#43 - Do you know what your biggest roadblocks are?
7 Dec 2025 · 1 min
Kate McKibbin walks through five roadblocks that stop online course and coaching businesses from growing: visibility, offer and conversions, sales, delivery capacity, and profitability. She gives specific markers for each one, like visibility problems if you have under 2,000 combined followers and no paid ads, or offer problems if you have an audience but few sales.
You want to be focusing on. You want to be doing the stuff that's going to help you to move forward, get results, to grow.
This is the Doing It Online podcast with your host, serial entrepreneur, 6 and 7 figure funnel strategist and super nerd Kate McKibben. Where every week we're here talking nerdy and sharing the things that actually work to help you do what you do online. But better, easier and with a ton more profit too. Are you ready? Let's do it.
Foreign.
Hey, hey guys, it is Kate McGibbon here from HelloFunnels co and welcome to Doing It Online podcast, episode number 43. And today we are going to talk about something that again, I think is so super valuable when people know what it is. But I don't think enough people know about it. So I want to be here shouting it from the rooftops for you guys today. So this is an exercise. It's actually something that we take our ecourse empire members through altogether and during our twice yearly online retreats. And I found since we started doing it that the clarity that people get and then the results that they've been getting because they've had that clarity and they've known exactly where they need to be focusing their time and effort just from this one simple exercise, it's been bananas. So I wanted to share with you guys now, take you guys through it. This is, you are going to need a pen and paper. So hit pause, go get one. But before we do dive in, I wanted to share something really exciting with you guys because right now applications are open to our totally overhauled, totally amazing ecosystem program. You probably heard me talking about it here on the show. You've probably seen some of our epic results that we shared. And right now you have a chance to not just join myself and my team of experts as we guide you to creating your own six or even seven figure online ecosystem. But you're able to get a second six months of our amazing support access. That's two hot seat style calls a week. You can jump in there at different times, they're with different experts. So we try and make sure we suit as many people as possible. But if you can't make them live, you can submit questions, you can submit links to be audited, we'll look at your sales pages, webinar pages, we'll check emails for you. Like we are here to help you, support you, give you feedback. So you also have access to our amazing community and also our twice yearly virtual retreats. So, so you get an extra six Months of that right now, totally for free, if you are accepted into and of course join our Ecourse Empire program before all the spots are filled. So it is application only, guys, and the applications are open right now. So head over to ecoursempire.com we got all the details and you can jump in and apply and you want to do that ASAP before all the spots are gone. When I was recording this, which is a few days ago, there are only about 20 spots left, so make sure you don't miss out. But while you're doing that, if you need something to listen to in the background, let's dive on into today's episode. So today we are talking about roadblocks, guys. And like I said, this is a process that we take our ecosystem people through. And it has just blown my mind how just going through this simple process can really make a huge impact because I think we all, we know what it's like when you've got a, you know, your to do list is overflowing your, you know that you have, you kind of feel like you're spinning like a thousand plates and you know something's got to give and you don't know what it needs to be. You don't know where you need to be focusing your energy on to. What's the thing that's going to be that make the most impact? Right? We only have a certain number of days in the week, hours in the day, a certain amount of energy, and you want to be making sure you're channeling that energy to the right things and not the, you know, the waste of time. Kind of nice to have kind of things like you want to be focusing on, you want to be doing the stuff that's going to help you to move forward, get results to grow. And sometimes when you're in it, like when you're, you know, you're, you're, you're so close to it because you're in your business every day, it can actually be hard to see what is that area that I need to be focusing on. Like I said, we've got this process that we take our ecosysempire people through which helps them to choose which projects from our curriculum they're then going to, you know, go away and implement and use to then solve this roadblock and move forward as fast as possible. So it's about figuring out currently, what is your big roadblock. And by roadblock, I mean it is like, what is the big issue that needs to be solved right now? What is the one thing that is stopping your growth. The one thing that if you get that fixed, if you do dedicate some time and energy to it, you're going to be able to move forward at a much faster pace. And there's actually, there's, I call them the big five. For most people who are at what I'd say, you know, under probably half a million dollars a year and under in revenue, these five things are the things that are going to be, you know, and, and you usually, you work through them in order and sometimes you have to double back and fix one again as you kind of jump up to the next level. But these are the roadblocks. So number one is visibility. Number two is your offer or your conversions, like if they're not working properly. Number three is sales, as in getting more of them. Number four is your delivery, your capacity or your system. So how you actually, whether or not you are actually able to deliver on those things. And number five is profitability. And it's not just a matter of going, oh, I think that's mine. We've actually got like a little mini self audit that I'm going to take you through now so you can figure out exactly which is the one you should be focusing on. You have a visibility issue if you currently have less than 2,000 people on your email list and social audiences combined and you have no budget for paid ads. So if you have, like, if you're just getting started and you don't have an email list yet, or you don't have much of a social media following yet, but you're happy to, you know, spend some money on paid ads and I'm buy some money, I'd say at least $50 a day. If you're happy to spend $50 a day or more on ads and you can use that to sort of solve this visibility issue, then you don't have visibility issue right now, not this level. But if you aren't, you know, positioned to be able to do that yet and you don't have 2,000 people or more on your email list, then you're really going to want to focus on that. Like, that is what you need to go all in on over these next three, six months to try and, you know, solve that roadblock and then you can move forward. The next roadblock is, you know, you have an offer or conversion issue if you do have at least 2,000 people on your social, like on your email list, but when you promote your offer, nobody is buying. So again, an email list of 2000, like, you're not going to be expecting hundreds of sales, but you should be getting every time you make an offer, a handful of sales at least. If you're not like maybe getting 1, 2 or less, then I would say yes, you have an offer or conversion problem here. Third one is you know you have a sales issue if you're not currently making enough money each month to more than cover your financial freedom checkpoint. So for those of you who don't know what the financial freedom checkpoint is, again, this is part of something we get everyone who comes into our programs to calculate. But basically this is like one of the first milestones for all of our clients that we get them to focus on hitting is you need to know how much does it cost to run your business, including paying yourself enough to cover, you know, all of your own bills, your own regular spending and stuff. Like at this current point, what does that all equal? And then you should be making enough sales each month, preferably through something that's automated or just however you got it set up. But you want to make sure that you're making at least that amount every month reliably so that you know your business, your, you know, everything is paid for. And you don't have to stress if you're not making enough sales each month to do that, then you have a sales issue and you want to focus on how you can start making more sales in a more reliable and consistent way. Fourth is you have a delivery issue. And a delivery issue is usually something people would go, oh, that's a good problem to have, but it's not because it stops you, it stops you from growing because you can't deliver more, which means you can't sell more, which means you can't, you know, earn more and you can't bring in more people into your world. So you know you have a delivery issue. If, and this is a question to ask yourself. If you suddenly made a hundred sales overnight, would you be able to deliver all 100 of those people a great experience? If you answered no, then you have a delivery issue and you need to start looking at, okay, who do you have on your team for support? What are the systems you have? What are your onboarding systems? Do you have automations in place set up so that everyone who comes in who purch purchasers goes through a, you know, an onboarding sequence, a welcome sequence, whatever it is that they are feeling nurtured, they've got all the information that they need and that they, you know, they're getting a great experience whether they were one sale today or A hundred sales today. And third, sorry, not third. Fifth, can't count. Roadblock is profitability. So again, if you've kind of gone through all of these, you kind of like, well, it's sort of an issue. It's not really an issue. Profitability might be the thing you actually need to be focusing on, because without profitability, you cannot grow. If you're just consistently breaking even, breaking even, breaking even, you're not going to be able to grow. It's a very, very stressful way to live. So you have a profitability issue if you are making regular sales and your business is, you know, quote unquote, growing, like all the other important vanity metrics are growing, but your bank account is not. Now, the one caveat I want to put on this is if you are in a period of scale. So that means once you have all your ducks in a row, once you go, yes, my offer is amazing, yes, I've got some really great sales and marketing systems that work and I've tested them and I've proven them. You know, I've got my other systems, I've got my delivery system in place. Like everything is, you know, is tick, tick, tick. Now it's time to hit the gas. Now it's time to grow as fast, you know, to speed up this growth kind of thing. And scale, when you're in a period of scale, it's usually a more expensive, less profitable period while you're kind of accelerating. But that's because it's like give your reinvesting back to push to increase that growth. So once you have spent a bit of time and a bit of cash accelerating up, you will then be at a new revenue level. And usually then the profitability kicks back in. So if you are currently at a period of scale, then that's okay. Profitability isn't necessarily your priority right now, but you need to make sure you're aware of it and you're keeping an eye on it and it doesn't become a new normal of just spending more to earn more and not actually having profit in your business. Because there's kind of no point spending more, working more, and not actually getting more back as well. You know, guys, I'm all about the fair energy exchange and that includes all parts of business. So those are the five roadblocks. Guys, I'd be really interested to know what is your number one roadblock right now? Is it visibility? Is it your offer or your conversions? Is it sales as in making more of them? Is it your delivery or capacity? Or is it your profitability, hit me up over on social at hello Funnels, let me know.
