How to Achieve Your Health Goals | Jack Canfield

Jack Canfield frames health goals as 30-day experiments. Pick one daily commitment, track it without breaking the chain, and tell someone else about it. He covers specific practices like yoga, HIIT, and walking, plus hydration rules and weight-loss approaches like intermittent fasting.

Hey, welcome. I'm really excited about what we're doing this year. We are going to take every month this year and have a focus for what we might call an experiment or a challenge. One of my friends, Steve Pablina, lives his life as a set of 30 day experiments to see what happens when he does a certain thing like meditate for 30 days in a row, become a vegetarian for 30 days in a row, not watch negative news for 30 days in a row, go to, get 8 hours sleep every day for 30 days in a row and just notice how it impacts his life. And the idea with this is not to say that any one thing is something you, you have to do, but to experiment and see what happens when you actually do do something different as you're living your life intentionally in order to be healthier, to be wealthier, to increase your wisdom, increase the quality of your relationships and longevity and all that good stuff. So this month our experiment or challenge is going to be focused on your body. You know, we all have this vehicle that we carry around called our body. It houses our soul, it houses our intellect, it houses our emotions and allows us to do some amazing things in life. But one of the things we have with this is we have to take care of it, we have to nurture it, we have to exercise it, we have to make sure we're taking in the right nutrients and water and make sure we're getting enough sleep and make sure we're also, you know, detoxing and things like that. So I'm going to give you some ideas of something you might choose to do this month. And when you pick one or you might pick several, what I want you to do is to keep track of you. Look at my book, the Success Principles. There's a chapter called Score Keeping for Success. And when you keep score, there's an underlying motivation of wanting to win, of wanting to have the highest score possible. You know, Seinfeld had this thing where he was asking a comedian, or no comedian, as Seinfeld said, you know, I want to be as good as you are. What would be your recommendation? He said, every day I want you to take a period of time and write a number of jokes, maybe an hour a day, and every day, do it every day, and then every day put an X on the calendar for the fact that you did it. And the goal is to never break the chain. So I want you to use the same technique, whether it's a calendar in your computer or whether it's a paper calendar. I want you to X out Every day you do this commitment that you're about to make in terms of your body. I'm going to share with you some ideas that I've used that some of my students have used that you can choose to use for yourself. First, for example, it might be to choose to do yoga every day. That doesn't mean you have to be one of these pretzel buddies that you see on the COVID of yoga magazine and things like that. But perhaps you get a yoga CD or a DVD or, you know, you download something or you go to a class, but you do it every single day. Another possibility would be to do Pilates. You know, I joined a Pilates class and it's been really helpful for me. Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates, who was training dancers. And it was so such good work that the government would come to him and say, we want you to teach everyone in the military to do this. It's one of the most powerful things you can do. And sweeping America is a wonderful way to stretch and to strengthen your body. Tai Chi. You know, I remember back when I was living in Massachusetts and I was taking a Tai Chi course and it was so powerful and so wonderful to get so relaxed and so stretched out and in a meditative state as you do it. Qigong is another possibility. Qi is Chinese for energy. And qigong is where you actually are starting to move the energy with physical body movements. And it's really, really powerful and very, very healing as well. Maybe you join a Zumba class and you learn how to do Zumba and you get some music and every day you do the Zumba moves. If you haven't heard about Zumba, I encourage you to check it out on the website. How about high intensity interval training? We're now finding that if you really exercise full out, like on a bike or on a stair stepper for two minutes and, and then rest for two minutes and then get back on and do it again. You can get the same amount of exercise or more in just about 16 minutes that you might get in anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour of just non stop aerobics. But you could do aerobics as well. You could join a spin class if you have a bicycle at home, or you could go bicycling every day. Weightlifting would be another thing you could add to your routine. Walking. You know, walking is now called the perfect exercise. It seems to work for the whole body. It's massaging not only the muscles but also the organs in your body as you walk. An easy 20 minute walk in the morning. Morning, let her maybe 20 minute walk after dinner is a thing you can do. I use a treadmill and an elliptical, so I don't have the impact that I would if I was jogging outside. That's another thing. Water. What if you just woke up every morning and drank one glass of water and started cleansing your body in the morning? They say you want to do 8 times 8, 8 glasses of 8 ounces. Another way to do it. A lot of the people saying if you're more active, you want to have one ounce for every pound of body weight. Some people are saying one ounce for every half a pound of body weight. So do a little research on that online. Figure out your own number of things. I just read a book recently called you'd're dying of thirst. And many of us, the diseases we're having, the inflammation we have, et cetera, is. We're just not bringing in enough water. It's just one glass of water every morning. That could be your commitment. Weight loss. You know, there's a lot of programs out there. I lost 30 pounds in 31 days once on Isagenix. Isagenix. You can go online and find that. There are many distributors around. They'd be glad to support you. It's just a shake meal shake program. You have a shake in the morning, you eat a meal for lunch and you have a shake at dinner also. I just was talking to a guy, he decided to go vegan for a month and he lost 29 pounds in 30 days eating as much food as he wanted. There's also something called intermittent fasting where you can go anywhere from 8 to 12 hours where you don't eat any food at all. And a lot of people say six to eight hours, like maybe noon to 6pm you eat two meals and the rest of the time you fast. People are often losing a pound a day doing that as well. Maybe you want to give up wine, sugar, alcohol of any kind, bread, dairy. I did that. I've lost 11 pounds in 14 days just by doing that. Because I want a weight loss program at the moment. Maybe you want to get a massage, put that in your schedule once a week, every two weeks. That'd be something you could add in there. And there's all kind of relaxation exercises you can find online. That's something you can do as well. So what I want you to do is pick at least one thing or maybe a combination of things. You intermittently, like you do weight lifting one day and then aerobics the next day. But every day you're doing something to get your body into better shape, more relaxed, healthier. So down below you'll see there's a place to leave a comment. I would love you to make a commitment and type in what you're committing to doing so that you have that commitment made public. We know that when you make a public declaration that enhances the possibility you're actually going to do it. You might want to find an accountability partner, someone that you'll keep each other accountable to do it and call each other every day and did you do it yesterday so you have that accountability built in and also look at other people are committing to perhaps there's something they're going to commit to that I didn't mention and you can do that as well. So we look forward to looking talking to you next month seeing how it went. I'll be doing it right along with you. So we'll see you then.
