Hi, I'm Jack Canfield, and today I'd like to talk to you about a principle that almost every successful leader that I know embraces and keeps on their mind at all times. It might be the single most important principle for leadership success. Today I have something very special in store for you. I know you're gonna love it, and I promise you it will take you from where you are to where you want to be. I'll discuss how to market your speaking and training business and help you identify opportunities and profitable niches you can focus on getting into. But first I have to ask you this. Have you identified who you truly want to be? You don't want to market yourself as the guru or niche industry expert only to find out a year later there's no interest in your work in that market. It's better to ask yourself, what does the market want? And how could I best use my expertise to become the trainer or expert that delivers that to them? Now here are a few tips to help you determine what kind of expert you want to be. Look at what you're great at. What stage of life are you in personally? What types of people do you find yourself most drawn to? Who do you most want to help? You know, sometimes I take people I'm working with through a four step process to help them determine who they want to be. So let me take a moment and explain this exercise. Step one is start with what you know. Take an hour of your day and sit someplace quiet and begin jotting down on a few sheets of paper all the subjects and topics you know something about. These can be anything at all that you're knowledgeable about. Perhaps fields you've worked in, books you've read, classes you've taken. Some examples might include investing, time management, health, weight loss, or relationships. So that's step one. Then look at step two. Step two is determine what kind of work you enjoy. What are you passionate about? What do you love doing more than any of your friends and family? This is something that you find yourself doing naturally and will be willing to do for free just to help people. Now for me, it's coaching and training people to become the highest versions of themselves, to live their highest vision in a context of love and joy. Now for you, it might be marketing. Might be marketing a small business or writing or building websites. Whatever it is, write that down. You can also take the Passion Test, which I highly recommend that all my students do. You can access that by buying the book the Passion Test by Janet and Chris Atwood. Now let's Move on to step three, which is deciding what categories of people you enjoy most working with. Imagine all types of people you've worked with throughout your career and you'll find there are some you love and some you don't get along with, some that are challenging and so on. And by the end of this list, you should have a selection of the kinds of people who you would love to work with and who you want to help. Maybe it's teens, maybe it's motivated athletes, maybe it's teachers, maybe it's salespeople, or maybe it's executive level women. But whoever it is, focus on them and leave the people that you don't want to work with for someone else to work with. And now let's move on to our fourth and final step, and this one is critical if you want to make a living doing what you love. Otherwise it'll just be a hobby. So here it is and it's simple. Determine who has money to pay you. I'll help you out here. There are five main categories of people who will buy your trainings, your products, your services, or attend your events. They're consumers. There's businesses, there's non profit organizations, there's government agencies, and there's schools and education organizations. Care to guess which of these has the most money? Yeah, of course you guessed it. Businesses. The great news is businesses continually spend money to train their employees to build business building tools and other operational expenses. You just need to explain clearly to the business how you or your service will help them earn that much more by investing in you. So to wrap this all up, I want you to remember this. People are looking to get a result and you are the one with the expertise that can deliver to them. So your job is to present yourself in such a way that says I've been there, I know what to do. I've had success with this and you can trust me and I will help you get the result that you want. Now, as a thank you for watching, I'll give you a free tool and resource that has helped me.
