Hi there.
I'm Jack Canfield, and today I want to talk to all of you change makers out there. Whether it's a change you want to make in your life or a change you want to make in yourself, or even if it's a change you'd like to make in the world around you, there's one thing you absolutely need to do in order to make it happen. And what is that one thing? You have to take action. Even if you're scared, even if you don't know what you're doing, even if you're pretty sure your attempts will end in failure. If you want to succeed, you have to take that first step and just go for it. Otherwise, the changes you want to see in your life or yourself or the world around you will remain only wishes in your head. So today I'd like to share some tips on how to move out of paralysis and into action toward your goals. Even when you're feeling nervous or scared about the action or the outcome. Because it's only by taking action that you're able to find your courage and succeed.
You know, I've known a lot of successful people in my life, and if there's one thing they share in common is that they almost always take action before they're ready. They learn about an opportunity and they act on it. They don't say, I have to know every single detail and acquire every necessary skill and resource before I leave the starting line. They simply decide what they want and they start moving toward their goals and trusting that as they continue forward, the rest of the journey will become clear to them. And the resources they need to help them on their journey will make themselves known along the way. So my first tip for you would be this action is almost always better than inaction. If there's a change you want to make in your life or a goal you want to achieve, the only way to make sure it happens is to just get started. Just get into motion. Now, you don't have to start with a big game. Changing actions, even tiny steps taken consistently will add up to huge results over time. You see, it's much easier to maintain the momentum of an object in motion than to get an object that's not moving into action. So whatever it is you want to achieve, I encourage you to simply get started despite your fear and despite what you don't know. And as you move forward, I promise you, the path will become clear. My next tip would would be to release your fear of failure. Failure is not the end of the road, as so many People seem to think it is. Too many people give up at the first sign of trouble. They run into a big obstacle and think, well, that's it turning over. It's a sign my dreams weren't meant to be. But what you have to realize is that obstacles and setbacks are part of the journey. They're a feature, not a bug. Your obstacles are what teach you the awareness and the skills and the experience. Experience you need to be able to complete your journey. So if you want to create lasting, transformative change in your life, you'll need to embrace failure as simply a tool for learning. Because the more you quickly choose to learn from your failures, the easier it will be for you to avoid repeating them in the future. Now, my third tip for you is to remember your why. And by that I mean the reason you want to create that change or achieve that goal in the first place. What kind of impact will making that change or achieving that goal have on your life? How will your life be changed by it? What will that look like for you? And how will you feel once that change has been made? When you're clear on your purpose and you're focused on the positive impact your actions are intended to achieve, you're going to find it so much easier to continue moving forward, even when you're feeling afraid or feeling uncomfortable. Which brings me to my next point.
If you want to make change happen.
In your life, you've got to get comfortable being uncomfortable. Because change, by its very definition, means doing something different. It means stepping outside of your comfort zone and doing something that is unfamiliar to you and that can be very uncomfortable at times. There will definitely be times where you're going to feel awkward or ignorant. There will be times when you make mistakes and do the wrong thing. And that's okay. It's always part of the process. But it's only by leaving your comfort zone and taking a courageous step into the unknown territory that you're able to eventually make that unfamiliar territory part of your home turf and increase your capacity to achieve success. Now, finally, my last tip is simply to allow yourself to feel your fear and take action anyway. You see, bravery isn't the absence of fear. It's the ability to take action despite of your fear. Courageous people are those who are able to feel the fear and still take action anyway. They make the attempt even when they know there's a chance they might fail. Because they know that even if they do fail, they will learn something valuable that will help them get better results with their next attempt. So if there's a change you know you need to make. Don't let your fear or your uncertainty stop you from taking just little small action steps, one action step at a time and the direction you want to go, and then take another, and then another, and then another. You don't have to take a big leap. Even tiny movements in the right direction will help you eventually reach your goals. And the more progress you make, the more momentum you will experience, which will make it easier for you to keep going in the face of obstacles and make persistent progress toward your goals. So I really encourage you to have faith in yourself and get started on your journey, because I promise you, your efforts will eventually pay off. And always remember, nothing is perfect the first time. The world's greatest masterpieces were often created across decades in the same way your life's newest practice will take time to perfect. You probably won't get it right immediately, but if you keep showing up and learning from your attempts and efforts, your success will be inevitable. You see, water doesn't carve canyons through stone because of its power, because of its consistency over time. Remember that no matter where you are in your life, you have the capacity to change and to grow and to evolve. Your life can be as large, as successful, and as happy as you want it to be. So learn to trust yourself and your heartfelt desires. Don't be a backseat passenger to your own life. It's time to grab the wheel and take your journey off of autopilot. Now here's your homework to complete. After watching this video, I want you to think of a change you want to make or a goal you want to achieve in your life and remind yourself of why you want to make that change.
