Life After a Move of God | Ron + Hope: Unfiltered

A post-conference conversation between Ron and Hope Carpenter reflecting on a spiritually intense, presence-driven "transfer" conference. They describe logistical stresses of hosting, standout moments (notably a spontaneous mass laying on of hands during a podcast session that led to a perceived transfer across generations), an anecdotal miracle where a local transformer caught fire and power fully restored to their building during worship, and warnings about spiritual backlash after powerful encounters. They also promote their online community, Redemption Online (myredemption.cc).

Hello, everybody. It's Ron and Hope. Unfiltered, real raw and relevant. And we are here the Wednesday after transfer conference and we are dragging. Let's just be honest.
Everybody in this church, I've never seen this stuff move this slow.
It's slow. They're messing up their words. They're sleep deprived. They are.
Everybody looks like, everybody in the hallway looks like they're walking through mud.
Conference, hangover, the glory, Holy Ghost.
You know, what if people who haven't done one, you really don't know.
Well, it was morning to night.
Yeah. Everybody has, you know, everybody's job has some level of stress. But when you, when you number one, you got your regular Sundays and your regular work, it don't stop. So everybody's got their regular stuff, which everybody's pretty torqued here. But then when you do something where people are coming in from all over America and maybe some parts of the.
World, you're not just here, you're hosting.
Your own quote unquote, you're entertaining. So you got ichurch people coming in for a conference you've never met. We got ministerial fellowship, people coming in you want to spend time with. Then we've got all over the world, the guest speakers, you know, we're the only people that can entertain them. And then because it was a presence driven conference, I told people, I said, you know me, you were here for all of them. You participated in some of them. I said, I usually will start off with a general session in the morning and mine's done. And I take up offerings and I, you know, I go around, make sure everything's running properly.
But you spoke in every single day.
I mean, I was navigating really the flow of every single service in every day session. And then we came back in with two services Sunday and I looked at you and I'm like, and plus, you.
Know, the preparation of the conference.
But this is real raw and relevant.
Yeah.
Them seeing us. I mean, I told her right when I said 4, 3, 2, right when I said, I looked at her and said, look, I am not Mr. Personality today. I said, I'm dragging. I mean, I'm dragging and I ain't 35 no more. Know ain't 35 into.
I mean, we gave out on a spiritual level.
Like maybe never very deep.
Was.
It was a transfer.
It was a pool. Yeah, it was a pool.
And people came to receive and somebody had to be given if somebody's receiving.
But oh my goodness, what a.
It was.
It was life changing.
We've never Had a bad conference. Redemption has never had a bad conference. We never had one where it got through and it was like, ugh. And we probably leave most of them saying, that was the best one ever. I know I've said that before. This one was best in a different category. We never designed one. A whole conference designed to chase God. We've never done that. Which means you have the added stress of not knowing what to plan for. You don't, except just prayerfully and go in with all your antennas up and just be ready. All the moving parts has to be ready to move with God. And that sounds easy until you do it. I don't say the word anxious. Be anxious for nothing. My most stressful parts of all the services are until I get to preach. Once I get to preach, I'm finally okay, I'm settled. I. Okay, I'm in my spot now. But all through then you're trying to. Do I go up in this song? Do I go up in this song? Well, God, what are you saying? What scripture do you want me to use? I don't want to screw this up. Do you want an altar call? If Altar call. What am I calling for? You know, do I transition right here? Oh, it's too high. Oh, it's not low. If you just are a church that, you know, you know, you just kind of keep an ankle deep, you sing a couple of songs and. And do some type of message or. That's one thing. That's not who we are.
That's what we call a highly produced church service.
That's not who we are. We really try to do everything to lead to a moment. The preaching to lead to a moment, the praise to lead to a moment, the worship. But then when you get to the moment, you've got to give God space. And when you're leading thousands of people plus online, you don't know what that's going to look like.
We don't want to just welcome people to have a good experience and to be for them to feel welcomed. We truly do want the Holy Spirit to feel welcome. We want to host the presence of God. And that is kind of hard sometimes because we're human, we're flesh. To hear right, to navigate, to have our heart right? But it was a pull. But I will say, for me, it was the most. Every service had twists and turns and such a lot of unexpected, unexpected things where we met God in a fresh and unusual way.
I don't know how many people here, 12, 1500 during this one session. Let me tell you how unexpected. God moved. We had Emmy here. What's her last name? Amy Moore, here for a podcaster, influencer, wonderful young lady. I didn't know her, so it was suggested that we have her. I said, well, let's do it. And so we had a podcast that I expected to be funzi. She's a very young, vibrant influencer, so I figured it would have that feel. So if you were to ask me the. The session where we could. Okay, I can just rest through this one. It had been that one and 1200, 1500 people were in that session of a podcast. And live laying on of hands of every single person in the room broke out. For the next hour and 15 hour and 20 minutes, it looked like a.
War zone before the Lord, just in awe.
Out of a podcast? Yeah, I mean out of, out of a podcast. I mean a move, a full blown move. And so it was like, it was like that. There was no time to relax because here's God. God comes again. Here he comes again. So by the time me and you got here on Sunday and we went off a couple of days and. And I hadn't even been really relaxed, even after things over with, I'm going to bed in the middle of the night. Just.
Well, let me ask you this. What was your absolute favorite? If you could say, I have a favorite part or a session or a moment, what was your favorite, most meaningful?
I have two co. Equal.
Okay.
Number one, the overall hunger of the people. So not in a particular, just the approach.
Yeah.
There was no tired moment. You know, usually by the third night, it's a little bit of work because to me it was just exhausted. Not this one, buddy. The approach of the people to God was as passionate, long winded as, I mean, services. All of them were two, three hours long or more.
They came to get something from God.
I mean, and you didn't have to ask, you didn't have to stir, you didn't have to pry, you didn't have to raise your hands, you didn't have to do any of that. This place was bananas. And when you start praising God with that amount of liberty, God shows up in a big way because he inhabits praise. And I've always said, you give God a little praise, you experience a little God, you give God a big praise. God comes in a big way. And he did. That was one. So not a session, just the approach. Number two, the podcast. Because out of that came some real raw and relevant.
Out of that came the transfer.
I know that's what I'm saying the transfer happened in the podcast and the questions that were asked between two generations. It was done respectfully, but letting the frustration of one generation to another be known. And it was real. It was real. And I remember one part, I said, I repent on behalf of my generation four. And I forgot even what it was now. And then the other generation turned around and said, what do you want from us? And then something just happened in the room. Wonderful. When it happened in the room.
So the overall hunger and then the podcast.
The actual or the transfer? The laying on of hands. Yeah, and it wasn't normal laying on of hands either. Guys, we've been laying on. We've been laying on hands all our lives. Since I was in Bible college, you know, I've been laying on of hands. But this was not normal. This was. This was one of them times. You can feel it leaving you. Yeah, you could feel it leaving you. Like Jesus, virtue flowed out of me. I could. The pull on the mantle, the anointing that you got, the pull was so great. And that's what I've been quasi complaining about that I was not experiencing that I chased after what other generations had.
So where are the chased after now.
That I'm in my 50s and I'm turning around and I'm starting to, hey, I want to throw this stuff at you. The line was not there. And that was the real conversation in the podcast when it got real in there, during that. And so we'll talk a little bit more about all the things that God did. But I know we got a great, great ad.
Yeah, I want to share my favorites after this, but we have an amazing ad, you know, a sponsor. And we love, yeah, we love HelloFresh in our house. So fresh air, sunshine and good food. Was your favorite part?
I think I have two as well. I think I haven't spoken tons.
A lot.
Did I?
Yep.
I have an overall like that I that I feel like was just so phenomenal the whole thread of the conference. And to me that was how our speakers and our musicians and the stringed instruments that we brought in from Bethel, the Marines, how it just how they were here.
It just happened.
Single session. And they just, it was like they were our own. They interacted the entire time. When Ty Tribut got here, it was like he was one of ours.
Came to every session, came that night.
Do his thing and leave. He came in the next day and jumped on the piano and we had a God moment and then he sang with our team. And I mean, the binion things that.
Usually don't happen yet.
The binions. She sang one of our songs that we had written and it was just.
They were here the whole day. Came back that night.
It was like everybody came for the same purpose.
David, David Bennion actually lit it up that night. He came in here and read a vision that the Lord had given him. And he was reading it off his phone. The place all of a sudden, I ain't seen him do this. He's running all over the stage.
Then Stephen and Laurie, I mean, took one of our. Stephen took one of our already recorded songs and he and Lizzie, with a prophetic word, redid that song. Janice Shostrand. What she imparts is she lit it up. A deep personal. I was just so blown away at how everybody that we had to come be guest. It felt like we were all in one mind, one accord. Everybody was really hungry. Same purpose for the Lord, you know, to impart something. But the moment for me, I think was when you and I were doing question and answers with David and Nicole.
Okay.
And I asked him, I asked them, I said, have you ever had a time where ministry and personal life conflicted. And time. I said that the power went out. It said, boom, boom. And all the power just shut down. We're in the complete dark. And we did not know it. We were sitting there like, okay, what's going on? What do we do? So all of our technicians start scrambling to try to figure out what's going on. So Andrew comes up with his guitar and singing, and everybody starts singing. Well, like a minute later, Jaslyn lets us know that a transformer's former is on fire in our backyard. Like here, right here, a transformer has gone up in smoke and is on fire. The entire street is knocked out of power. We worshiped. We got louder. We did not stop in Ron. After it was over, I just was like, wow, we really stewarded that moment. Right? You know, we could have said, let's go home. Okay, guys, I'm sorry, the power's out. We'll see you tomorrow, or whatever. But we didn't. We pressed through, and I don't know how many minutes it was. Kevin, do you know how long it was? Like 20 minutes that we worshiped and worshiped the dark and pressed in, y'. All. Our lights started flickering. It's like they were getting on a lamp on the stage came on where we were sitting, both lamps, and then the entire power came on. This place went nuts.
Okay, wait a minute now. And nothing else in the region is back on? Just our building.
Yes.
So the transformer is on fire. Everything within the region of that transformer, they pulled it up on the Internet, is blacked out except our building and the transformers behind our building on fire with a fire truck, fire trucks, about three or four, two or three water trucks and fire trucks out there.
Now, our technician, after the fact, said, y' all don't know. That is a legit miracle.
Yeah. Kevin, right here, who helps us with this podcast, he's our lead technician on the West Coast. He said, I just want to tell you, he said, you know, sound systems and laser projectors just don't come on and pick up where they left off. They have to be cut on by a remote, and many of them have to be rebooted.
Yes.
Okay. And then my east coast production guy, who was also watching, text me the same thing. He said, In 30 years of doing this, I have never, you know, we've been through thunderstorms. He said, I have never seen it.
Just come on.
All of it just come back on.
And just without a problem.
All the cameras, everything just came back on and picked up where it left off. And I've seen it.
How many problems do these things cause?
Oh, my gosh. And I've seen it when lost power and they've had to reboot everything and it takes time. And none of that happened. And I told them, I said, guys, right when we're sitting here, beginning in that day where that transfer was going to take place with laying on of hands, I said, I've never been hyper spiritual. You know that. Never been. I do think I am intensely spiritual.
But you're not flaky weary.
Yeah. I've always said this way. I don't see an angel every Thursday.
Right.
I just don't. Some people may. I just don't. That was not natural.
It was not.
And all of the Silicon Valley, the transformer back here, I think there was a collision of kingdoms. I think the transfer was about to take place in that next session and.
The enemy knew it.
Yes. And I think the blackout, especially with the kids.
Yeah, we have two buildings. Y', all, our kids building was totally black.
Yep. But it came back on and now there were only two buildings on. And as of Monday after church, those were the only two buildings still with power. So, you know, those two buildings came back on. But listen to this. After the building went out, I said, we got to go get the kids out of there. When the power came back on here, so we got the kids. And so when the laying on of hands started, it happened to be grandpas, happened to be mamas, happened to be daughters and sons and happened to be grandkids. We had, excuse me, three and four generations in here getting the transfer. Getting the transfer. And I'm like, wow, God is a master designer.
He is.
He just knew what he was doing. He knew the timing.
But, you know, he had to press. We had to press for that.
Had to praise your way through.
We did.
There's a lesson in life on that if you can manage all of life's difficulties and disappointments and praise your way through it, God always shows up because he inhabits praise. God cannot resist praise.
Right.
Kind of like a man. You know, I've always preached that at the marriage conference. You know, a man, if you learn the way a man's wired, you know, a complimental day will get a woman 100 miles, you know, because. And God is the same when you praise God, he cannot resist that. That's why the Bible didn't say, let save people pray. Let everything that had breath. I believe God will come in the space of a heathen if they praise him. So it was an amazing, amazing display. It really was of everything we wanted. It was the hardest conference I've ever planned for because our plan was we want God to show up. Well how do you plan for that and what does it look like?
Said just let me have.
So we went in, we came in every night and people attacked the praise and worship with passion. And every time something different.
Yeah, something special in a different way.
The last night was nothing but worship. And we was in there about 2 hours and 10 minutes. You know, we had a society 242 after power. Six or seven hundred people show up for that. So we did have a little bit of time. But I mean we were in here. Most people in the daytime, they want to be in and out of church total in 55 minutes. We worshiped for over two hours hoping it felt like. And we'd been worshiping for three days.
Yeah, just felt like minutes.
I told you we got, I told you next Saturday when we woke up, I said if we tallied all the hours we worship God. I said there's no way, something's not going to happen. So just so many lessons you've gotten so many praise reports, people sending you videos of after their kids got home, their kids were in the floor, something else.
So we gave our kids our amazing children's ministry. Said we want to teach our kids about transfer and, and how to use prayer cloths and how to anoint them, pray over them. And all the children got prayer cloths and took them home. And one of our moms, just a congregant, she has two boys in children's church, she text me that night and she said my kids have never had an experience like they had with God tonight. Said they did not want me to pick them up at 9:40. Said mom, you came too early. We met with God in a way. God spoke to me, God showed me this blah blah, blah. We've been weeping. All the entire children's ministry has been weeping and crying and so said when they got home they said can we keep praying? Can we continue to pray and worship? And she was sending me videos of her old 11 year old on the floor weeping before God with praise and worship Residue.
Yeah, the residue of it, see that's these people live their whole life and ain't seen that.
Right?
And we saw it not, we just didn't see a little bit of it. We saw a truckload of that kind of stuff. And that is the transfer that is, you know, 9, 10, 11 year olds on their face. And I have people in here. 80 year old on their face and even around the front, you know, you're seeing two and three generations here down front, then all the nationalities. And I just said, God, what are youe doing? And then in one of the most unlikely places in America to do it, I said, ain't that like God, to go right where everybody says it can't happen and do something that's never been done before?
Yeah, y' all better not sleep on California.
Yeah. I'm telling you something. There's an awakening taking place here, and I believe it's going to start right here with praying a hole and praising a hole through the sky. And I just. I know, you know, y' all like the banter and you like me and hope to be on more lighter stuff, but this is a part of our real role and relevant life, too. Yeah, we do like to have fun. We do cut up. We do, I guess, get on each other's nerves. We do find ways to pick at each other and make fun of each other and this, that and other. But we also, we are deeply, deeply rooted in our faith. Deeply rooted. And we believe that God wants to use us to bring something fresh and new to other generations. I'm most grateful right now in my life, ministerially, to be 56 and all, both of our campuses and online is exploding in 18 to 35. Yeah, that is very. That is very special to me. It is refreshing to watch because a seed produces after its own kind. And the way ministry works is most people draw people that are like them, their values look like them about their age. But we are apostolic. Apostolic crosses racial lines, crosses economic lines, they cross generational lines. And it seems to be a place where everybody feels welcome. To me, that's a heavenly scene.
It is. And I want to end with this. I don't know how many of you have been in something so drenched spiritually as we've been in, but there is something called Satanic backlash after you experience glory like that. And I mean, especially when you're drained and you're tired. And Ron and I experienced something some of this this week. I mean, really, we did. We got in a fuss.
And you got a Bible says Satan comes immediately.
Yeah, he comes immediately to steal the Word. And I mean, got in a fuss. I said something ugly to my husband. I mean, I had to apologize. We were just tired and weak and we're not on our guard. We. And so, you know, don't think it's unusual after you leave something that's so powerful and the enemy just Starts throwing darts at you, and he, you know, is trying to come to steal. Steal what? The deposit you got. And it could not be a. You know, you may not have been here, but you could have your own moment with God or have a breakthrough and, you know, you tithed or you gave an offering and then God gave a return, and then the enemy comes immediately to steal that from you. It could be in the area of joy. It could be in the area of a doctor's report. I don't know what it is, but you always got to keep your eyes peeled. And don't think that you get to such a place called there in the spirit that you're not a target anymore, because we all are. And we all are human, and we make mistakes.
One of the last things, one of the parting words I gave the people is, don't let this be stolen from you. One of the last things I said, don't let this be. And I prayed the Lord would seal it and not let it be stolen, not let it be taken from everybody. Because moments like that are so precious. And you can go right back into. You know, you can't live in church. You can't live in a conference. You go back to life, and the enemy's got enough vehicles with life where he tried to just take from you all the advancements that you made in that time with God anyway. What Just a great time. I don't know if people want to hear that, but that's what. We're tired. We are exhausted. Everybody around here slow. We're not made out of Teflon, you know, we do feel it. You know, Jesus, you know, even he said, the flesh is willing, the spirit's willing, but the flesh is weak. And so I'm sitting here now misquoting scriptures in my mind. I just told him, I said, I'm slow as molasses today, but I wouldn't take anything. I wouldn't take anything for what happened at this conference. And we're going to try to package as much as we can of it for you. I tell them, when you have a conference, you got to keep some of the toothpaste in the tube or there's no incentive for people to get on airplanes and travel and be a part. Because what all we try to do online, there is something about being in a room with God's people.
Yes, it is.
And I believe we can get close to that online, and we seek to deliver that as best we can. But when you're there with the people, there's something really really special. That happens. So we did stream the night services. The daytime. I don't know what. Just give me some time. We're going to do something because a lot of the real crazy stuff happened during the day. And I would like people to at least get a synopsis of what can happen if you make the investment to be at something like one of these conferences. So.
Well, it's been good being with you. We love you guys. And if you're listening and you don't have a home church, I would love to invite you to be a part of our church online. Y Redemption Online.
And that's not Facebook Live.
No, it isn't.
A lot of people just why catch your live service on Facebook? We have an online community through the website myredemption cc. And when I tell you it's a community, I mean, it has pastors, it has staffs, it has about 40 care pastor volunteers. We work those threads. We have, you know, we have small groups, we have places to serve. They have meetings. They have regional stuff that they get together and do. They got all kind of. And it is our own. It is Redemption Online. It's Redemption.
How many people do we have just.
On 20, 100, 20, 200 in that. But people are like, well, that's not a ton of people. Well, you know, Facebook Live is 100,000. Yeah, this is a real church. People that they attend Redemption wherever they live, they've never maybe been inside a physical campus, but Redemption is their church home. They worship, they praise, they tithe.
They have home churches.
That is their church. And so people are saying, I don't want to just catch clips of the service. I want to be in an online community. You need to go through the website and hit Redemption Online.
Yes. I mean, people who showed up at this transfer conference who flew in to be with us, and they are all Redemption Online members. It was so special to see people who talk to each other on Sundays online in the chat and then get.
To embrace, get to meet each other.
Each other for the first time.
Coming from all over the world, it's really special.
Coming from all over, really special. We love you guys. Until next time, this is running hope unfiltered, real raw, relevant.
We'll see you real soon.
