In this YouTube video, speaker Hishem Azzouz reflects on the profound influence of his mentor, Lisa Forrester, on his recruitment career. He describes how Lisa, a legendary recruiter, took a personal interest in his development, coaching him and modeling exemplary recruitment practices. Sixteen years later, he still reveres her impact and strives to emulate her by mentoring other women at Trenovo Group. He outlines his current mentorship approach: bi‑weekly one‑to‑one sessions with female colleagues, offering sponsorship, advice, and execution support rather than doing the work for them. The talk underscores the lasting value of mentorship, the responsibility to pay it forward, and practical steps to empower women in recruitment.

And then when I joined full-time, it's a lady called Lisa Forrester, if she's listening. When I joined full-time, she really took an interest in me. She hadn't worked with her before she left, so she was a bit of like a bit of a myth and a bit of a legend because she was always at the very top of the contractor runner book. Brilliant. You've heard good things about her. Yeah, she was brilliant. And when she came back and I saw her and I was like, wow, okay, like, this is how you do recruitment. I can see why she's still top of the contract runner book after a year away on maternity leave. But she took a real interest in me and she supported me in the market, she coached me, and I ended up really, really looking up to her. And she made such an impact on me. It's like I said, this day, like 16 years later, I still kind of think about her, talk about her, and I just have the utmost respect for her. So I think if I can be half the recruiter, half the manager, the inspiration that Lisa was to me to another woman, I'd be so chuffed. Yeah, so chuffed. So I do try to kind of like practice what I preach. Preach, practice what I preach as well. So there's a couple of women within kind of Trenovo Group at the moment that I do kind of biweekly one-to-ones with that maybe don't sit in kind of contract recruitment, don't sit in the market that I do, but I've just got the sit down half an hour with them. Cool, what do you want to talk about? Where can I help you? Where are you struggling? And give them the floor and try, because I try to offer that sponsorship and that advice and support on the execution rather than just do this.
