A recruiter explains why meeting clients in person matters. He describes a client who paid £10,000–15,000 in fees to another agency without ever meeting them, calling it ludicrous. Face-to-face relationships keep you top of mind and justify what you charge.

I took a client out a few months ago and she used another agency. I said, this other agency that you use for this area, which is outside of my wheelhouse, how many placements have you done? She said probably 15, 20 in the last year, but she's never come and met me. Really? Yeah, because I made the effort to go and have a dinner and, A, I love doing that anyway, but it's really been that meaning. Like, if you're getting paid on a permanent basis, like 10, 15 grand fee, and you can't go and meet a client. How ludicrous is that? In what transaction would you pay £10,000-15,000 and not meet someone? You can only build a truly long-lasting relationship by meeting people face-to-face. And then what that will mean is that you're the front of their mind when they do have a requirement.
