Hi there, I'm Jack Canfield and today I want to give you a few tips on the areas of your life that you should set goals in for the New Year and share a few of my top goals for 2018. As you begin setting your New year's goals for 2018, it's a good idea to take stock of the progress that you've made toward your goals this past year. Now, for many people, this review can be unpleasant and sometimes even lead to a downward spiral. Now if you didn't achieve all of the goals you set at the beginning of the year, you may feel like you've failed. Your self esteem can take a hit and we can become disheartened and discouraged and our motivation drops. Some people actually become depressed. If this sounds familiar, it's time to reframe how you look at success. Because when you zero in on things that didn't happen, it puts your focus on what you lack rather than what you have and the things you did experience and accomplish. This subtle mental trap creates a host of consequences, which usually leads to attracting even more negativity. Remember, what you focus on grows. So the answer to this is to acknowledge, appreciate and celebrate what you did accomplish and then identify the goals that you still want to achieve. Now, achieving a goal is a lot like flying a plane. You're guaranteed to be off course almost 90% of the time, which means that if you want to successfully reach your destination, it is essential to periodically check your position and correct your course. Course, you know planes are always a little bit above where they should be, a little bit below, a little bit to the right, a little bit to the left, and they're constantly correcting. And that's what you need to do in your life. Now, December and January are the ideal time to perform this much needed review and analysis about your goals and their achievement. And when you create your new goals, keep in mind it is best to make them specific and measurable. How much and by when? By when do you want to accomplish it? Maybe you have a goal to write a book, so you should write out your goal as I will be a New York Times Best selling author by January 1, 2019. Now here are six areas of your life that I want you to set goals for. First, set goals for your financial life. How much money do you want to make in 2018? Do you want to have a side income? Maybe you want to be debt free by the end of the year? I want you to think hard about your finances and set a realistic and specific goal for the year My main financial goal for 2018 is I will earn $3 million or more in personal income by December 31, 2018. Another one is I will reduce the principal of my mortgage by $100,000 or more by December 31, 2018. Now second, you want to set a goal for your career. What do you want to accomplish at work in 2018? Do you want to make more money, get a promotion or release a new product? Two of my career goals for 2018 are I will complete and publish Living the success principles with 70 or more stories by July 31, 2018 and we will complete and begin to market our corporate Train the trainer program by June 30, 2018. Now third, I want you to set goals for your relationships. Have at least one goal for the most important relationships in your life. Think about your family, your friends, significant others. How can you help them achieve more? How can you give back to them? In what ways can you improve these relationships? One of my relationship goals is I will call one of my three sons or my grandson once a week for a minimum of 40 weeks by December 31, 2018. Fourth, have a goal for fun and recreation. Mine is I will schedule and take 135 free days, which means 135 days of no work from midnight to midnight, including 30 vacation days in Hawaii with my wife by December 31, 2018. Fifth, what's a goal for you in terms of health and fitness? It might be running a marathon or achieving your ideal weight. Perhaps it's to become more flexible or stronger. Now My goal for 2018 is to weigh 195 pounds or less, be able to do 40 push ups in a row and do 150 hours of yoga and improve my posture by December 31, 2018. Now 6 set what we call personal goals for yourself this year. What is something you want to do simply because you want to do it now? This year my personal goal is I will spend two hours a week learning Spanish so I can talk to the Hispanic people in Southern California who where I live a lot more effectively than I currently do. I will also read a minimum of 50 new books in 2018 and totally declutter and reorganize my office and my garage by December 31, 2018. So what's a personal goal for you? Make sure to write all of these goals down and then share them with at least one other person. Now here's your homework to complete after watching this video. Make a list of all your successes for the year and then set your goals for the New Year and then tell me in the comments below. What is one of your big goals that you'd like to achieve in 2018? Take time to really think about that. That is what I like to call a breakthrough goal that you want to achieve that would help you create an extraordinary life that will be a major breakthrough to a new level for you. This is possible and I want you to achieve it. Remember, review your past year and really acknowledge all the big and the little things you've achieved in all the areas of your life and and realize that you have achieved a lot and take the time to really feel good about that. That will build your self esteem and your self confidence which will then allow you to take the risks you need to take in the New Year to create your extraordinary life. So thanks for watching and remember, nothing will change for the better until you do.
