Christie Miller Interview | Jack Canfield

A YouTube interview in which Jack Canfield introduces certified trainer Christy Miller, who describes discovering the Success Principles (initial exposure while working as an LA County sheriff), applying them to personal crises (her husband Mark's 2016 cancer diagnosis and recovery—he's cancer-free five years later), and to business outcomes (entering a 90-day contest, 10x revenue increase, and winning a Porsche). She outlines practical techniques: visualization ('see what you want, get what you see'), repeating affirmations (e.g., writing 'I am the Porsche winner' 100 times daily), using goal-based passwords (e.g., '500k by 2020'), identity statements placed in physical routines, and consistent repetition tied to daily behaviors.

Christy, welcome to the studio. We're glad to have you here today.
Thanks, Jack. It's always a pleasure to be in your company.
Well, I'm really glad to have you here. So let's start by telling our audience a little bit about how you discovered my work. Our work. In the beginning, what was going on in your life and how did you discover it?
Yeah, I was first exposed to the success principles in jail. It's not what you thought. I was a LA county sheriff, and somebody had left your book in the module where I was working that night. And there's nothing to do when the inmates are sleeping. So at 2am I was reading the success principles. And at the end of my shift, I walked away from the book and sort of put it down for a while and forgot about the principles. But then you were speaking at the California Women's Conference, and I met you there, and I instantly knew I needed the success principles. And I got the book, so started reading the principles. That really resonated with me from the table of contents. I kind of cherry picked them, the ones that I needed most. And then I started incorporating it into my coaching and into my personal life also. And for me, it was all about the mindset. My clients needed to change the mindset in order to have the transformation that they wanted the most.
So talk a little bit about how that began to show up in your personal life. You know, you said you changed your personal life a little bit. You started applying it there. What happened?
In 2016, my husband Mark was diagnosed with cancer. At the same time, his identical twin was dying of Cancer. Yeah, it was. It was very tough, obviously. And he was diagnosed on Monday, and they rushed him into surgery on Friday. And as all the doctors and nurses and interns were coming into his room, he put out his hand and introduced himself. Mark Miller, cancer survivor. Yeah. And I. At first, I didn't even. It didn't register to me until the second or third time. And then with tears in my eyes, I looked over at him smiling, and he said, what? I hear all your coaching sessions. So just from hearing me coach my clients in the next room, he absorbed the success principles.
Wow.
Yeah. And it worked. He's cancer free five years later. So. Thank you.
That is so strange that twins and they would both get cancer at the same time. That's very amazing.
Yeah. I believe it could be the sympathy cancer that they talk about with identical twins, but I'm no doctor.
Well, I'm glad he survived.
Yes. Thank you. He's my everything. So it was an important battle.
Now, you apply this to your professional life as well, and you have a story, which I just think is amazing, about how you use the success principles to win a pool. Can you share that story with us?
Absolutely. So my business coach at the time was offering a Porsche Cayenne in a business contest. So it wasn't a raffle. There were certain things that you needed to do, and it was based on merit and how much you improved your income. And at first, I wasn't even going to enter the contest because, you know, all those voices in your head, who are you? You're not going to win. Nobody knows you. Forget it. And at the last minute, I submitted my application, and then the 90 day contest started. And the moment I put in my application, I declared myself the Porsche winner. And I actually got to the point a little bit cocky, feeling sorry for the 700 eligible entrepreneurs who thought they were gonna win, because I had declared myself the Porsche winner, and lo and behold, I am the Porsche winner.
Well, go back a little bit. How did you get there from the decision to do it? What did you do? What tools did you use? How did you make sure you, in fact, won?
The first thing was setting a very clear goal. I am the course winner. But then I also had to look at what is my revenue goal. So in 90 days, I 10x'd my revenue and got a certain number of points in the contest. For that, I wrote affirmations 100 times a day. I am the Porsche winner. And I bought a little Porsche at the Porsche dealership. And this is Penny. And she went everywhere with Me, you can tell her windshield's cracked, there's super glue all over her, her wheels don't work anymore. She went on a four hour endurance race with me also. And I just kept seeing it, believing it. I enrolled the Porsche dealership in my win. They let me test drive the car three times so that I could really feel what it was like. And it was so believable that the day that it was announced, it was a little bit anti climactic. I still cried and I was still excited and grateful, but it was like, well, duh, of course I'm the Porsche winner.
Now. I heard that you sold your other car the day before the contest was the winner was announced. Is that true?
Absolutely. I mean, if my husband in the hospital could act as if he was a cancer survivor before he had surgery, I had to act as if I was the Porsche winner. So I sold my car the day before to make sure the universe knew there was room in the garage. And at that point, my husband did think I was crazy, but I just, I knew I was going to win.
I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it. Good for you. Now you know my book the success has 67 principles of success. Which one is, do you have a favorite one or one that you say, this is the one I really attribute things to or I most resonate with or has had the most impact in my life?
Absolutely. It's see what you want, get what you see. And that is exactly what I did. I had the visualization. I played that movie every single day. I could picture what I was wearing. I could picture myself in the car. I could picture myself increasing the revenue. I even pictured the judges deciding who the winner was in the conference room. And it just became so believable that there was no way I couldn't act in the way that I needed to act to have the best chance of winning. And that's my number one. I use that all the time.
That's wild. I love it. Well, it's true for me too. I literally have manifested this house we're living in at the moment. My first hundred thousand dollars, my first million dollar check, owning a house in Hawaii, visualizing, affirming it, acting as if it was going to happen, believing in 100%. Everything great's manifested out of that. That's really cool. So you mentioned visualization. Is there anything else that you did or you would recommend to people to get what they want, to see what they want and get it?
Absolutely. We call it type what you want, get what you type.
Type what you want, get what you type.
Yes. It's a new principle. I love it and I teach my clients to do this. We all have those passwords that we have to type in a million times a day. So why not make your password your goal? So for example, I had a goal to make $500,000 by 2020. So my password was 500k by 2020. And my chief Wingineer, Jane, she wanted to quit her job and come work for me full time. Her password was quit2020, which was great until her boss found it. So don't leave those passwords out where your boss can find it. But it worked for her too. She joined me full time in 2020.
You call her a chief Wingineer?
Chief Wingineer.
What does she do exactly? I'm curious.
Pretty much everything. She's my right hand woman and she is in charge of making sure that we have a winning business, that our clients score big wins. We're all about fun titles in my company.
I love that. I love that. What I like about typing in the password is it's a repetition you do consistently every day. And I believe that repetition is the key to really imprinting this. Like you're 100 times a day of doing your affirmations. And there's a lot of research that when you type a new not type, but when you do a new behavior in relation to something you do anyway, like if you want to add push ups to your life every time you come out of the restroom, because we go to the bathroom, just do five push ups, you know, and it gets linked to something you're doing anyway. And so this is very clever. I love it. I'm going to have to do, I'm not going to say which one I'm doing there.
Well, I do put stars and exclamation marks into it too, so that nobody could actually break into my computer.
There you go.
But just like what you said with attaching it to something else, in my new office, I have my identity statement written on the floor underneath the floorboards. And every time I walk into my office and every time I leave, I pause right there and I say, I am a courageous, abundant, magical winner. And that just sets the tone for the day.
I love it. On the back of the door of my office, I have my vision board. So the 8ft tall vision. So I see that every day going in and out doing the same thing. That's cool. Well, you set a goal. And one of the things I just want to leave everyone with, too, is when you set a goal and you write it down as you wrote it down, like 100,000 times. It seems what happens is that the research shows that the people that write their goals down actually achieve nine times more income over the course of their life than people who don't. Like you said you 10x your income in that previous brief period of time. Good for you. Well, thank you for so much for joining us and sharing all that today. I really appreciate it.
Thank you so much. It's always a pleasure.
You're a walking billboard for what we teach.
It works.
It works good. Well, thanks again for sharing all this. And I want to just tell everyone who's watching this is something we're going to be doing and so watch out there. We'd like to challenge you to think about ways in which you can implement what we've just shared here with you this week. Think about creating an affirmation for every goal that you have. And I'm so happy and grateful that I'm now what you can just fill in that blank and make sure you tune in next week. And we're going to be doing more of these as we go through the year. I want to be introducing you to more of our graduates of our Train to Trainer program who are applying these principles and producing outrageous results in their life to inspire you to realize, just like you, these are normal people living normal lives who are now creating extraordinary results. And you can, too. So now that you've learned a little bit more about our certified trainer, Kristy Miller, I'd like to learn a little more about you. I want to hear about your favorite success principle and and why it's your favorite. So I invite you to record a video explaining one of my success principles that's most resonated with you and why or how it's transformed your life. And then post that video on your Instagram, Twitter or Facebook account using the hashtag favorite success principle so we can find your video and feature it on my channels. I can't wait to see what you come up with as well. And finally, if you found this video helpful, make sure you like it and go ahead and subscribe to this channel and subscribe so you can be notified when I post more videos like this one. So thanks again for watching and remember, nothing in your life will change until you change.
