The Importance of Networking & Masterminding | Jack Canfield

Jack Canfield explains how success requires collaboration through networks and mastermind groups. He breaks networking into three stages: visibility, credibility, then profitability. A mastermind is five or six people meeting weekly or monthly to brainstorm, hold each other accountable, and share resources.

It's been said that success is a team sport. It's not just what you know, it's also who you know. Hi there, I'm Jack Canfield, and today I want to talk to you about the importance of building a network and masterminding. While you may be able to create tremendous success on your own, traveling the path of success with others makes the journey much more enjoyable. Plus, the added accountability will propel you to success faster and further than you originally envisioned. In my career, success in any undertaking has come down not just to who I know, but also who I have on my team. Along the way, I've learned a number of success principles that can help you build your own network of influencers, mentors and experts, and develop a support team of people and who can help you succeed. One of the most important skills for success in today's world, especially for entrepreneurs and business owners, is networking. In my life, this has proven to be true. The more time I've spent consciously building and nurturing my network of advisors, colleagues, clients, students and fans, the more successful I've become. Businesses and careers are built on relationships, and relationships form when people meet and interact with each other over time in an authentic and caring way. As I'm sure you're aware, statistics confirm over and over that people prefer to do business with people they know, people they respect and they trust. Effective networking is all about developing relationships. In creating your personal network, your job is to seek out people who know what you don't and who can help you connect where you can't. Initially, your goal shouldn't be to make a sale, but instead to seek advice, connections, recommendations and insights. And to the extent that you can, provide something to them in return, make sure you do that. But remember that developing genuine relationships that you can call upon at any time for years into the future potentially takes time and consideration. It requires careful thought and a mindfulness for others. So I want you to think of these three steps. Visibility, credibility, and only then. Finally, profitability. My friend Ivan Meisner, who started Business Network International, has written more books on successful networking, talks about visibility, credibility and profitability. Visibility. You first have to show up. You got to participate. You got to get out into the world and get seen. Secondly, credibility. Ask others how you can help them and then deliver on their requests if you can. That's how you develop credibility. And then when you've developed a relationship of trust and service, then and only then, you can move to profitability, where you can make requests for referrals and assistance with your business goals. If you begin networking and building meaningful relationships with others. I promise you success will come quickly. Now, this is where mastermind groups come in. We all know that two heads are better than one when it comes to solving a problem or creating a result. Now imagine having a permanent group of five or six people who meet once every week or two for the purpose of problem solving, brainstorming, networking, encouraging and motivating each other. This is what we call masterminding. Now, the basic philosophy of a mastermind group is that more can be achieved in less time when people work together. A mastermind group is made up of people who come together on a regular basis, weekly, bi weekly, or monthly to share ideas, thoughts, information, give feedback to each other's ideas, share contacts and resources. By getting the perspective, the knowledge and the experience and the resources of others in the group, not only can you greatly expand your own view of the world, but you can also advance your own goals and projects a lot more quickly. Now, when you form your mastermind group using your networking skills, consider bringing together people from different professional arenas and people who are above or ahead of you professionally or financially, and who can introduce you to a network of people and resources you normally wouldn't have access to. Although the benefits of masterminding with people outside your field may not seem obvious at first, the truth is we all tend to get stuck in our own field of expertise and seeing through that same narrow lens and doing things the same way everyone else in our industry does. But when you assemble people from different industries, different professions, or different fields of study, you get lots of different perspectives on the same subject. I don't know anybody who's become super successful without employing the principle of masterminding. Finally, I want to leave you with a bit of homework to complete. After you're done watching this video. Make a list of five to six people who you know that you could potentially build a mastermind group with and ask them if they would be interested. Now, to hold yourself accountable, I want you to leave a comment below of at least one way that you plan to build your own network, and I'll be sure to follow up with you. So thanks for watching and remember, nothing will change for the better until you do.
