7 Dec 2025 · 0 min
Kate McKibbin's fifth secret for five-figure months: make sure your course actually delivers exceptional results. Run a small pilot, strip out filler content, and add surprise bonuses. Better results mean better testimonials, referrals, and your own confidence selling it.
That it is great value. That it is the best it can be at delivering epic results. Notice I said the best it can be at delivering epic results, not the best. It can be about perfect graphics or having, you know, amazing lighting in your videos. It's all about the results here.
This is the Doing It Online podcast with your Host, serial entrepreneur, 6 and 7 figure funnel strategist and super nerd Kate McKibben, where every week we're here talking nerdy and sharing the things that actually work to help you do what you do online. But better, easier, and with a ton more profit too. Are you ready? Let's do it.
Hey, hey everyone. It is Kate McKibben here and this is the Doing It Online podcast. And today is day number five in our super special Kick off the Podcast With a Bang series. The five secrets of five big months. So if you haven't listened to the other four days, I definitely recommend you go back and check them out. People have been saying they've been super useful. I've been getting loads of dms being tagged heaps in people with saying they've got had lots of aha moments and that makes me so, so happy and is the reason why I've been actually going back and forth and back and forth on what this number five should be. Because I want to make sure it is the most useful thing, the most useful secret, the thing that people aren't talking about that you guys need to to know about. And I have kept changing my mind all week about what this episode should be about. You know, should it be about, you know, picking a plan and sticking to it? Because that's really important. But you know, it's kind of overdone. Should it be about keeping it simple or staying focused or avoiding shiny new marketing tactics syndrome? All also very important. But you know, I think there's one thing that really tops them all. And it's also, weirdly, not something that's talked about as much as the others. In fact, it barely seems to get any airtime at all. So what is this top secret secret? It's this. It's that you need to make sure your actual product, service or program is actually really, really awesome. I know this isn't about fiddling with it forever or letting your perfectionism step in and stop you from taking action until it's perfect. Because it will never be perfect. And it doesn't need to be to be really, really great and get people amazing results and make an awesome amount of profit too. But. But while I don't want you wasting weeks and weeks tweaking every little detail. I do want you to make sure you actually roll up your sleeves and take the time to make sure whatever it is you're offering that it delivers hell, that it over delivers on its promises. That it is great value. That it is the best it can be at delivering epic results. Notice I said the best it can be at delivering epic results, not the best. It can be about perfect graphics or having, you know, amazing lighting in your videos. It's all about the results here. Because I promise you it will always be hard to sell if it doesn't do that, if it doesn't give the results, if it doesn't do what it says on the tin. So beside it just being the ethical thing to do to make sure your offer actually does what it says it will do, there are actually a few other reasons why it's a great business practice to make sure your products really blow your customers away. And don't worry, I'm going to share my best strategies for making sure yours does very, very soon. So first of all, happy clients and customers give great reviews and testimonials which is so important for your sales pages, emails and marketing. You'll notice it becomes easier and easier over time to sell your offers as you build up this bank of glowing reviews and testimonials. It really, really does. Secondly, these happy clients also go and tell their friends and their networks and they make recommendations, which again is good for business and helps you to grow with zero extra marketing cost. Thirdly, happy clients are such a joy to work with. You'll want to show up and serve even more when you are bolstered by your clients, wins and DMS about how you have literally changed their lives. Hey guys, it's just Kate here. So first of all, I just had to quickly stop by and say thank you so so much for listening to and supporting my brand new podcast. It really means the world to me. It's called Student Love and I love scrolling through them every now and then, especially on days when things are feeling a little bit more challenging. Now back to why it's so important to make sure your offer is awesome. So the fourth reason why you want to spend the time nailing this, and I'm going to give you some tips on how to do that in just a minute, is that if you do not truly believe your product is great and that it will truly help your ideal clients, then it is going to be very, very hard for you to sell it. If you feel like a fraud, it will come through. People won't believe you and then they won't buy from you. Also you won't believe you. So you'll start to procrastinate or you'll sabotage yourself or just generally get in your own way and this will keep you stuck. It really will. Look, Imposter syndrome is very real and it's hard enough to move through when you do believe in your offer and it's bloody impossible when you don't. I know this because it happened to me with my second business. Now it wasn't that the products I created weren't really great. I spent a lot of time on them and they Definitely delivered what was promised. People loved them, they got great results, everyone was happy. The problem was that I didn't love them because I didn't believe in the subject matter. In that case, it was about creating a business from blogging, which is what I was helping people with. I knew how much of hard slog blogging really was, and there were many better business models out there that would work even better for my clients, even though they weren't interested in that yet. Even though these programs were created because they asked me to create them, because they really wanted help with these things that I just happened to be good at. So I created programs around them. But I just felt really out of alignment and it kept me stuck for months until in the end I had to shut it all down. So trust me, selling something you know is going to really help someone you know can completely change their lives. Which is why I changed from blogging to funnels by the way. Because that's what it does is so, so much better. Because it stops being selling and just starts being helping. And that is really, really powerful, I think, especially for us women. Now for those of you listening to this right now thinking, hmm, actually people rarely finish my program and I am not sure if they're actually getting results. I have some simple tweaks you can make to turn your program into the amazing life changing transformational experience you know it can be. And to also make sure you know how good it is deep down in your core so you can feel so damn good about telling people about it that it stops being scary or feeling salesy at all. And for those of you thinking actually tick, my course is already pretty damn epic. Well, I'm sending you a digital high five and you may want to keep listening anyway because you can always make things a little bit better. Okay, so first tip today and this is something so many people seem to want to avoid doing, but it is so important you don't skip this step. So first up, as I said, you cannot skip this. Hell, even if you've had a hundred people through your program, if you skip this step at the start, I would probably encourage you to do it anyway. So first up I need you to make sure that you actually run your program either as one to one sessions or as a really small hands on group first before you try and scale it so something where you're really in there, really involved, really seeing what is happening. So many people in such a rush to get to leveraged that they don't take the time to really master and systemize how they help people. So you don't know which bits are actually valuable and which bits are just filler. And I'm pretty sure we've all been in a course like this. You don't know where people are getting stuck and you don't know where you might be able to add some extra value if you don't actually sort of get in and participate and really see and watch as people go through it. And this makes all the difference between a course that people maybe get a module or two into and then lose interest and one that they devour and that totally transforms their lives. So the second thing most people need to do with their programs ASAP is to actually sit down, map it all out, and then probably delete about 50% of your contents. You see, the thing is, there is such a thing known as the kitchen sink course. This is actually what most people do the first time or the first couple of times that they create a course or an online program. And this is where, and it's usually come from a place where we sort of feel like we have to over deliver and give so much, or we're just so excited about a topic that we literally share every single thing we know about that topic. And we create this massive program with so much information and we think that more is more valuable. We think, I'm going to give them everything that they need. The problem is that becomes really overwhelming. People get in there and all they wanted was the simplest, easiest and most effective way to get from where they are right now to where they want to go. And you've that those bits are kind of lost amongst all the other stuff. All the bits where you go, oh, it'd be good if they knew that. And they probably should know this. And I'll chuck this in as well. And oh, people are always asking about this. So I'll add that in too seriously, most courses, most programs, you could probably go in and easily delete at least 50% of it. And people would actually get better results because you've taken away the clutter and the noise. If you think about it, if someone came into your program and the only bits of information they need to consume, the only tasks they need to do were the ones that were designed specifically to move them to the next step and the next and the next, and there was no filler, how much faster do you think people would move through? How many more people do you think would go further? Because they're not getting overwhelmed, they're not getting hung up on little unimportant details it really can make a huge difference. And I know for a lot of you, like, oh, but these bits are still important. So what can be really effective is I said, sit down, map out the steps that people need to take, and then make sure you get, get down to literally the only the essentials. And if there's other bits which, you know, a lot of people ask about, which you think are also important, but that might get in the way of them actually doing this initial journey, add them in as bonuses, or maybe they're things that people unlock at the end. You just want to make sure that that little path of them getting from A to B is as simple, as effective as possible because then more people will actually do it. So that's tip number two. If you've got that kitchen sink course that, oh, I feel like I just need to tell them everything I've ever learned in the last however many years you've been on this earth. It's okay, everyone does it. But just know that you could probably serve people better if you actually gave them less. I know it feels counterintuitive, but it really works. I have a good friend who has a $60,000 program. Yeah, a $60,000 program. And she went through and she did this exercise a few years ago and she said her retention rates, the results that her people were getting, just skyrocketed after she went and literally removed 50% of the curriculum. It's a really, really powerful exercise. So, okay, last lucky, last thing that you can do to make sure people love, love, love your programs is to think about adding a little unexpected surprise or bonus. Now, maybe this could be some of those non essentials that you removed in that last step we talked about. Or maybe as you run your program, you see there's somewhere that you could add an extra template or a bonus training or even send a little gift that you know will really either help them even get better results, make their day. Little things like this can really help to add some wow factor. They can help to increase engagement and they can really help to create that army of, you know, heart eyes emoji style fans that we all want. So that's it. That is my fifth secret to helping you bust through the four figure ceiling and start making those five and even six figure months that you know you are capable of and that you definitely deserve.
