Ron + Hope: Unfiltered - Men, You Must Lead Yourself Before You Lead A Woman

A Ron & Hope Unfiltered episode (YouTube) where Ron and Hope Carpenter discuss qualities that make a man easy for a wife to submit to: having a forward vision for the family, strength balanced with gentleness, sacrificial/headship modeled on Christ, preferring and valuing his wife, and bringing clarity so a wife can run with his vision. The conversation mixes scriptural framing (Ephesians 5, mutual submission), personal anecdotes (real estate strategy, a 2,200-mile move, a season of crisis, counseling at Blessings Ranch), and practical guidance (write vision down, prioritize spouse). They also promote upcoming events (marriage conference on the East Coast, Hope's women's conference).
Questions this video answers
July 8th.
55 years old.

Hello everybody. Ron and Hope Unfiltered Cheers. So glad that you are here. Is that water good? Let's see.
You know, since the last time I spoke to everybody, I'm 55 now.
That's right.
I haven't spoken anybody since I'm 55.
Ron had a birthday July 8th.
Yep. And I'm double nickels now. Guys, here's what I really cannot. That's what I can't wrap my head around. I.
Did you get your card yet?
In my mind, in my mind I just kind of think of myself like, you know, 35.
Oh, you think you, you think you.
Are like the man I go to 55 year old, I say to 55 year old people. I go to them and say yes sir because I don't see myself.
Is that why you making me say yes sir now?
Yep. Well, I'm trying to do what Sarah did to Abraham. Trying to get you call me lord. But you won't do it.
I will not.
But Sarah called Abraham Lord and she was blessed because of it.
Can't do it. I can't make myself do it. I just can't. I cannot make myself do it. I only have one Lord.
This topic that you have picked today, it's going to be interesting. Tell them what it is. You picked this one, you.
I thought it would be really good to talk about men. You need to lead yourself before you lead us.
All men feel attacked right now. Men worldwide are feeling attacked right now.
Do they?
Yep.
Well, you know, truth offends you before it moves you.
So my wife would like for me to talk about what kind of man. Basically, it's easy to live with, it's easy to submit to and there are about four or five very high bars that God sets for men. Yeah, we talk about some of them, not all of them. We talk about some of them in our marriage conference. So I'll just put a plug in for that which is going to be east coast.
It's east coast. East coast in February. Go to roncarpenter.com to register.
We still got about half of the registrations open. I think take up like four or five hundred couples. About half of those are still available but we're a long way out. But you know, I feel like you're.
So far away from me.
I know it. Don't come here. We can't because we're all set up closer to me.
And just turn. There you go. And then turn your mic.
It's my birthday, baby.
Turn. It is not. It's my birthday Your birthday is over.
You have birth month. Why can't I have a couple of birthdays?
There you go.
You have birth month.
Okay.
Men, let me start on something. When you threw this topic out, and you do pick most of the topics and you pick good ones, but when you threw this one out, I tried to think, you know, instead of me just getting on here and telling everybody what the Bible says, because I'm always. I'm going to be Bible centric, right?
Right. Good. We like that.
The core values of everything that I do in life are biblical, right? My finances, my core values are biblical. My relationships, my husbandhood, my fatherhood, my everything is a Christocentric, biblical centric view. So I know we may have people rock through here that really aren't church people, but they got to know the hub out of which my values originate. So long and short of it, I don't want you to try to quote scripture. I just want you to ponder. This is unscripted. We don't have any notes here. What are some qualities, and they might be my qualities. If they're not, if I don't possess them, don't show me too much in front of everybody.
I'm still here, right. 33 years later.
That. As for you as a woman, it's easy to submit to because the Bible does have the submission chapter and Ephesians 5 that nobody likes to read. But what we talk about there is the Bible doesn't say women submit to men. It says wives submit to husbands. But then it says, love your wives as Christ loves the church. And I've always said that guy's easy to submit to, right?
I mean, because he was crucified, he died for me.
What Jesus has put up with to stay in a relationship with Ron Carpenter, the pursuit that he continues with me, the constant forgiveness, the constant understanding, the patience, grace, mercy. The grace, the mercy to stay in a relationship with me. When you marry a guy who loves like that, that's. That's easy to submit to. So just, just you. And think about Ponder, you know, three or four, you know, this right here is a quality that a man would have to possess that would make it easy for me to submit to number one.
And I've told you this many times, one of the things that I love about you so much is that you always have a vision. You, you know where you want our family to go, you know where you want to take us financially, you know where you want to take us in our business, you know what, what you wanted for our children, we Were very determined to have our kids in Christian school. You made the necessary arrangements for us to be able to afford that. You always had a plan. And I felt safe.
I was gonna ask you, what feeling do you get from that?
It made me feel very, very safe. That I know that. I knew.
By the way, you're doing real good here.
Oh, am I?
Okay, go ahead.
Just gonna get me some things. It made me feel very safe that I knew I could rest in your.
Planning even if we were in a bad place. You felt like God would give me something.
Yes.
God will show Ron something.
Yeah. Because you know what? You always would do that. You would always say, hope I got to go get with God.
I would tell you that hope, I.
Got to go get with God on whatever it was we were talking about or decision we needed to make. And knowing that my husband was going to God to get an answer made me feel so safe. Makes you cry. Don't. It makes me cry, too. It made me feel so safe that I could rest because I knew that you were talking to God. Sorry, guys. That kind of hit a little nerve. That hit both of us.
We've done a lot of laughing on here. I don't think I've done no tears.
They're gonna bring us some tissues.
Let's. Thank you. Thank you. Didn't. I'm sorry. I didn't see that coming. Listen, when people out there who just see you on a video compliment you, it's a blessing. It feels good. But when the person who knows you backwards and forwards and knows all your flaws compliments you, it's much deeper. So I tell you what, as we talk about these, Let me put the scripture with it. The Bible says a man who does not provide for his household is worse than an infidel. You and I came up in a church where they say, if you know, if you want, you don't work, you don't work. You're sorry, you don't work, you're sorry. That's really not where that. But the Bible does say you don't work, you don't eat. It does say that, but that's not really what that scripture is saying. The vide comes from the root word vision, and pro means forward. It's saying a man who does not have a vision forward.
Yeah.
For his family. Is worse than an infidel. The word infidel means one ruled by the senses. In other words, visionary cannot be dominated by senses. But what you see here and here sometimes will look totally different than what you see.
You got to have a plan for the future. Future. And it means that you cannot live for the day because you have to say no to the things you want. You have to say no to temporary pleasures. You have to say no to spending. You have to say no to a lot of things to make that future, that provision come to pass.
Right. So to not be an infidel, it means you can't be ruled about the latest set of circumstances that has dealt you a setback.
Right.
Someone always sees something other than what's right in front of them. That's, you know. So you tried the business. You and your wife stepped out on faith. It didn't work. You spent all your resources, your savings is empty, and it just didn't take off. Okay? The man has got to see tomorrow.
Yeah.
God does not put the burden on the woman. Although women can be visionary.
Right.
God puts the burden on the man to not be dominated by that moment. And let's live in it 10 years and let it wreck our marriage.
Right. You turn around and look back and say, we've not saved any money. We haven't gotten out of debt. We're still fighting on the same level. We're still living on the same level. We've not grown. We've not stretched or matured. And you've always been so good to be willing to go to God, get the vision, and we'll shift, we'll alter, we'll adjust. We'll do whatever we have to do to stretch and grow and get to the next level.
And if I can't get it, it really bothers me if I feel like I'm not. If I feel like I'm unclear on something. I got to be honest with you. It's like that thing picking at a scab. It just bothers me until I get direction, until I get an answer. So men, I think what I would say are ladies who are living with these men. The fact is, it's easy to submit to a guy who is never dominated by. You know, there's a way to pay off those school loans.
Yeah. Don't freak out over there.
There's a way.
Don't lose your mind over it.
Don't act like. Don't act like a person who has no God.
Come on, now.
You have a God.
Yeah.
And you are never stuck in whatever you're in. There is always a way out. And so you're not. You're not. There is a way to pay off those hospital bills. There is a way to fix your credit. There is a way to get your kids into school. You want them in. And you and I right now see ourselves faced with you taking care of parents. And we've even created trusts for grandkids to be able to get the kind of schooling they want. And I'm glad to do that. It's taken a little bit of spending money out of our pocket to.
Because we're not living for the temporary.
But we're trying to create tomorrows that bless every. That bless our posterity and not just us. So I thank you for that. And that's the scripture that goes with that. Another one you said always had a plan. And these don't always have to pertain to me. The kind of man. I'm sure there's some things you like that I'm weak in.
I think a woman wants to know that her husband is strong but also gentle. We don't want you to use that strength against us. We want a man who's strong and who will fight for us, but who will not fight us. We need a man who will fight the whole world. But when you're dealing with us, we need open, loving arms of gentleness. A woman has to. We need to feel that safety and security that. My husband's not going to fight me, but he'll fight for me.
And never take your flaws or weaknesses and use them as a weapon, but try to find them as ministry places where he needs.
So dangerous for man to. To talk down to a woman and to scream at a woman and to bully a woman. You know, we're supposed to be your. Your treasure, your prize, your. Your treasured gentle gift that you take care of. You don't harm them, you don't. You don't hurt them, you don't bully them, you don't manipulate them. And I think when we know that our husband will fight everybody, but he will not fight us. Oh, I mean, we could just fall into you on that.
Okay, let me ask you a question. This is turning out to be an interview with you because I'm getting intrigued here. You as a personality, you're strong as garlic. You are a strong personality.
I am.
You are. And people would probably look at that. A man would probably look at that. And people with that type of personality say, whoa, I bet she had to be something to be tamed. I bet she. The fact is you can be a strong, strong woman and still be a submissive woman.
Oh, yeah, absolutely.
What allows you to feel like, I get to execute my strength, but I'm never trying. I'm never trying to break the protocols that God has set up in the house.
I think it's because you are not intimidated by me. You know who you are. You are a secure man in yourself, and you let me fly. You're not intimidated by my strength. You know, that's how God made me and what God's called me to be. And you let me fly.
And you're insecurity would sabotage that.
Yes, it would be. It'd be hard for an insecure man to be married to a strong woman, be very difficult, because he would always want to try to keep her under his thumb and not let her be great. And I think it's easy for me to know I'm strong, but I always pipe down when it comes under you.
You're very submissive. Here's the way our marriage works. You will let me know where you stand?
I do.
You let me know where you stand. And you have the ability to state that very strongly if you feel like you need to. But you have never fought me on decisions, really. And when I failed, when I didn't listen to you and something happened that you thought was going to happen, you never really came back around and spanked me because of it. You know, you're just like, next time, let's maybe look at it different. Let's talk at it a little bit more. I appreciate that. But I will say this. You're saying good things about me. I'm going to say it back. Even in our decision to move to the and expand to the West Coast, Hope I don't know that people know how big that was.
That was massive.
That's a massive move. If you're moving from. If you're getting through with college and.
People do that, period.
But it was all the responsibilities we had that were all blessings from God. They were all God's. They were none of them. They were all good. That move. And what a lot of people don't know is, I don't know if we ever shared on our podcast, but one of the ways I wanted to create wealth is I didn't want to depend on a church check. Yeah, I don't want to be that guy. So I always told you at a very young age, if you would let me use real estate and our houses as a wealth builder, I did tell you, by age 50, I'll let you build whatever you want. I made that commitment to you like, 15, 20 years ago. So about every. We would get houses. We get them out of foreclosure, we get troubled, distressed properties. I can't tell You. I got properties. Sometime it took me a year of legal work to clear up stuff. But I got them at pennies on the dollar, 30, 40, 50 cent on the dollar. And we would live in them five years, make the corrections that need to be made and turn around and hope a lot of times we'd make a lot of money. We'd make a lot of money. But I told you, I said, don't get sentimentally attached. I said, if you don't get sentimentally attached, 50, I'll let you build whatever you want. Well, right when we got the opportunity to expand west, they were pouring the footers on your dream home.
Right.
So I remember a little bit of when the decision in me, I felt like God was bringing resolution, that it was something in our future that we were going to have to do. And I mean, I didn't even know how do you pull off a 2200 mile move and how do you work out all this stuff? I didn't know. But I remember a little bit of dread talking to you about it. Not a lot. And I remember you had, you looked at me and it didn't take you five seconds to respond. You said, I'm going where you're going. You might not have liked it on the inside, I don't know.
Well, I did. I wasn't mad at you. I was just like, God, how could.
Don't seem right.
Yeah, it seems weird that you would give us this blessing. We've got concrete in the ground, but now you're asking us to move. How. How are you, God going to reconcile that?
Well, you talked to God about that because you didn't talk to me much about it.
No, I did, I did. I talked to God and I said, how are you going to reconcile this? And I really felt like God said, it's an Isaac situation. Oh, are you willing to lay it down?
Oh, that's good.
Are you willing to lay it down? Not necessarily. That he. That he was going to take it?
Yeah, yeah, we thought we were going to have to.
And I did and I laid it down. I said, yes, God, I'll lay it down. I mean, houses, jewelry, cars, what is that? That's nothing. I want to do what you want me to do, God. And so we moved. And then God turned around and let me keep. Was just how he. The transition of events.
It was a miracle.
He wanted to see if I was willing to lay it down.
But he didn't take it from you. But he wanted to test your heart because you literally. I had nothing to do with that house. She drew that house from the ground up down to the cabinet knobs. She drew every single bit of it. I had nothing to do with it. So it was literally her building her dream home. And bam, we're going to expand. We're moving west. And you submitted to that. Let me tell you another thing. We did a marriage conference, a small mini conference in Phoenix before we were going on to our vacation, and we shared some things. And the people we were with there, who are our good friends, they told us, afterwards we went to have dinner, they said, man, you really challenged us tonight that in certain cultures, it's just not like that. But I talked about the, you know, men say, you know, I'm the head of the house. I'm the head of the house. I'm the head of the house. That may not be as much anymore a national thing. It may be more of a southern thing. I think nationally, some of that has mellowed out. But I'm the head of the house. Okay, he's right. But I always say this verse, how did Jesus obtain headship? Jesus is head of the church. The Bible says the man is the wife, the husband is the head of the woman, just as Jesus is the head of the church. So there's a striking parallel. If you want to be in headship, here's how you get there.
Here's your example.
And the Bible says Jesus was obedient unto death, even death on a cross. Therefore, God highly exalted him, highly exalted him, him, head above all things, and gave him a name above every name. So in other words, the pathway to headship was through dying to yourself. Jesus died in order that he may obtain headship. And then I said this. I said, the man is the most crucified one in the house. And this may not be 100% true, but it is moderately true. And I looked and told the crowd, I said, I'm going to be honest with you guys. She comes first. She comes first. And that really challenged a subservient wife mindset that I am put here to do whatever he asked me to do. I don't know that that's as biblical as it is traditional.
I agree.
I think it's traditional. I believe God mutually submission, Ephesians 5:21, submitting to one another and the fear of God. I believe God wanted man and woman to do things together. Not the woman served the man. So I tell people, you know, I try to let hope to decide what do you want to eat? And if you don't have a decision, then I'll make one. I said in all things you do.
You always prefer me.
I try to let her have the preeminence. And here again, is that a difference maker to you?
Yes, it is. It makes me feel value. Not that I deserve it or that that should be my place to make the decision, but that you preferred me. That it came from a heart posture of you preferring me.
And since we're real raw and relevant, that goes all the way into the. In the. In the bedroom. Yeah, that goes. Men can be extremely selfish in the bedroom experience. And I've always said not just women come first. Opening the door or getting to choose where to go or where we're going on vacation or what we're going to eat. It's women are first. And make sure when you go into.
That experience wanting to please her.
Right guys? That is so good. Say that again.
Go into that experience wanting to please her and not wanting to be pleased.
Not wanting to be pleased. That's difficult for maleness because men are releasers by nature.
Men are just. They're in that experience and they are looking for that release. But if you go into it knowing that her body's different, it takes her longer. She is the crock, potcher, the microwave men. And you've got to go into that experience wanting, making sure because you love her so much, you're going to figure out and do whatever it takes.
And there's a range of emotions that you experience, There's a range of feelings that you experience. I've always told people the true embodiment marital sex is the man does go in for release. But the woman usually wants uniqueness. Yeah, the woman usually wants to feel special. There's nobody like me. There's nobody that can make you feel this way.
That's right.
There's nobody that you'll look at like you're looking at me right now. That runs deep in the waters of a woman. And so to be the head, you've got to learn to die. So some things that are important, always having a vision, never be ruled by what's happening at the moment. Another thing is a man that allows you to have your strength. And they're strong, but they're gentle. And then the third one is I just talked about. It's easy to submit to a man who always prefers somebody else over himself.
So easy.
Is there any other? You know, we've already been on here almost over two thirds of our time.
You just like me talking about all the wonderful things about it.
Can be a quality that maybe I'm developing. I don't want you to hurt my feelings in front of everybody. You done made me cry one time for good reasons. But, you know, I don't possess all the biblical qualities of manhood, but I do pursue them. I do pursue them.
I think it's easy to submit to a man who, you know, has a relationship with God. That's kind of. I talked about that with the first one. But if. I know. There's so many times, Ron, over the years, 33 years we've been married, where we couldn't reach a resolution, or you made me so angry, or you. And then you would come back and say, well, I'm gonna have to go to God and pray about this. Do you remember those times? You say, well, I'll just go to God. I just gotta go to God. And that made me feel so safe, because if you weren't gonna listen to me, I knew you would listen to God. If Ron Carpenter's not gonna listen to a man or a woman, I knew that you would pursue God and you would listen to God. And that made me feel very safe.
I remember one time, years ago in Greenville, not long after we built that largest.
But I wish you'd listen to me.
True. I'm getting better. I'm getting better. I remember this happening. We were going in many different ways. You know, people know some of our story. They don't know all of our stories. There was a. Not only maritally were we fighting a lot of things, but there was a lot of things really coming against us. I'll tell you, there was the season where it felt like there was literally onslaught, just a tsunami released against our life. Just almost at the point, like, you can't make this stuff up.
There's seasons like that.
Yeah, you just can't make this stuff up. May we never have another one like that. That was brutal.
And in a tsunami, in a storm, what do you do? You just hit the deck and you hold on. You just have to hold on through it.
There was a lot of problems with the church. There was the facing of bankruptcy.
Our marriage.
There was a marriage, especially at one time. Our oldest son was really struggling, our middle son struggling in different ways. Our daughter coming of age. And it was a lot going on. I think there was the end of an investigation that had just wrung me out and cost us about all of our finances. There was a lot. And it was all at one time. I've heard people that know the story say any one of them could have took y' all out, and it was three or four. And I remember when I would be so overwhelmed, I would just disappear. And that campus was 20.2 acres and seven buildings and 250,000 square feet. And when nobody could find me, they would call you. And you say, I know where he is.
He's in the sanctuary praying.
And I remember you would come through the doors, and you would come in there and tap me.
I'd say, ron, where are you?
And I was in one of them pews.
Yep.
I was back there praying.
So you always knew where to go.
How important. How? You said you felt safe. You said it makes you feel valued. How important is that to a woman? Not to hope to a woman?
Oh, we have to feel it. We have to feel safe. We need to feel valued.
So security really is a big deal.
Huge. Security's huge for a woman. Huge. It's One of the 10 emotional needs that have to be filled. But we, as a woman, under. I'm under you. I know that it comes to you before it comes to me. So I've got to feel safe that you've got me, that you got our kids, that you got these bills, that you. That you go to God, that you got a word, that you got a vision. I have to feel safe.
So your role, or it makes us.
Feel like, I'll do this myself, I got to take care of myself, then.
That'S a role reversal. And that's what took Adam and Eve down.
Absolutely.
As long as Adam was feeding Eve, they were all right. When Eve started feeding Adam sin, the whole world fell.
Yep. Woo. That's a word.
And so we got to watch out for all this role reversal and identity changes.
Come on, now.
Because I'm telling you, God has set up protocols, and those protocols are not meant to be broken.
I'll tell you now.
They're meant to be blessed.
I like to be taken care of. I'm not one of them women.
Told some women the other way.
I am not one of those women who's like, oh, I'm. I'm all that in a bag of chips. I'm a boss. I don't need a man bs. I do. I like it. Take care of me. Mm. Rub my back. Run my bath water. Just do it all. Just come on. I love it. I love it. I love it.
And I don't do those things all the time, but I do all those things you name and enjoy doing them. The Bible calls you a helper. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit is a helper. He said the word paraclete. God told Adam that Eve would be his helper. The Hebrew word there is the parallel word to the Greek word paraclete. So you are to be to me exactly what the Holy Spirit is. You are to be a helper. I've always made this statement that when I say help, two people need to come running. The Holy Spirit and my wife. So good men help you do what? You can't help somebody do nothing. So he who does not have a vision for his household, a woman, is designed to help you build.
Yes, we want to help you.
You'll have to figure out function. You'll have to figure out roles. Those things will have to be hashed out. But point the way, I've never done anything where you didn't want to help me do it right. You're helping me do it right now.
Yeah.
You know, we do our TV glues together.
Write a vision down, make it plain.
So that those who read it may run.
Yes, I'm trying to run with you.
I'm trying to run with, like, I.
Don'T know where we going.
And if you ever say. You ever heard a wife say we're just not on the same page? Yes, because she don't know where he's running. See, she don't know where he's running. Either she's rebellious or either she don't know where he's running. Because our bishop, Jake, say one time, she said, you know, the woman's a sleeper. She ain't supposed to help you sleep. I mean, you know, what are you motivated to do? What are you trying to build? What kind of life do you want for your family? Let her help you build that. That's really her assignment. She's built to do that, to come alongside me. I don't want you to do it, but I want you to help me do it right. We were just talking about, you know, our world is so really complicated right now that we were trying to make sure that all of our bases were taken care of and also do this missions trip we're about to do. Yeah. And then I said, well, I'm supposed to be on the east coast that week, preaching at the east coast thing. I can't do both. And you said, I got it.
That's right.
I mean, I. I'm a helper. I didn't even have to. I got it.
We're a pretty good team.
But, you know, I'm talking. But here, again, do you know what that does? Do you know what that does for me? Because there's nobody that's going to be representing me. You are my glory. There's nobody that's going to represent Ron Carpenter any greater than Ho Carpenter. There's nobody that's going to represent you any greater than me. So when you're standing in that pulpit, we're standing in that pulpit.
Right?
We did it together. You have to have some type of vision. You have to have some type of thought process. A picture of tomorrow for a wife to come alongside. I think that's the beautiful thing about getting married.
Yeah.
I think people getting.
They get married for a lot of the wrong reasons.
Yes. Physical attraction and all this and that and other. But you and I dated three years, Hope. And do you just remember how much we would go park and not kiss?
Oh, but we kissed a lot.
We kissed. Do you know how much we park and dream, drink, dream.
Oh, I was about to say we didn't drink.
No, we didn't drink.
We'd have been thrown out of school.
We'd have been thrown out of school. Burned up and incinerated and in hell. But we did heart kids and dreamed we would talk.
Talk about our future.
Dream about what our kids would look like. Dream about what we want to do together. Dream about what we had seen in church, what we did like, what we didn't like, what we thought we could do. We talked about it all the time. And when we got married, we started building.
That's all visionary. Visionary men, we need you to have a vision. And please don't stay stuck in the past. Men, stop dragging your woman in the past. Accusing her and holding her past against her and making her stay bound and trying to live up to X, Y and Z. Pull her forward, let her soar. Let her be great beside you.
I know where to end. That's great. I don't think we've shared this here. I remember talking about it. I'm not sure if it's on daystar. We've talked about it one time. Most people know you've trumpeted Lee and Denise Boggs and living waters everywhere. But at that time, Bishop Jake stepped in and made a connection when we were separated with a place called Blessings Ranch. I think they've moved.
They did move to Florida.
I think they've moved to Florida. They were in Colorado on a ranch. And when, I mean out in a ranch, I mean out in the middle of nowhere, all I remember it was driving in the snow at 2 o' clock in the morning and I saw a sign said 69 miles to Cheyenne, Wyoming. So we were in Colorado City.
We were in the middle of nowhere.
Yeah, it was out in the middle of nowhere. Gorgeous Ranch. And it was just intensive day tonight in a house. And it was counsel, and it was cerebral, and it was cognitive, and it was counsel. And it was counsel. We're going to be back in a minute. We're going to do. And we're going to talk about unpacking your pain. And all of it was great. And I love the people at Blessing Ranch. We had a great week there. But I don't know if you remember about the third or fourth day, I walked in and I said, I can't do this no more.
Yeah. Can't talk about pain all the time.
I can't do this no more. I said, I need to take my wife out today. I said, where is a nearby town? It was Junction something. Junction is a college. Junction. Grand Junction is a college town where Colorado State is cold. I remember all the fountains were ice that was frozen. You remember? It was so cold. And I looked. I said, I gotta go dream.
You said, I feel like we're stuck in our pain and we're stuck in the past, and the only way to get out of it is if we can look at the future and try to build a better future.
And I said, I gotta take my wife's hand. We're gonna have to go walk in the snow. And I said, I don't care if we go to a cafe and eat a hot dog. I've got to get out of here, and I gotta go dream again. And that's where your mind does two things. Hope it remembers and it imagines.
It imagines.
And you have to give your imagination something so powerful that it overpowers you. It overpowers the pain of your past and pulls you out of the doldrums of it. And I remember that day when you said, don't drag them through their past. And that's. What's. That? Psalm 123 said, when we came out of exile, we came out of our captivity, we were like those who dream. And, you know, you and I had been captive by our pain, and it had been lasting a long time. And I just said, you know what? How are we going to get out? And I remember the counselor sat back and like, wow. In other words, she blessed it. There was a woman that day. She blessed it and said, that's, like the best news I've heard.
Yeah.
I'm like, I can't talk about this anymore. Yeah, I got to go see something. I got to see a picture of me and my wife tomorrow. What are we going to look like in 10 years? I need to look at that. And so I would just encourage you guys. We give you about four principles. The ability to be a visionary. The ability to let your wife's strength shine. The ability to be somebody they can submit to by being the most crucified one in the house. And then understanding whatever is in your heart, making it plain so they can run and help with you. Those are qualities that are important. So that's a man that's easy to submit to.
It sure is.
And a lot more.
And you know what? I'm so glad I got one.
Well, I'm glad you're here, too. And I just turned 55.
Yep. Let's go have a birthday party.
We love you guys. We've been on here a little bit, a half hour. Thank you so much for being on these programs. I hope they help you. Look, I need you to download, I need you. However, whatever platform you're watching us, I need you to subscribe. Yeah, this means a lot.
We don't listen. We're not just saying that.
Every podcast I listen to, they sit there and take about five minutes and tell people, say, hit like button. Here's the instructions. You know, because it messes with the algorithm. What does that mean?
It helps us.
That means it's going to put us on more people's computer screen. Yes, that's what that means.
So don't just listen.
Download, subscribe, download. Like it, like it. Do all those things. Because there is a computerized algorithm and it begins to push ours to the top. And you have no idea who this may fall right on their screen. Who said, that is exactly what I needed and your light helped put it there.
And I have a women's conference right, right around the corner in September. Go to Hope carpenter on both coast.com on both coast events and it's called Untangled. It will be in Greenville, South Carolina, and in San Jose, California. It's just a one day on Saturday from 9:00 o' clock to 2:00'. Clock. And everybody needs to come. Bring your girlfriends, bring, bring your aunt, bring your mama family, bring them, bring everybody, everybody. We want to see you at Untangled.
