A 40% conversion rate means you're not disqualifying prospects early enough. Ruthlessly filter after each conversation, confirm the problem with both the manager and their boss, and if you're still missing, you're not listening well enough to tailor your pitch. Niche markets with tight qualification should hit 80% conversion.

If you have a 40% conversion rate, you're probably pitching to the wrong people and you probably need to disqualify them earlier. Because bearing in mind you've had like first engagement, discovery call, and then the presentation, so it's 3 separate conversations and you should be really, really ruthless with like disqualifying people that don't fit. You're talking to a line manager and they feel the problem. Does their manager feel the problem? If their manager doesn't feel it, then again, just cut it. It's fine. If they're doing a good job at qualifying people and they're still having that conversion rate, then I think the problem probably lies in listening and tailoring the pitch to the prospect in the moment. If you were really early on and you just had one pitch deck and you weren't super niche in your vertical, then that conversion rate probably isn't terrible. But actually, when you are really niche in the vertical you operate in and you've done all the qualifying stuff, you should convert 80% of them.
