A Surprisingly Selfless Key To Success | Jack Canfield

Jack Canfield argues that cooperation extends life and success. Cooperating cells live 25% longer than isolated ones. He walks through how authors, business owners, and families succeed by building networks, identifying supporters, offering reciprocal value, and asking for help to free up time.

Hi, I'm Jack Canfield and today I'd like to share a surprisingly selfless key to success with you. But first I want to tell you about a recent science story a friend told me about the other day. It's about a team of researchers in Berlin who recently discovered that cells that cooperate are able to live longer. They find that cells in the lab that exchange metabolic products with other cells and increase their lifespans by 25% compared to cells that don't collaborate with others in this way. It got me to thinking about how cooperation helps us thrive right down to the cellular level. No person is an island, and nearly every great accomplishment came about as a result of teamwork. Even best selling authors who write their books alone in a room with a door closed rely on editors to polish their writing, agents to find them a publisher, publishers to produce and distribute the book, companies like Amazon.com and Costco and local bookstores to actually carry and sell the book, publicists and podcasters and talk show hosts to help them get the word out, and readers to recommend it to others. Not even to mention the friends and family members who help the authors take care of the day to day aspects of living such as childcare and laundry, so they're able to find the time to write. Success comes from collaboration. That's what has helped the human species.
Become the dominant species of our planet.
It's not because of our brute strength or our selfishness. It's because of how well we are able to communicate and collaborate with each other and work together to accomplish incredible things. It's about how well we are able to hold a shared vision and cooperate and collaborate to make that vision a reality. That's what makes human beings special. So take a moment to think about what does your collaboration network look like? Look at the people in your life, your personal community and business network. Are you in a solid community of people who help each other and work together to achieve common goals? Think in terms of both your personal and your professional life, and even your online and offline life. Who do you have in your corner actively cheering you on and supporting you in achieving your goals? Do you feel like you have a solid community of people who offer support and encouragement just as you offer support and encouragement to them? If so, how well are you currently leveraging that support? Now these are all really important questions to be asking yourself, especially if you feel like you've been struggling to get traction toward your goals. If you want this coming year to be a year where you accomplish some big wins in your life and your business. I really encourage you to look at how you could make community building more of a priority in your life in the year ahead. Because the reason you've been struggling could be because you've been trying to do way too much on your own instead of looking at how you can collaborate with others to achieve your objectives faster and with less effort. Now, I know a fair number of people who have some pretty enthusiastic cheerleaders in their corner, and yet they never actively reach out to these supporters and say, hey, do you think there might be any, any way we can help each other achieve our individual goals or even brainstorm some ways together so that they could present other potential collaborators with a clear vision on what they could achieve together?
It's such a simple thing to do that could get such big results.
So think about what opportunities for collaboration have you been overlooking? Who are those people in your life with whom you can cooperate and work together to achieve your individual goals? For example, can you think of any ways in which you could enlist family.
Members or friends to help with weekly.
Chores in exchange for you helping them.
In some way so you can free.
Up more time to work on your business? Or can you think of any valuable tools or services you can share with your fellow business owners and or their.
Communities that would allow you to help.
Them in exchange for getting the chance to grow your email or your social media list and introduce your services to.
Potential new clients and customers, See if.
You can identify new ways to build.
More cooperation and collaboration into your life and your business to help you achieve.
Your personal and your professional goals.
Then get really clear on who you.
Need to bring on board to do that.
And please remember that cooperation is a two way street. If you're looking for friends for colleagues.
Or potential business partners to support you.
Be sure to think about them and consider what you might be able to offer them in return for their help.
Because it's not enough to find people.
Who may be willing to do you a favor. Collaboration means working together to achieve a result that benefits all parties involved. So what can you bring to the table to encourage more people to collaborate with you? What can you offer them that will make their lives easier or help them achieve their specific goals and objectives in return for them helping you? And by reaching out to more potential collaborators and by working to make your own offerings to them more valuable and more enticing so that they're more likely to say yes, you'll be able to build a cooperative support community that will make it so much easier to achieve your objectives while making your life so much richer in the process. One of my success principals trained the trainer graduates, runs a coaching school in Greece, and she called me one day to talk about how she could expand her business. I suggested she start a mastermind group with other people who run coaching schools in Europe. She told me she didn't think anyone would want to do that because they would be afraid that people would steal each other's ideas. I suggested no matter what, she reach out to the people anyway. She did, and now they have an active and very collaborative group that shares ideas with each other and they're all thriving better because of it. All right, so before we wrap up here, I challenge you to think of one to three people you can reach out to this week to begin to build or expand your collaborative support network and then commit to reaching out to them. Send them an email, or pick up the phone and actually call them. I encourage you to do that with people at least three before the end of the week. You may be amazed at how willing they may be to collaborate with you and help you achieve your big goals in life.
