A consulting firm founder explains why he hires only when existing consultants are already profitable and pulling in work. He rejects artificial headcount deadlines because rapid hiring causes churn and burnout. The goal is 100 happy, profitable consultants built through careful development, not speed.

I know that my end goal is 100 happy, profitable consultants. I will only hire once my current employees are profitable and they're pulling jobs and they're making deals. And then I will still follow my same hiring process as before. So if that takes longer, it takes longer. Mm-hmm. I'm not in some like mad rush where I have to have, you know, 20 heads by this date. I must have 30 by this date. I want to grow and I want to grow quickly, but I have to do it responsibly because if I don't, I'll fail my current employees and fail myself as well. I don't want to just churn and burn people. I've done that in the past and it's a horrible, miserable experience for everybody. A lot of time goes into it, a lot of money goes into it. I spent so much time finding the right people and the best people. I've then got to put the time and energy into developing them to be superstars, achieving all of their goals and dreams.
