Open Heaven | Ron + Hope: Unfiltered

Ron Carpenter says an open heaven requires obedience to spiritual protocols: praise, corporate unity, tithing, and five-fold ministry alignment. He argues many churches prioritize hosting people over hosting God and announces an 8-week teaching series on the keys to function under an open heaven.

Hello, everybody. It's Ron and Hope. Unfiltered can you believe we are in season three?
Yep. So how many episodes we've done? About 4, 500.
How many? I don't know.
I think it's just a little over 100, isn't it?
Maybe. Yes.
Do my eyes look peaked?
Yes, you look like you're not well.
Tell them. Tell them how I feel.
They can hear you. I was sick all last week. Now Ron made me kiss him and now he's sick.
No, what you do is you. Is you think to yourself, that was worth it to me.
Oh, was it?
To risk that just to have a kiss. That's just scored me all kind of points right there. I am nasally and I can't help it. I hope I'm getting on the backside of it, though. I had about three days where we really didn't feel good. And you've been what? A little.
This is like nine days. I'm on day nine and I'm still coughing.
So anyway, I don't know if it's planes, I don't know if it's climate, trains or automobiles. We travel all the time. We're in different atmospheres, different climates. I mean, what, California?
But it's like every time we come to the east coast, we get sick.
Yeah, it does too much. I remember even the one we went to Italy to preach in our network church this past summer. I mean, I was sick the whole time I was there because you had. You left from here, sinus and stuff. Thought that was Covid, actually, the way that thing was acting. But we didn't know. But anyway, it didn't call to talk about. Didn't get on here to talk about sickness. I just want people to know. If I sound like my head's in a barrel, it's because I'm all fit.
You feel like it is?
Yes. But I really. I don't want the fact that I'm not 100% physically to overshadow how excited I am about what I'm getting ready to talk about. This is going to be spiritual in nature. Me and Hope love to laugh. You know that. We love to cut up. We love the witty banter. We love all those things that we do. But what we do is very important to us. What we do is not a gig. What we do is not even a career choice. What we do is we love God and we love people. And any way I can serve God in any way I can help people, we're down for that. And this is just a Different venue and forum to get to you. So, you know, I don't want to turn this into preaching, because you can get me doing that anytime. And pretty much you too. I mean, you can go in the vault and get thousands of hours of preaching. You can go and YouTube the same way. I mean, you can get preaching. So I don't want to turn it into that, but every once in a while.
But it's who you are. You just end up preaching.
Well, I think every once in a while, it's all right, even on our podcast, to be spiritual.
Absolutely.
And I want to do that today because we want to talk about what we feel like God has led us to do this year. And, you know, you may listen to 100 different leaders, different words from God, and they may all be valid. That may be what God is doing in them there.
Right?
And. But for everybody connected to us, I mean, I saw and sought something, you know, unique and God. But God told me to prepare for an open heaven.
I received that.
He told me to prepare for an open heaven. Now, there's some people that they may not know really what that even looks like. They may not know what that means. I think that there are a lot of dynamics to an open heaven, honestly, that we've never seen. I believe there's some things we're supposed to be experiencing that we're not experiencing. And because open heaven takes protocols, and those protocols are not being recognized, those protocols are being ignored. And when God sets in line, a protocol, especially a king, puts in order a protocol, you don't get to just.
Do what you don't decide.
You don't decide on your own to break those protocols and then demand that God show up and bless you so God will let you do it your own way. But there are things you're going to forfeit right in the process. I believe that we have. And I also, believe me, at this stage in my life, me being 55, there's some things, honestly, that I've earned the right to say that maybe 15 years ago, I couldn't have said, I have a more balanced look at the body of Christ than I ever have. And the fact is, in this generation, there are dynamic churches, but there are not dynamic moves of God.
I can agree with that.
Now let me say that there are dynamic churches. There are churches that are doing a lot for people. In other words, it is a great organization to be a part of, and it's probably profitable or fruitful for you to be connected to it. I submit to you that in those Same churches. Most of those people would not even know what a move of God looked like, would not recognize it if it wanted to come. And we may have missed a million moments where God wanted to do something, but we didn't know how, we didn't know why, we didn't know protocols. And I just wanted to talk about some of those things today, because if you're connected with us, maybe your way of connecting is through this podcast. You'll have plenty of time where we're going to hit topics on relationships and habits and all this stuff. We'll just laugh and cut up. But for those who want to function under an open heaven, I want you to hang around a few minutes because I just got some dynamics I want to discuss.
I think that is the scripture. No eye has seen, no ear has heard, nor has it entered into the heart of the man of man. What God has in store for us. I don't believe that's heaven. I believe that's here on earth. Absolutely, that's here on earth. And I don't think we can even comprehend what all God wants for us and has for us and wants us to operate in. I mean, do we even think that way? Do we even wake up saying, and that's the key.
That's the key.
I see this, I think this way. I was brought up to think this way, or expect this in my life, or operate like this. But truly, no eye has seen, no ear has heard, nor has it entered into our heart. We can't even fathom the amazing things that God wants for us to live in and operate in. And I want to live there. I desire that.
Here's the thing, and I don't know how we're going to get all this in within the time frame that we got. We can, but there are protocols that have to be abided by. When I say protocols, Jesus called them keys, right? There are keys to the kingdom of heaven. If you want the kingdom of heaven to open up over you, they are only accessed and unlocked through keys. Those keys have to be obeyed, and they are not optional. You don't have to obey them to be saved. You don't have to obey them. To go to heaven one day, to.
Have righteousness, peace and joy and the.
Holy Ghost, to have the things of heaven open up to here on earth and access those things. There's keys here that access it. And most of the time it's the key that a collective has to obey and not just an individual. And therein lies the difficulty.
That's everybody getting in unity.
Because the body of Christ is no longer a singular man. The body of Christ is now a corporate man. And although the body has many members, it is one body, it is a collective. So God does not see us as many members. God sees us as one.
So the goal is unity. And that is so hard to achieve. I mean, when you've got people in the same office buildings who can't agree on anything, I'm going to have to.
Find a place to start. Because you talk about unity, then you got to back up and say, who are the ones that create unity? Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. Till we all come to unity in the faith and attain the full measure of the stature of Christ.
We don't even. We don't recognize apostles and prophets when.
The last time you heard somebody was an apostle or a prophet or even evangelists. We have. Everybody's a pastor. Just everybody's a pastor.
Well, I think it's the mindset of, does it take all that?
Absolutely, yes.
But I think that is how we have digressed now.
There's some people that don't want that, right?
Or don't even believe it.
Ron, you have your signs and wonders and you have your great altar calls, and some people will go and get miracles. And that's all right. We really like the way our children's ministries run and we like the production we do on Sunday. And we don't want that. All right, if you don't want that, that's fine. There will come a day you or somebody needs something supernaturally. There will be a day you have come to the end of everything in yourself and anybody around you can offer. And you're going to need something not of this world to touch and affect your life.
You hit a wall in places.
And a lot of those pastors are so young that they don't know what it is to have failing parents yet because their parents are so old. They don't know what it is to have kids moving into adulthoods who have made bad decisions. They don't know what it is to have people who are addicted. They don't know what it is to have people who walk in one day and say, I'm gay. They don't have. They don't know what all those things are. It's still fun.
Yeah, hadn't lived long enough.
It's still fun. And so they're doing well and they got all their stuff together and Sunday morning is really happening. But God didn't want us to do good church. God wanted heaven to Invade earth.
That's right.
I'm just going to tell you I see very little of that and I'm pretty well traveled.
And you know what we're talking about today is the word for the year. We forgot to mention that we're talking about what is our word for the year. And it is the year of an open heaven.
Let me start back on this and give a three minute story. And I know we got some ads today. You want to do the ad first? Yeah, sure, let's do that.
And I'm excited about this new ad. This is a new partnership. This is a new partnership for us. And it is. I'm so excited about it because, you know, you never operate in your life above your level of revelation. You know, you never operate in your life above the level of what your mind knows, what your mind has taken to be truth. And listen, time is our most precious commodity. And I've heard from so many of our listeners who have asked for my advice about how they spend it wisely to improve themselves and the people around them. That's why I'm excited about Hillsdale College. They're offering more than 40 free online courses in the most important and enduring subjects. Hey guys, check into that. I'm having people all the time asking me about good online colleges and courses. Well, we have a new sponsor and I want you to check them out and let them know you heard it from us. Amen. Let me start with this story and you have to keep me on my time. I don't have my phone with me. Hope. It's been years ago now, but I went to one of the foremost known Seeker churches in America to speak at their special conference. You remember this?
Yes.
I didn't know you come and you flew out there and surprised me actually. It was a big opportunity for me, a big network, everything. And when you saw the list, they had a bunch of speakers, like 12. And when you saw the list, I was a real anomaly. I make fun of that, but. But it's easy to look and pick like, what is Ron doing there? Because I wasn't kind of from the same tribe of anybody and don't really know why he invited me. I didn't have a relationship with him. I got there and I remember telling you that was one of the most anxiety ridden preparations I'd ever done because although I want to impact everywhere I go, I don't want to be stupid. These were non Pentecostal people, very non Pentecostal people, very influential people, very well resourced people. And the building was going to be full of pastors and it held about 4,000 people. And so I remember preparing for that thing. I literally tried to prepare the most watered down message, generic message on potential that I could. I remember the message, potential. And I went in there that night and I stepped up on the stage when they introduced me and they had a big monitor right in front of me. It said 20, 1959, 1958. So I ain't even said, hey, my name's Ron and I'm on a 20 minute countdown, okay? So I get up there and so I realize, you know what I'm going to do, I must do quickly. So I start preaching and hope you were in there. I don't know what started happening, but you know, I'm a God guy, I'm a move of God guy. And something in the room started happening and I could even feel, I'm like, oh no, you know, God, let me get in my element to do. I could just feel it. And it built and I'm squishing the story and it built and I got down to 13 minutes and it popped back up to 18. I'm like, he gave me five more minutes. It went down to 13 and popped up again. And so finally I was preaching and this thing reached a feverish pitch on this message of potential. And I looked at the whole crowd and I said, look, I know we're from different backgrounds. I said, and I don't know what you do. I said, but I need a second. And I turned around and you started shouting. And I gave my God a shout of praise, you know, like I do. When I did, they stood up that church, got on their feet and went off like a bomb.
Yeah.
They were clapping. They didn't even know how to shout. They were, like, at a ball. They were like, yay. It was amazing. And the guy on the front row who put the conference together, he's a real dramatic guy. I love him, but he was. I mean, his eyeballs were this big around, and I could tell in his eyes, the fear, like, this dude has wrecked my conference. After it was over with, I haven't even met him yet. And you and I have someone come out and say, pastor, would like to take you and your wife to lunch. And I'm like, oh, here it comes.
You're in trouble.
So we decide that we will go. They took us out. It was small talk all the way there. Small talk right. Until the waitress left. When the waitress left, you remember what he did?
Yep. He came across the stable.
How did you do that? He came across the table and got right here and said, I want to know how you did that. Stern.
Yeah.
And I looked at him, I said, pastor, I said, you know, where I come from, that's a moment. We live for this.
It's a God moment.
We. We try to obey things, to give God those spaces. He had no concept. All he knows is 1, 2, 3.
He thought it was orchestrated.
Yes. 1, 2, and 3 will take you to 4. And he thought I'd orchestrated it. And he wanted to know, how did you get that thing to do that? Well, while we were off eating with him, we had my praise and worship leader, who was at that time, Stephen Ward, was back at the church, and when he saw the service go there, he went up and got on the keyboard and. And started moving it with me, because we understand to everything there's a sound. So that was normal to us. Well, the praise and worship leader there came up to him and said, how did y' all do that? Was that planned? Was that scripted? And he's like, no, that's just what we do when God begins to move. Guy had no concept. And he told Stephen, he said, our whole service would implode if we did that. This is a major, major church and still is a major church and leader in this generation. That's what I'm talking about. Is this guy a good guy? I could call him and I could trust him with anything.
Yep.
Do I love him? Yeah. Is he a friend? Yeah. No concept whatsoever of an open heaven, of an open heaven and heaven coming in the room, invading, busting up your plans and doing something in a moment, in the people that you couldn't do in a thousand years.
That's sad to me.
That's what I'm talking about. That is what I'm saying. So I'm taking the first eight weeks. If you have never gotten on I church or our social media platforms and had church with us, I'm taking the first eight weeks of this year, and I am going to go into all of the keys of praise and worship.
Oh, that's so good.
Because I don't think people understand why we do what we do. There is something happening when you clap. It's not just church culture.
Right.
There's some. There is something significant happening when the people respond with amen. There's something significant to the shout, which seems ridiculous and preposterous. That's one of the most lethal weapons of praise. There's something happening with uplifted hands. There's something that barrenness leaves when you dance.
Yeah. Whoo.
Barrenness, you got to listen to. In other words, all of these things are key elements. Psalm 149 and Psalm 150. Praise him in the. Praise him in the. This is the key. This is the key. And this honor hath all the saints to execute judgment.
Yeah. Vengeance.
In other words, when we are praising. Right. There are things that are happening in the heavens. See, sometimes we make the mistake of thinking the only thing happening in the room is what we see.
Yeah. No, no, no, no. There's more happening where we can't see.
Oh.
Than what we see.
And if you're not following these protocols, there's nothing happening.
Right.
Because God responds to obedience. So I will enter his gates with thanksgiving. Now we're in a worship culture nobody praises. When we got our record label started, Red Worship, one of the things I wanted to do was start back upbeat songs, because now they call them unicorns. You know why they call them unicorns? Because nobody does them. It's a worship culture. In the Old Testament, there's a pattern. You can't walk right into the holy of holies, you die.
Yeah.
You enter gates with thanksgiving. You enter the courts with praise. And there is a protocol to that. And then when you get to come into the throne room of God and worship, you get to ask boldly anything you want.
Anything. Protocols.
Oh, man. Under an open heaven, God says, tell me what you will, tell me what you will. But most people never get there. And they're like, well, that's the way we do it. Well, I don't care. Does God do it that way?
Right.
And hope Here's a big statement. The church of the last 15 years that I have been a part of has put an unbelievable amount of emphasis on hosting people. But the church I was raised in put an emphasis on hosting God.
Yeah, we didn't want to go to church unless we met with God miserable. Yeah.
Why go?
That was the goal.
Why go? So we were not good at hosting people, but we were good at hosting God. Now we are latte experts. People walking in church with their latte.
Giving them their preference.
We'll escort your kids on a golf cart to their room and let them go down a Noah chute. And we'll give you your koozie on the way out and throw you a T shirt in if you bring a visitor. We know how to host people, but we've lost how to host God. What is Ron Carpenter trying to do? Why can't we do both?
We can.
Why can't we create an atmosphere where people are welcome and create an atmosphere where God is welcome? Mary, you are. Excuse me, you are encompassed by many things. Martha, you are encompassed by many things. But Mary has chosen the greater portion in every gathering. We get to host humanity and we get to host deity. But my emphasis and my greater portion is to make sure God is comfortable. If nobody's comfortable.
Yeah. You remember when years ago, I don't.
Know.
4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. We had holy Ghost tear downs. People would be inconvenienced for it. They'd stand outside, they'd be.
Park in the dirt.
Park in the dirt. That's what I long for. That is what I long for. An open heaven.
We had a generation that has come along that has not valued that. Now sociologists are saying Gen Z is going to reverse that. The baby boomers and baby busters wanted to host God, but really were not hospitable people in church services, the millennials picked up on this and said, we're going to make everybody welcome. And has done a heck of a job in creating environments where people feel so comfortable. But we've lost the hosting God part, and we just go in there and do whatever. I mean, just literally have a good chance experience. And now they say Generation Z is not impressed with all the production. They've seen the lights, they've seen the smoke, and, like, I can pretty much go anywhere and see that. And they're after the raw power, and they'll go in a barn and sit on a bell of hay if God's there. And so I think you're going to see this come back Full circle. Because Mary chose the greater portion. She chose to honor the deity of Jesus, while Martha wanted to serve the humanity of Jesus.
And we're not talking about throwing the baby out with the bathwater. We have both. Yeah, you can have both.
It don't have to be either or equality.
We want musicians who can play, singers who can sing.
Certainly don't want to get into politics.
We're qualified to take care of our kids.
But why can't it be. Why has it got to be Republican or Democrat? I've always said, why can't somebody hit it right down the middle? Why can't somebody know how to run a military, know how to run an economy, and understand that there are social injustices that need to be corrected and pursued? I don't understand why it's either or. If I was running for president, I would understand that all of those things need to be taken care of. And so in church, it's either it's or it's either it's or. And why can't it be both? Both and.
Well, you know, the truth is we don't have to worry about any other churches. We don't have to worry about any other pastors. We don't have to worry about any other congregations. We are responsible for steward and ours.
And that's where we're. So if people want to know where we're going, that's where we're going. Another open heaven. Hope is the tithe.
Yep.
And see if I'll not open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing you don't have room to receive. Now, I've been tithing my whole life. I've never seen a blessing that I didn't have room for.
I know.
I've never seen it. So something's wrong. Or God has lied and he doesn't.
He doesn't.
And since the Bible declares it's impossible for God to lie, then there's something we're doing wrong. If you look at it, he says, you have robbed me. He's talking to Israel. He said, every last one of you is a thief. Well, I hope that ain't true.
Right.
You read the Bible. They religiously brought alms and brought offerings into the temple and gave their first fruits to the Lord. I mean, religiously. But God, they didn't look up and say, a few of y'. All. He said, israel, every last one of y' all is a thief.
Because he saw them as a whole.
He saw them as one. So in other words, the corporate blessing that is to be Released an open heaven where there is a blessing that we don't have room for.
Means everybody's got to be in unity.
13% of the people are tithing.
It's back to unity. Everybody's got to be doing it, saying the same thing, doing the same thing.
I feel the individual trickle effect of being an individual tither. But I've never been in a service where 100% of people tithe. If it did, a corporate blessing would be released. What does that even look like? The only thing I know that it looks like, Acts, chapter 2, verses 42, 46, right after inauguration of the church in the book of Acts said this after the Holy Ghost came in. Acts, Chapter 2 in the upper room, it said, and there was no need found among them. If we went in our church service and passed a microphone and I said, tell me what your needs are, we'd be there four days.
Everybody has them.
There was. Can you imagine? I don't need anything. I don't need anything. What about, we're good. I don't need anything. What kind of church is that? And that's the only thing I can comprehend what the corporate blessing looks like. All of them were in one accord.
Yeah, one accord.
They were doing the same thing. And what was happening? Everybody's needs were met. No one was in lack of word. And so now how do we reach that unity in the faith? There are keys. Apostolic ministry, prophetic ministry. Lord, in our seeker churches, we couldn't handle prophetic ministry. Prophetic ministry would give everybody heart palpitations because prophetic will call you into alignment.
Like that, into order.
Don't care whether you like it or not. It just sees what is versus what God wants and calls it out. We don't want that in our church. Apostolic ministry is pioneering ministry. It takes risks. And then you got evangelistic, which goes to any length of soul. When you got pastor, which is a maintainer and a shepherd, and you got teaching, which is a discipler. It takes all five to bring the unity of the Spirit till we reach here again the full measure of Christ. You have a measure, I have a measure. They have a measure, you have a measure. But only when we're together in a collective do we have the full measure.
Only when we're together in a collective, but all doing the same thing, we can all be together collective. But if we are not all doing the same thing.
But baby doll, here's what we got to quit worrying about. The world calls that a cult, right?
But it's not.
You got to quit worrying about what the world says. The Bible talks.
The Bible calls it unity.
The Bible talks about they were saying the same thing. The Bible even talks about them thinking the same thing. Why does the Bible talk about the mind of Christ, that collective of people that are the anointed? The body of Christ, the body of the anointing should also have the mind of the anointing. They should be think the same way and hope. Here's the key to anything God wants to do. It's not can God do it? It's can you think it?
Can you think it? Can you receive it? Can you embrace it?
What did I teach Sunday? I taught Sunday. Paul said, I want you to know what your inheritance is and what is the hope of your calling. And I pray that you have the spirit of wisdom, revelation in the knowledge of him and that the eyes of your understanding be enlightened. In other words, he says it isn't. Does God have it and can God do it? He says it's can you comprehend it? He says, I'm not. He said, this inheritance that you have waiting on you, he said he's blessed you with every spiritual blessing in the.
Heavens, in heavenly places.
Ephesians, Now I'm praying for you that you're thinking the eyes of your understanding, being enlightened, that you have the spirit of wisdom and revelation. Now, this is a lot of wordiness here in Ephesians, but Ephesians is one of the most powerful books in the Bible. Look what it says. That the eyes of your understanding may be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of your calling, which he demonstrated in Christ when he raised him from the dead and set him above all principality, power, name in heaven and earth and under the earth and put all things under his feet. He says, your inheritance, if you can understand it, is the resurrected power of Jesus Christ and being exalted above everything in life. And everything was under his feet. That is the calling I have.
That's walking in authority over every area in your life.
This nasal congestion should be under my feet. Any sickness should be under my feet. Disease should be under my feet. What is that? That is the miraculous.
You sounded like aria when you said under my feet.
It's it. We're so far away from it and I want to.
Because we think. We dumb ourselves down to thinking, what's the next Netflix series we go watch?
I'm going to go ahead and say it because our buildings are full and the bills are paid and I'm not going to let God mess it up.
Yep. But that's church leadership. I'm talking about the people listening out here.
Well, here's what I'm going to say. Because all these people don't go to our church. I don't know that it's the people that don't want to move of God. I think it's the handlers that won't let God get to the people.
Yeah, but the five fold ministry has got to create a hunger, has got to teach on it, has got to preach on it. Like you said, until we become mature. But until if they don't, there is no hunger. And people just working nine to five, they're just trying to get by. They don't, they're not thinking this way. No, they don't. But that's where their mind is. But that's where their mind is.
But leaders are letting them stay there. And leaders need to understand these heavenly protocols and these. We don't even really have Bible teachers anymore.
No, it's just cute little spirit.
I don't even know if people go to Bible school anymore. People make fun of Bible school. I'm going to tell you. I needed every single class I took. I needed every Greek class, I needed every Hebrew class. I wanted to understand those original texts. I needed every theology so I'd be grounded and don't get up there and say ridiculous things. Every one of my mentors, Mike Murdoch and Miles Monroe and Bishop Jakes and on and on and on. All these people who over the years poured into me, I needed every bit of those things. And I hear now, you know, we have very pop culture topics. And I'm so, I so desire for somebody to open up Ephesians 3 and break that bread down. I preached on the anointed. The body of Christ is now a collective. And I had people on the west coast when I preached it come up to me who are very brilliant people. I mean, you remember some of them and they say, I have never thought of anything like they were so intrigued and made hungry. This word, if it touches the people, you don't hunger hope for what you've never tasted.
Right.
But if you taste and see that the Lord is good. So I'm asking some of these guys to let the people taste the supernatural power of God which is only released when certain protocols are abided by. All I've talked about is praise and worship. All I've talked about is tithe and offering. There's so, so many more. But I'm going to take eight weeks and talk about what we have to do to function under an open heaven.
And we believe it's possible.
Yes, we do.
We believe it's possible and I want to see it. We've seen it it, we've seen it in our life here and there, but I want to live in it. So listen, if you are, don't have a church home or if you're part of redemption, you have got to get online and hear the next six to.
Eight weeks and it's going to be at least eight, eight weeks teaching.
It's going to be so good.
It's going to be wild. I'm going to tell you, I'm going to be wild. And I've already warned all of our musicians. I've already warned all of our praise team members. Ain't nobody going to go off and sit back off to stay. We are up there because to facilitate a move. Yes, we're up there. Facilitate. That's a great way to put it. Facilitate a move of God and it takes all hands on deck. There's no such thing as a song service, right? There's no such thing with God. It's praise and it's worship. And if praise and worship is not happening, your song service is irrelevant. It's about opening the windows of heaven so good and God coming in. Do we have any more sponsors today?
Not today.
Well, you know what? I think I've said enough. Have I whet your appetite just a little bit? Thank you. I'm excited. I'm passionate about this. If you want to know what my wheelhouse is, this is me. You're probably going to see me in rare form in the next eight weeks. I can't wait because I've, I dialed it in a little bit. I've admitted that. I admitted I don't know if I did the right thing, but when God commissioned me to the most unchurched region in all of our nation, you know, here again, I wanted to try to use wisdom, but I think God's wisdom was he wanted to take what was in me to a place that had.
Never experienced and it is exploding.
And the more we turned it loose, the more it explodes. So east coast or west coast, great things are happening and I would love for you to get online and be a part all of our social media platforms. But let me pump it. I church, you're a part of us and we will do our best to pastor you and connect with you.
