A recruiter explains why asking candidates for payslips or other proof of past results matters. One candidate claimed he'd built a division from scratch, then went silent when asked to back it up and withdrew his application.

There's no reason why any recruiter shouldn't be able to prove what they built. This is what I build, here's my payslips that correlate back to that. You ask for that? Why would you not? We've had guys as well. A few years ago, guy was going to come in and build a new division out. Met him, fantastic, like spoke a great game, was really keen on joining us. And I was like, look, just so you know, like, this offer is conditional to us seeing that you've built the numbers that you said. And then he went quiet for 3, 4 days, and then he was like, oh no, sorry, actually I've decided to stay where I am. And you think, interesting, it's fine. But that saved us a massive headache. You know, you know, if you want to make sure you've got someone who is that level, why would they have an issue with proving it?
