Spiritual Warfare vs Natural Consequences | Ron + Hope: Unfiltered

This is a transcript of a Ron & Hope Carpenter YouTube episode (Unfiltered) where they move from light opening banter and a Bora Bora travel story into a substantive discussion about how to tell natural consequences from spiritual attacks. Ron outlines a triage: (1) problems from the flesh/sowing and reaping (natural consequence), (2) ordinary fallen-world deterioration, and (3) demonic attacks (characterized by inordinate or uncommon patterns). They give diagnostic cues (examine your seed/words/decisions, look for inordinate or repeated targeting, attacks on seed/greatness/anointing) and practical responses (self-examination, prayer/praise, bringing the blood/anointing, endurance). The episode closes with ministry promos.

Foreign.
Hello, everybody. It's Ron and Hope. Unfiltered, real raw, relevant. Just looking at you. You don't have your cup today. You don't know how to act. Ron.
What?
You got a hair like an old man hair right there sticking out. I just saw it.
Need to take you better care of me. I mean, is it visible on camera?
Is it visible on camera? I don't know, but it's visible to me.
Must not have been bad if you had just not seen it. It's blonde under the lights. It's blonde. I'm blonde.
I was getting a pedicure yesterday. It just reminded me of the man doing my pedicure. I looked down at him and his head was down doing feet. And he had glasses on and he had eyebrows coming out the top. Ron. They were probably, no joke, three inches long.
And does that make you thankful?
Coming out of the top of his glasses?
That make you thankful?
Yes, but I don't like the baby trajectory.
This right here, this is of this one. This is minuscule compared to what you're talking about.
I know, but you gotta deal with that. So we don't get.
Maybe I do. I'm very well groomed.
You are well groomed.
I'm very well groomed. Take care of myself. Why don't you show people this? What yours? What yours?
Oh, my thumb. I'll show you. I'm fixing it today.
So you're talking about my lash.
It's a brow. It's not a lash.
A brow. And you got that. You got the ghetto on.
It's men in there, like old man hairs that I just cannot handle. The ears, the nose.
That's not old men, baby.
The hairs that come up out of their shirt in the back. That is disgusting. They don't know it.
They don't. Hair come out of my shirt in the back.
I haven't.
Nope.
I've never had to groom you.
No.
No, never. Okay.
No.
I've never had to cut a hair.
Out of your ear. I've shaved your back a couple times.
Oh, have you?
But I've never. You've never had to shave mine. I got a little thing that does my ear.
It's the getting old stuff.
Why? What is it that makes hair want to stop growing on a person's head and start growing in their ear?
So nasty.
What is going on with that?
Don't know. Our bodies just get confused when we get older.
We're doing a little tired. Do we look like we got a tan? Podcast land. We look like we got A little bit of tan. We went to Bora Bora. That has been. I don't like seeing bucket list. That's morbid. I don't like saying that. It's just one of the places where I always said if we got a chance, we wanted to go. And now that we're in our second year of being an empty nester, we kind of taking some of those trips that maybe when we had more responsibilities we wouldn't take.
And we got a good deal on Costco Travel.
You did?
I didn't know Costco did travel and they're not a sponsor, but I will plug them. We got an amazing deal on Costco Travel.
Well, for Bora Bora, if you call that a deal. I called it a lot of money. But anyway, it was about half of what we would hate to see what a normal would have cost. But anyway, I was informed earlier that I would be taking Hope on her birthday to Bora Bora. And for those of y', all, we're not plugging or down in Bora Bora. That was a. Especially coming back. That was a hard trip.
It was hard.
That was a hard trip because it's.
Way, way, way, way, way far away.
This place is amazing. The overwater bungalows. It's everything that you see in the pictures. It really is the water. I've been all over the Caribbean. I've been to the Pacific. I've been to Hawaii. I've been all over the place. I've never seen anything.
It was pretty spectacular where you In.
A boat, 100 foot deep water and.
You can look far down.
Yeah. Dasani. I mean, and all kind of crazy. Little fish swimming everywhere. Yellow, orange, purple.
Beautiful, beautiful.
You know, it really is crazy. You can go right down under your house and just swim or get on floatness about this high. And you don't, you know, you're not sketched out by all those ocean water critters because you can see everything. And so that was really, really cool. But I don't know that people realize how far down that was. Nine hours. Tahiti. That was nine hours from the west coast.
Yes.
That's what, two hours from the Philippines.
It was a long way.
And four hours from Japan. It was a long way. And so number one, I don't like being on a plane. Four hours when I go across country is about driving me nuts. And so we were on that. And then when you get there, it's boat. It's two or three planes and then a boat to get there and luggage and all that. And then it's a very small, primitive island, to be honest with you, and resort and so. And I've always told people always told me who have gone, and I'm going to echo their thoughts. If you go in there, you better like who you're there with because there is nothing, and I mean nothing else to do but be with that person. And since I really.
And that was great.
Since I really like who I went with, that was good. But if you kind of, I don't know, we're fighting or we're not in a good place. I don't know that. I don't know that Bora Bora is a trip.
Don't go there to rekindle.
Yeah, I don't know that Bora Bora is a trip because it's. And I told you, you know what? I'm mellowed, am I not? I'm mellow. More mellow than I've ever been.
You are.
I did used to, you know, go somewhere and everything that was there to do, I wanted to do it. Everything. It wasn't the kids wanting to go to Water Slide. I wanted to go to Water Slide.
Yes, we know.
So. But, you know, I'm a little bit mellow now, but would you not be honest? I need maybe a little bit of entertainment or something.
I mean, maybe at dinner, have something.
I mean, we ate dinner and it's nothing. I mean, it's just nothing. And I mean, you know, so it's just quiet. We're like walking around.
We did take naps every day, which was great.
Yeah. I'm not used to that at all. But I mean, you know, it's. If you want to come way down. Wonderful place. Beautiful, wonderful people.
Took us three days to get home.
Yep. Yeah, three days. We had plane canceled in the middle of the night and then that was rough.
Yeah. And there's nowhere to go because your plane is cancelled and there's no other plane.
And the airport was locked down, there's no taxis and the few little hotels, it was rough, were booked. So people just standing.
So then they rerouted us at 4:30am to Seattle, which we were not going to Seattle.
And we just so wore out Seattle. We just spent the night because we were just so wore out and flew in all day Monday. And here we are on the East Coast. We're going to be here this week and we're coming to our podcast out of that. And the story doesn't have anything to do with that. But you said you want to talk about when you're under attack.
Yeah.
That's a broad subject.
It is. Well, it's mainly because it's hard to.
Do in a 30 minute podcast we landed.
We have people texting us, we have issues, we have sickness, we have just. It feels like there's a lot of attack right now. And I feel like we need to talk about it because, you know, a lot of people preach and say if you're a believer, if you're a person of faith, that none of this should ever happen to you.
You gotta diagnose the origin of a thing. And I wanna talk about that first. But I mean, you're talking about stuff right here that, you know, I mean, you could be talking about in 10 or 15 messages on Sunday. So it's hard to.
So there's a lot of questions.
Break it all down, you know, I.
Mean, some of it's just life, some of it's just sometime. Washing machine just breaks.
Now. I want to respond to that. There's no spirit of washing machine.
No.
Okay. I came from a school of thought that everything negative in my life had demonic origin. I don't know that my dad taught that, but the church culture, denomination that I was brought up in, if it's negative, carry you down to the altar. And we fight the devil. Okay?
Always fighting the devil.
Do you fight the devil? And that was when I was a listener. I was not a reader, I was not a studier. I had very little relationship with God of my own. So I just. What I knew is what people told me. And here again, every time I bring up something negative about my heritage spiritually, I want you to know these are wonderful people. And I don't know that I would trade places with anybody because a lot of the good they taught me has stayed with me forever. I have a lot of boundaries and convictions that run deep in me that came from that culture that I am grateful for having said that everything, you know, everything had to be cast out or broken because it was always a demon. There was no. I live in a fallen world in its life, right? There was no law of deteriorations. You know, breaks go out and dishwashers quit running.
And people get on your nerves.
Yeah, people get on your nerves. Nobody ever taught me about the flesh. So when you try to define the origin of a thing, here's the way I look at it. The Bible tells me there's sowing and reaping. The Bible tells me that there's the power of my words. They that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. So I can be living Negatively. Because I've spoke negatively. The fact is, I live in a world of sin where things are fallen. So is there our bodies get sick.
Because we're not living in needed flu, right? But there is a spirit.
There's a spirit of infirmities. Now that's what I want to talk about. We live in a fallen world that all around us we are dealing with things that are anti Christ, anti anointing, anti God, anti kingdom. And we are surrounded with it all the time. And that's why it has to be greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. What you have in you has to be greater than what's around you. Because what's around you doesn't line up.
No.
Okay, so I've always in my mind, the way I separated after reading my Bible. There's some things that are my flesh. There are 25 works of the flesh in Galatians 5, 25. I mean, they're all negative. And none of them have demonic origin.
No, they're all flesh.
They originate in the flesh.
They're me, they're my church.
And the Bible lets me know that if I do not manage my flesh, that all of these 25 categories of negative responses will be my ultimate result. And none of them are attractive, right? None of them. I mean, I blew me away. Sorcery, the work of the flesh, divination and sorcery. I mean, in other words, there's some really degenerate stuff. If I just turn Ron loose, if.
I just do whatever I want to.
Do, just turn Ron loose, You know, the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, the pride of life. The Bible says that those three are working against the anointing. Those things are contrary to the spirit. The spirit is contrary to those things. So I have to understand, okay, there's these negative things that happen because of the flesh. There's this category of negative things that happen. Just because I'm living in a world of sin, death set in, deterioration set in, and I live in that world. Then you got this third category, the demonic. The way I look at it in the Bible is it's demonic when it is, okay, Ah, thank youk, Holy Ghost. The parable. The wheat and the tares, they grow together. Guy went to sleep, came up the next morning, there were tares with the wheat. The workers of the field said, an enemy has done this. Okay? The guy who owned the field said, I didn't sow for this. When you examine your life and there is no seed whatsoever that could have produced that out of your mind? No.
You didn't speak to him. That's demonic, you know, Your words have not sown that. Your actions have not sown that.
So the Bible says, first thing is examine yourself. What is that, Hosea? I think it's the Book of Hosea. He says, examine your ways. So I've come up on. I come up one morning and I got this bad with my good. That's kind of the way life happens. It's hard to have it all bad or all good. You usually have mixture.
You couldn't handle it otherwise.
Yeah, so I got wheat, but I got tares with my wheat. So he looks at it and says, I didn't sow for this. And I actually preached that on New Year's one year for a New Year's Eve sermon. I didn't sow for this. And then the people behind him said, and the enemy did this. So he said, I didn't put seed in the ground for Tares. The first thing you got to do when your life is under some type of duress or difficulty, that does not seem normal. There are things that are just common to man. The tire goes flat, you forgot to pay a bill, they're going to ruin your credit. I mean, it's just common to man.
Yeah.
When it seems uncommon, I think you need to examine your waist.
Especially when it's back to back to back to back to back.
Well, that was. The next thing I was going to go was, you know, if it's an inordinate amount, but if it's uncommon, you have to examine your ways. Did I talk this into existence? Did I decide this into existence? Have I sown some type of seed somewhere in my life that could have brought me this outcome? You need to be honest with yourself. Because if it is a harvest from a seed, it can change if you change the seed.
But it takes time.
Right. You gotta have the grace to deal with your harvest.
You sure do.
And you gotta be changing the seed to make sure that it doesn't.
While you're going through the tough times, you're changing your seed to produce a different harvest.
Exactly right. So those of you out there, you know, if you say man, I mean, we are under. We are under severe attack. We're under stress like we never have been. Okay. Did I sow for this? Words, decisions, offerings. So you didn't give an offering for it? So did you make a decision that that is the outcome? Did you say something that that is your outcome? If you get to the place I Like the guy with the wheat and tares. I didn't sow for this. Then you go to the next. An enemy has done this.
Like for instance, I wanted to give an example. I hear people say, we can't ever get ahead. You ever hear that? We can't ever get ahead. We just. Man, we run out of money and we can't ever. And then we sit down with them and I'm like, number one question, what do we ask? Are you tithing? Well, no, because we can't ever get ahead. I'm like, I can't help you.
Okay, well, you sowed for this.
Because you sowed for this.
The Bible says the devourer is not rebuke. The devourer is her seed, either. Seeds, money.
Right.
So you know, Right there. Right there. Yeah, you sowed for it.
And so we can't counsel anymore. We can't help you.
But now here's the thing. On any level, but they come up to the altar and say, the devil's attacking my finances.
No, he's not. You're attacking my finances.
Devil's not attacking your finances. It's called a curse, right, Pastor? Don't tell me that it's called a.
Curse that you put on yourself.
Yes. The obedience brings the blessing. The disobedience brings the curse. The blessing is built into the obedience. The curse is built into the disobedience.
Being mad about it's not going to change it. Being resentful about it, it's not going to. Hating on other people who are blessed is not going to change it. You're just perpetuating your season.
And there are many principles in the Bible about management. They're management principles. Number two, are you managing your resources well?
Right.
I see some people, they got plenty of money coming in.
They just blow up.
They just can't control the way it's going out. Some of you, you don't have the woman with the issue of. You have the issue of money. What was her issue? She's hemorrhaging, she's leaking. You don't have an income problem. You have a leak problem. And it's going out in ways in which it's being mismanaged.
Amazon problem and a doordash problem.
I don't have no money. And you got six bags on your steps when you get home. You know, here, again, the devil's not attacking your finances. Jeff Bezos. And Amazon is attacking your finances. And so you're going to have to adjust that.
Sue Paul, Billy, Hope, Ron. We attacked our own.
The the time Hope, where we self reported. Okay. Self reported to the irs, one of our C Corps, where our aging accountant didn't pay. And we got. We self reported out of the. Out of character.
Right.
I want to do the right thing. I called him. I owe this. Let me clear it up. Thank you, Mr. Carpenter. Well, they turned around.
Let us get back to you.
A year later, they turned around. And eight years later, eight years later, it was 20 times. That was an attack.
Yes.
And we knew it was an attack by some of the comments we got, because anytime hail comes in, it's from a gate of hell or heaven comes in from window of heaven. So it's a person. And the comments that were given there. There was intention to take something menial and small and drown us. And so we realize we're not fighting flesh and blood, so we've got to engage it. Not just, you know, when it's in the shop. Yeah. You can feel it. You can feel it.
You can feel the spiritual heaviness and the panic and the.
Because we didn't. So for that, no, we had. I mean, we had accountants, we'd taken care of everything. He was getting older. He missed on a thing. We self reported out of character. And I mean, there was this turnaround. And then another way, you know, it's demonic when it's maybe something common to man, but an inordinate amount.
Yeah.
I told my son and his wife, my oldest son, his wife, that I've never seen so much sickness. I mean, to tell you, every time we come to the east coast for.
Eight weeks, somebody in their family spent.
Sickness, it's probably Thanksgiving. I mean, they can't hardly even work. They can't get out of the house. And they're a family of five. And it gets through with one. And it almost like starts over and it runs its way for two weeks through the whole family. Then something starts over. And I finally, this morning, I said, this is an attack. This is no longer. This is no longer, you know, a sinus infection or chest infection or flu. This is an attack. And so then you start bringing the blood into it. You start bringing the anointing into it. And then I walked into staff meeting this morning and said, there's half my staff is out because of sickness. I said, this is not normal.
No.
I had to shut this office down one day for sickness. This is not normal. And so we came against spiritually. We didn't come against doing Tylenol.
We had to shut down offices of people who live under the protection and promises Of God.
Exactly right. That's not normal. We believe in the blood, we believe in the covering. We believe in the hedge. We believe in these things. And then I got to shut down offices because so many of my people are hit. I don't even have enough to come to office. That is the enemy spitting in the face of your faith.
Yeah, it is.
And so that is when you know you're under attack. So when it's a fight that is uncommon. Okay. There's some people that are just going through stuff and they think they're the only person in the world going through it. You know, my kids drive me crazy. Well, everybody's kids. Millions of parents in America, the kids about to drive them crazy. But that's common to man. When you hit something uncommon or when you hit something in an inordinate amount, I can't say that it's automatic, but I can tell you I would lean to the fact there is some demonic activity involved.
What about Ron? Do you believe? Because I do believe this. I believe that the Lord also tests us. It's not just sometimes what we say, that we've brought something in our life or it's a spiritual attack. Sometimes I believe being a good daddy, sometimes we're being punished. Sometimes we're being tested.
Let me say this.
And we blame it on the enemy.
I do believe that. But I don't believe tests or sicknesses. Because the Bible says he was wounded for our transgression, bruised for our iniquities, and by his stripes were healed. I don't think he would give me something that he went to the cross to take away. So I don't know that I'm tested with a sickness. I think Jesus bore the pain of our sicknesses.
I didn't say sickness.
Yeah.
That's why I said, do you think some things through?
I do believe there are times, the book of Job teaches us, where God removes the covering and he. He actually brought Job up. I think I told him a couple of Sundays ago, wasn't it? Yeah, two Sundays ago I was reading out of Job and I said, you know, I want to make God proud, but I hope God never brings me up and says, won't you just try running?
I think he already did.
Won't you try running?
I think he did years ago, about 10, 15 years ago.
And I don't want to be.
But, you know, you run your race. You keep running. Romans 12. You run your race, but you run it with endurance. And endurance indicates. Indicates hardship, hardship and pressure. You keep running.
We're Hard pressed on every side pressed.
And you have to endure. But so many times I see so many Christians who want to throw their hands up when anything gets heavy or anything gets hard. And that is not how we are told to run our race.
I believe there are times where a testing may come with God lifting a grace, allowing an access that would normally not be allowed. I do think the Bible supports that. I'm not a scholar. I keep reminding people that I'm not a scholar. But what I read of the Bible, I think I could support that.
Well, test time in the natural is hard, right? In any grade, any exit exam, test time is hard. We dread it. We don't want to do it. But test time is also where you get promotion.
So the Bible is full of, you know, they persecuted you, they persecuted me, they're going to persecute you. Blessed are you when men revile you, speak all manner of evil against you falsely for my name's sake. The Bible is full of we are hard pressed on every side, yet not struck down. And though our outward man is perishing, our inward man is being renewed day by day. These light and momentary afflictions are working for me apart. You know the Bible is full, you know, those who endure to the end shall be saved. Run your race with endurance. So I'm hard pressed and I got to endure and don't grow weary in well doing. All the indication is there is a headwind in my face always. Okay. I think a lot of that headwind is trying to operate in the kingdom in a world of Antichrist.
That's so good. Trying to bring the kingdom to earth.
I'm trying to operate in Christ. Ephesians, the whole book of Ephesians is a book of in Christ. I'm trying to operate in Christ in a world. The Bible says the spirit of Antichrist is already here. Yes, it's already here. The man, the Antichrist, we don't know if he's been revealed yet or not. But the Bible says that the spirit of it is already here. So I am in a world where the spirit that is anti anointing is pressing me because I am pro anointing. And so in this earth you will have tribulation and the violent take it by force. So there is that conflict of hitting head on when I'm trying to do the God thing in the midst of an anti God environment. That's something that I don't see in the Bible where until the culmination of all things we're delivered, it's never over.
Yeah.
And all that's not demons.
No, it's just the two worlds colliding.
Two worlds colliding. It is a full.
And you're trying to keep your faith in the middle of pushing this kingdom of light into the kingdom of darkness.
Right. And so the Bible says we're sojourners, ambassadors here and our citizenship is in heaven. So you got to understand you're now of a culture of a different place. And so you're an oddball when you're in this world. And so trying to do the right thing in a culture that basically hates your God. That is where the endurance and the afflictions of life and the hard press comes in.
And the enemy knows just the natural things of life too. Just the sickness, just the bills, just all those things that. Because that's. That do not grow weary in well doing. I mean, you're trying to be a good father, you're trying to be a good mom, you're trying to have a great marriage, you're, you know, trying to get ahead in life. And it, life's just tough sometimes and it gets tiring.
Let me give you some keys to attack. We got a few more minutes here. Let me give you some keys to attack number one. The enemy usually tries to attack something in its seed form. He always attacks babies. He always attacked Moses, tried to take him out when he was a baby, tried to take Jesus out when he was a baby. So whether it be in the womb of a mother, whether it be at a small child trying in some way to defile or harm the child, the enemy tries to attack things in seed form so that they never get to the place where they bear fruit.
That's, that's that yoke yoking you when you're early, when you're young, so that when you're older, you take on the.
Life of the yoke.
Take on the life of the yoke.
So another thing is the enemy usually only attacks greatness. The enemy does not spend his time on anything that's not going anywhere.
Thieves don't come.
Exactly. Empty vaults. Exactly. Right. You never see, you see the person driving the Mercedes wanting to valet it, wanting to lock everything up, wanting to protect their possession. But the bag lady walking across the street, homeless, she can walk down the most dangerous street and nobody's going to fool with her. Why? She has nothing. So when you're under attack, that means you have something you need to take refuge. I'm not trying to preach in the fact that you're under attack. That means there's something valuable that the enemy knows that you may not even be aware of yourself. Because sometimes you're being attacked on this level and you're responding on this level because you see yourself here. But the enemy knows what you can't be.
Yeah, you're being attacked on the level of what you're supposed to be.
And so in your praise, you got to fight back on this level. In your prayer, you got to fight back on this level. Because sometimes your enemy knows who you are a whole lot better than you know who you are. Number three. A lot of times attack comes against a significant calling. Number four. It's just off the top of my head. Number four, you're usually attacked on the level of your anointing. So a great call usually, sometimes has great adversity and great opposition. And you need to know that. I wish somebody told me that earlier. I learned that the hard way. Another thing a key is these are just keys I want to throw out is study whatever it is in your life that is under constant attack because the enemy is showing his hand. Whatever he attacks, he attacks. He shows you what he fears.
So good.
That's one of the most powerful, powerful.
We have helped more marriages in our ministry. And that's where we were attacked.
Yep.
Helped so many people get free from childhood issues, from abuse. That's where we were attacked.
Yeah. And you know, if. So let me say, Pastor, define that. If your marriage, never your health, financially you're fine, but your marriage is under constant attack. You need to study that because that means there's something that you'll be together that you could never be apart.
That's right.
Okay, now let's go to. Let's say it's always the money. Got a great marriage, kids, love God. But financially, I mean, it is a fight, fight, fight. All your life, no matter what season of life you're in, it's a fight. Then the enemy knows there's something about a wealthy you that he's got to keep from happening. Or even you.
Not even wealthy, obedient you. Just that obedience to the word, that obedience to Lord. You can have all that I have. And if you haven't said that with your finances, how's he going to ask you to do something significant for the kingdom if you can't even do that first one with your pocketbook.
If you have a child that you know, children are children, but you got this one child that is just, just under tremendous attack, where it's almost gut wrenching as a parent.
Yeah.
To watch them, to watch Them go through it. You know, we. We had one of our children that were like that. And I remember my dad, you remember, I've always told you about my dad. My dad looked at this, our one child who was just going through, and it had turned him into an introvert.
This was Chad.
Kept his circle. Yeah, kept his circle small. Didn't have a lot of friends and kind of tied to our britches leg and never did a whole lot of things. And my dad, you know, looked at me one time, he said, keep your eye on that one. I'll never forget my dad doing that.
He said, that's the dark horse.
He said, keep your eye on that one.
He said, he'll come up from the background at the end.
He said, nobody sees him coming. He said, that's the one that's going to come up from the background. So what did my dad even know? It's the one who's under constant attack. The enemy's scared of something. I'm telling you, he's scared of something. And we used to tell Chaz that all the time. Chaz, the enemy fears you and God's going to give you victory in this battle. And God did. We've actually, in about a half hour, we've dumped out some stuff. Let me say it again. You're in a fallen world that comes with opposition. The seeds that you sow from your flesh. Go read Galatians 5. Starting at 25, you'll see the opposition it can bring. Then you have this out of nowhere. Where did this come from? That's usually attacked. Then it can be common things, but an inordinate amount of it, that can be an attack. And then the five different levels of things you need to understand that usually get some type of attack. All that I could prove in the Bible.
But you got to keep running.
This promise God has given.
