A recruiter argues that thin services built on top of LinkedIn offer no real value. Instead, build a fat layer: a smaller, industry-focused database enriched with proprietary candidate data collected through unique questions and processes that LinkedIn doesn't have.

There's going to be a ton of really smart, highly paid people at LinkedIn thinking about how do we leverage AI within the LinkedIn platform. But let's imagine a hypothetical. You're just a thin layer on top of LinkedIn. You take a rec from a client who doesn't have the bandwidth to sort of source via LinkedIn and all these things. That's really bad. That's the worst place you can be. What you really want to be is a fat layer on top of it. While you don't have as many profiles in your database as LinkedIn has, that would be insane. What you do have is profiles that are most relevant to your, your sort of industry that you recruit within. And you have proprietary rich information, unique information maybe because of the question sets that you tend to ask candidates versus your competitors. You know, you'll end up designing that of course so that you have unique data. So yeah, you really want to thicken that, that data layer you have between what you know about candidates and what LinkedIn knows about candidates.
