regular busy business people magically become marketing experts with loads of free time so they could achieve that one perfect funnel that they really, really wanted? What if instead they didn't need to have one perfect funnel because what they were going to do instead was strategically stack multiple imperfect funnels that even if all of them only worked okay, they would still add up to a conversion rate and a rate of sales and profit that was way higher than industry standards and through this compounding effect that would actually create themselves more sales and more profit. And there was no need for those months of agonizing, what if we could do that instead? So we did and we tried it and it worked really, really well. Because if you think about it, instead of spending months trying to get that one funnel from a conversion rate of 1% to the 2% that you need to be able start running traffic to it profitably, you can simply add a series of, you know, two to three additional totally imperfect, easy to set up funnels behind it that each convert at maybe even 0.5% and you were there. And to be honest, 0.5% is a terrible conversion rate. I would be appalled if even if the most imperfect funnel only converted at that. So if you think about even an imperfect funnel, it's converting closer to that 1% or more, which means that by stacking a couple of them on top of each other that you are instantly looking at closer to a 3% or more conversion rate, which is way above most industry standards. And you don't need to be a marketing expert to do it. All you need to know is the right funnels to stack in the right order for your offers. And this is exactly what we're going to be deep diving into in our brand new live 60 minute masterclass, how to Make Sales Every Day, the Proven Funnel Strategies behind Million Dollar Success. It's running live 4pm on October 23 Pacific Time, which is 10am October 24 Eastern Australian Time. And you just need to head to hellofunnels co everyday or one word and save your seat. We'll have a link below that you can grab as well. Now for those of you listening going that sounds great, but my gosh, creating one funnel sounds insane. Creating three is just completely impossible. The good thing about those extra funnels that you stack is usually they're email only and they can be particularly when you couple them with the right chat GPT prompts, they can be whipped up in an afternoon. So this isn't about making your workload way harder, it's about working smarter and just leaning into the realities of online life that most people are just never going to have that perfect funnel. So instead, what if you don't need to? What if we show you how to stack multiple imperfect funnels so simply and easily, with all the shortcuts possible and have your own funnel ecosystem that works even better. So I can't wait to deep dive into all of this to be able to visually show you how to map this out for your business, for your offers. Plus, because it's live, we'll have loads of time for live Q and A at the end as well, which is always super fun. So make sure, as I said, head to hellofunnels.com everyday fun. Save your seat and I really look forward to nerding out with you there. I'll see you soon. Bye.
