#5 - 5 Secrets to 5 figure months - Follow The Right Launch Plan (2/5)
7 Dec 2025 · 0 min
Kate McKibbin explains why copying big quarterly launches fails without an audience or budget, and recommends running mini promotions every 30-45 days instead. Smaller, frequent launches create steadier cashflow, let you test faster, and build skills for bigger campaigns later.

And there is nothing worse than that horrible feeling hanging over your head of this better work or I'm going to need to go and get another credit card.
This is the Doing It Online podcast with your Host, serial entrepreneur, 6 and 7 figure funnel strategist and super nerd Kate McKibben, where every week we're here talking, nerdy and sharing the things that actually work to help you do what you do online. But better, easier, and with a ton more profit too. Are you ready? Let's do it.
Hey. Hey everybody. It is Kate McKibbon here and welcome to episode five. Can you believe we're up to that already? Of the Doing It Online podcast. Now, today's episode is actually the second part in our special little kicking off the podcast series, the five Secrets to Five Figure Months. So if you missed yesterday, I recommend you stop this and go back and listen to it or listen to it later because it is jam packed with really gold nuggets around how to create a product that sells like hotcakes, which, hint, hint, is one of the things you need if you're going to crack those five figure months. So today we're going to assume that you've got that product sorted and we're going to move on to one of the next most important pieces of your five figure puzzle. Now this is another really common mistake that I see people making when they're trying to crack those five figure months. And that is that they're actually matching their promotions and launching schedule. Sorry, rather, they're not matching their promotions and launching schedule to where they are right now in business. In fact, they're trying to follow the same launching and promotion plan as someone with tens, if not hundreds of thousands of followers, someone who has a five to six figure monthly ads budget, someone who has a huge team helping them to put all the pieces together and it's just not going to work. So let me know if this sounds at all familiar. When you first decided to start to create an online course or to start launching your course, you had probably seen some of the big people in your industry doing some big amazing launches. And while you never expected yours to be that big right away, you thought it made sense to model your own business off of theirs. So you saw they were doing maybe two to four big launches a year and you decided to do that too. You saw they were doing challenges and webinars and opt ins and all this warmup content and you try to do all of that as well. And damn it if that's not a lot of work Like a lot. And yes, it is very, very stressful. And there is nothing, nothing worse than that horrible feeling hanging over your head of this better work or I'm going to need to go and get another credit card. You know that sort of like that anxious in your gut kind of stress. And then you go and you do that launch and you're exhausted before it starts because you've been doing all of it yourself. And yeah, you make some sales, but nowher near enough to make it all worth the effort. And then you come out the other side and you realize that even though your next plan launch is three to four months away to get ready for it, you are going to need to start again right away. There's no break and you're exhausted and your cash flow sucks even worse now because you've spent so much time out of your day to day money making activities creating this launch. So then you have to take on more one on one clients to make up the sales that you didn't make. But you say to yourself, it's okay, you can just work harder for this next little bit because that next launch is going to work. It has to. Does that sound familiar at all? And you know, no judgment here, okay guys, this is a safe space. I've been there myself. So if that does sound familiar, I don't want you to beat yourself up. This is really, really common. As I said, I see a lot of people who are stuck right there. And it's not your fault because it is a good business practice to find things that are proven and that are working for other people in your industry and try to model them for yours. But where people get stuck is they're only modeling one part of the business, one piece of the puzzle, the calendar piece. You're not modeling all the other pieces that they have in place to make that type of calendar or type of plan both profitable, successful and achievable. You don't already have the massive audience or the big budget to grow that audience even more during your launch time, or the team to actually help you to create and run all the pieces required in the launch. Now before you go thinking, well, I'm just may as well throw in the towel because if I can't be successful until I'm already successful, what the hell's the point? May I suggest an alternate launching plan? One that is much less stressful and that helps you build piece by piece up to those big all singing, all dancing fancy launches that everyone dreams about. And this is instead of putting all of your time Effort, stress and eggs into one fairly infrequent basket. You actually switch to a schedule of more frequent but smaller promotions instead. In fact, I would recommend when you are getting started, you want to be running a mini promo as I call them, roughly every 30 to 45 days. Now this could be a simple email sequence over a couple of days with a cart open and cart close. Or maybe it's a flash sale where do a limited time only discount or a bundle. Or maybe you run a free challenge which has the extra bonus of being a list builder as well and you have an offer at the end. Or maybe it's even you create a new webinar and you invite your list along to it. Now this won't give you the big paydays that a big massive quarterly launch will, but it will give you smaller, more regular cash injections and over time it usually works out it's about the same sales wise as well. It's just broken up into smaller bits. Plus it is way less stressful and way less work. And one of the other things I love about breaking it down this way is that it actually allows you to test things and perfect things a lot faster than if you're only launching every three to six months. For example, if you are currently trying to crack the webinar code, if you ran a live webinar and invited your list to it every month, imagine how much faster and you're going to get really, really good at it. How much faster you're going to be able to go oh, that bit worked. I'll keep that. That bit didn't. I'll change it. Let's see, let's try this. Let's try having these bonuses instead. After a couple of goes you're going to have a killer webinar and it didn't take you a year to get there. Hey guys, it's just Kate here.
