#70 - Have you tried a ”Love me or leave me” email?
7 Dec 2025 · 5 min
Kate McKibbin explains the 'love me or leave me' email: replace your standard welcome message with one that states who you are, what you stand for, and what you offer, then let people opt out if they don't align. The goal is higher engagement and filtering out poor fits with one small affirmative action.

Hello. Hello guys, and welcome to episode number 70 of the Doing It Online podcast. I am Kate McKibben from HelloFinals Co and today I've just got a little incy wincy, teeny weeny episode for you. And this is a simple tip, a simple little strategy that I am loving and have been using for years in my business. And recently I've noticed inside our client community, inside equals Empire. It's having its own little fan girl moment. Like, it is one of the strategies that we share inside the program. And at the moment everyone's just kind of, yeah, they're fanning all over it. And so I thought, you know, well, obviously this is something that right now is touching a nerve and that people are thinking is pretty rad. So being the oversharer that I am, I wanted to share it all with you guys today. This little mini strategy, this thing that you can literally go away and try right now in your business, it should take you maybe 20 minutes to get it put into place, is what is called a love me or leave me email. Now, I do not claim to have invented this type of email. I'm pretty sure it was from Andre Chaperone, who is an amazing copywriter and copy marketer. All the good things go Google him if you're wanting to learn how to do some really great conversion copy. But as I said, I'm not 100% sure because we've been using it for so long, I can't quite remember where it came from. But the gist of it is, is basically this is an email that will replace your introduction or welcome email. So normally, you know, you have opt in bribes or lead magnets, people pop in their address, they get sent that first email which is like, hey, here's your free thing. And then shortly after you have another email which is introducing them to you, just giving them a bit more information, helping to engage with them, helping to remind them who you are and why they opted onto your email address. And also kind of purpose, there is really to also set the tone for any of the emails going forward, set the, let them know what it is they should be expecting. This love me or leave me email, it replaces that. It's a different way of doing that welcome or introduction email. It still covers off a lot of the same points. So you're still going to tell them you know, who you are, what you do, why you're passionate about it. You're probably also going to start to include some of the more controversial stuff in there. I think it's also really important to include things like what you stand for, what's important to you, what you don't believe in. Like, you know, have a few controversial things in here. And finally you're also going to let them know that yes, you're here to help them. You're really great at doing X. You've got some programs and offers that we're going to help them with that and over time you're going to share with them ways that they can come and work with you. And then, and this is why it's called a love me or leave me a moment. This is the thing I really love is that you then put a big ass button in the middle of the email and says basically if this doesn't sound good to you, if you're not on board with this, click here now to opt out. It's kind of throwing the double opt in on its head. And the way that it works is. And you'll find that there's a very low number of people who do click that button. In fact, I think a lot of people respect that you're being upfront and that you're giving them this, giving them, sorry, this extra option for an out if they're not a good fit, if they're, you're not going to be able to give them value if they've kind of ended up somewhere that they shouldn't be. The other really genius thing about this, this tactic and the reason why, you know, people love it so much, I think it does work so well. And by work so well, I mean it helps to increase your engagement ongoing. It helps to increase people's buy in for both you and the services you're offering. The problem you're solving all of those good things. But the reason it does that is if people do not click this button, if they do not click the. No, I don't want to hear from you mentally, what they're doing is saying yes. And every time, as any conversion copywriter or conversion based marketer will tell you, Anytime you can get someone to say yes to you, that adds another bit of trust. That puts another like tick in the pro column for working with you and your services. It makes them just that little bit more likely to be open and receptive to taking that next step with you, to working with you, to finding out more about your offers and services. So that's the love me or leave me emails. I said guys, this is one is short and sweet this week. I know everyone is super busy. This time of year is insane. I want you to if you do have a spare 20 minutes and if that does sound like something might tickle your fancy, go give it a go and then let me know first of all, how did it feel? Because I know a lot of people have this like anxious moment about it. Like what if everyone thinks no? What if everyone opts out? Well, if that's the case, then you may want to look at what the opt ins are and the audience is in the first place because you're clearly getting the wrong people. And then two, let us know how it goes. Let us know do you see a bit of an upswing on your engagement and your open rates for the emails afterwards? We'd love to hear. Let us know over on our DMS ellofunnels. And until then guys, until next week we'll be back with another much longer and equally value packed episode. I'll see you guys all around online. Keep doing what you do and I'll see you then. Bye.
