J C Novoa

J.C. Novoa led Accenture's AWS Business Group, a distributed team that built a contact-center portal, secured $1 million in AWS funding, and generated over $200 million in revenue. He credits trust and ownership, and says his strengths are connecting vision to execution and building low-politics teams. He's impatient with bureaucracy and tends to solve too much himself.

Hi there, I'm JC Novoa, and I've built and led some incredible teams across the enterprise and startup world, and I'm excited to share a few quick reflections with you. I've been asked to put this video together to help you get to know me better. In doing so, I will try to answer a few questions. Question number one: What was the best team that I worked with? And why. Hands down, one of the best teams that I worked with was at Accenture AWS Business Group. We were a globally distributed team, developers, architects, AI specialists across 8 different countries, and yet we moved like a startup. Why? Because we all shared a common vision and mission to build a unified agent portal to help companies shift their entire contact center operations to the cloud, remote, fast during COVID-19. We didn't just launch a product, we pursued and received funding from AWS to the tune of $1 million to build a contact center modernization platform that generated over $200 million in revenue and became the foundation for contact center modernization and go-to-market motions at Accenture. What made the team great? 3 things: trust, ownership, and alignment. Everyone knew their zone of genius, and we had the freedom and the pressure to execute at speed. And I loved every second of it, especially because I personally recruited and hired and mentored the team who ended up owning the future implementation of the platform once I exited. Question number 2: if I left a room, What will people say I'm really good at? I will say 3 things come up often. One, I connect vision to execution. I don't just talk strategy. I build MVPs, lead from the front, and scale ideas to real-world solutions to solve real-world problems. 2, I translate complexity into clarity. Whether it's a cloud architecture or an AI model, I can break it down for executives, engineers, and customers alike. 3, I create high-performance, low-politics teams. People feel empowered and supported. I remove blockers and let smart people thrive. Question number 3, if I left the room, what might people say I am not good at? Now for the honest part. 1, I get impatient with bureaucracy. I push for velocity and And don't do well with this is how we have always done it type of thinking. 2, I sometimes try to solve too much myself. All have it. I love building stuff, but I've learned to delegate and coach more over time. 3, I don't always stop to celebrate the small wins. I'm always scanning for what's next, so I've had to remind myself, pause, High five, reflect, it matters. Thanks for watching. I'll be thrilled to bring this energy and experience to Luminance and help build the next generation of legal tech powered by AI. Take care.
