A designer walks through 12 AI and design tools for animated illustrations, from free options to paid software. Learn which tools work best for different budgets and how to use them to speed up your creative work.
In the world of generative AI, it is very, very important to learn how AI softwares and tools can help you become at least 10x productive. Right? So particularly this podcast is exactly going to give you six different tools of how you can make illustrated animations in a very quick span of time. Right? So a lot of my students have also asked this particular topic to be recorded and I'm going to give you exactly the softwares and I'm going to compare an advantage and disadvantage like let's say if you're a freelancer or if you're a pro designer, you can use it accordingly for your advantage. Okay? So note it down, take a lot of notes and don't worry, I'll be pasting the description. Also for the login pages you can able to click and create that particular software and use it out. Okay, Again, I'm not even promoting any tools and all it's coming from my own experience and usage and some suggestion which I took from of the reliable sources which I'm packing you as a materials. Okay, so take a lot of notes. Let's jump into this podcast. Foreign welcome to this Design for Change podcast. Thank you for staying tuning in with me. Today we are going to understand how illustrated animations can be created in a very, very faster way. Okay, the very first tool which I'll be suggesting you, it's a free tools. Okay, first three free tools. It is called Deep Dream Generator. Okay? This is a free tool where you can use lot of images to create. Okay, so this normally works in neural networks to generate a very uni surreal images. See this is very creative. You cannot get a direct output of it so you need to use it in a very proportionate way. Later you can photoshop it or even take it out in Canva and you can able to edit it. Okay, See Canva is a very normal tool. I mean now nowadays Canva also has a lot of AI enabled features. So you can use it a secondary work or you can use directly also. So it can be a great source of inspiration for designers who's looking for creating some unconventional visuals and illustrations. Okay, Deep Dream Generator. The second important free tool is Runway ML R U N W A Y ML. Okay? It's based on machine learning software and particularly this provides a variety of pre trained models for tasks like let's say style transfer, like let's say gesher control and more. Let's say if you're building some interfaces, some experience which is more engaging for your user, you can able to do it. It's A versatile tool that allows designs to really integrate with machine learning into a creative workflow. Like let's say if your user is continuously doing a task which you are able to understand, if this is a pattern of a user, how you can integrate that style and trans. It's a beautiful tool, guys. I've not tested and tried this tool, but you can try it out. I've come to know from a reliable source this is a beautiful tool which is working. You can create a free account and you can try it out. You can use something called Art Breeder. Okay, so Art Breeder enables you to create and explore images generated by AI. Okay. It particularly it's very useful for creating design characters, scenes, some abstract illustrations and you can blend different, different images together. This is a beauty of Art Breeder. You can able to click that link and you can try it out. It's a. It's a cool tool. Okay, so now having said that, the fourth important tool is Canva. Canva is a very free tool. It's a non designer tool and if you want you can even upgrade to a premium one in Canva itself. But basic free tool Canva itself is very much enough to create some illustrations. So the next we are coming to the paint tools. Okay, so you can use first. My favorite is OpenAI tool which is Dall E D A L L E. It's a very beautiful tool, guys. You know what it's like a Dall E old classical designer and particularly the e latest movie. So they have combined this two into a product name called Dall E. And this is a combination of what do you call the latest generative AI with the kind of search which we have used in chat GPT. Okay, this is a very good image based model which if you give a prompt, it will be. It will make you give an image. So here I'll give a little caution also. See, use the AI tools. Okay? So do not love the tools, just use it. Normally what happens is people copy paste the same and they make the portfolio. That's not the case, guys. You will die soon if you do it. Die meaning in the design field. Okay, so the point is you will have to experiment with that. Take the learning and you become more smarter than AI. Modify that on top of it, build your own creativity. See, that's why I'm giving you this caution. Also I should have given you in the first of this podcast, but it's fine. So you will have to. It will be really fun when you experiment with these tools. And I also feel a lot of fun and enjoyment doing it. And my productivity goes up like anything, even in my, what you call. In my podcast creation, in my design creation, you know, I'm teaching to my students. There are, there are beautiful tools which creates PPTs, which creates a lot of what you call transcripts and other things. But the point is you will be, you will be. I mean you will have to draw that boundary how you want to take your creativity and fuse with that. Okay, so now let's come back to this. So Dall E. It's capable of creating some images from textual description and making it very unique for generating some custom illustration. Like let's say if you are having some criteria, like let's say if you want to create a running race or if you want to create a kind of a. What you call a garden. So this, this particular context, if you set for a specific criteria, it will create. There is something called Adobe Creative Cloud with Adobe Sensei. Okay, so Adobe nowadays has something called a Firefly. So it has a lot of features inbuilt to it which is relating to Premiere Pro, Photoshop, etc. But Adobe of Adobe Sensei is actually a very beautiful AI enabled tool. So this is enhanced with Adobe Sensei AI which provides features like content aware, fill, AI powered auto tagging and more. It's a very comprehensive suit for particularly graphic designers and illustrators and UI UX designers. Okay, this is a paid one. You can check out the free trial but normally industry and if you're studying in design institutes, you will get this Adobe Creative clock. I mean it's normally not expensive. Normally it's very expensive to buy it on your own unless you have a very good freelancing or a design consulting established. The third is Coral Draw. Coral Draw is a very, very, very classical tool which which even a 20 years old graphic designer or normal designer would do would know it. Okay, so now there is something called Coral Draw Graphics 2023. So you can use this particular tool for creating more professional design output which includes AI powered features like photo editing, vector illustration and layouting. It's suitable for both beginners and experienced designers. You can do to give a very short comparison between Deep Dream Generator, not breeder. You know what I mean? Deep deemed generated is a abstract like images creation guys using a neural network. It's good for experimentation. Art Breeder allows you to blend some land plate images. It makes a particular character and scene creation. So you need to know the difference, right? Knowing about particular tool is not the point. You should know how, when and where to Use. So Dream Generator is for abstract images. Art Breeder is for creating some good characters, let's say. So you don't have to be a animation designer. You can use this particular thing to put some small character for your case study. Whatever you're building in your product design and UI ux, it's as simple as that. You don't need to learn hours of time for it. You can check it out. I mean it's not like I'm saying you can try it out. And the comparison between Runway ML and Dall E is. Runway is a. Runway ML is a versatile platform for various trained models. Let's say it's very suitable for wide range of AI enhanced creative project where Dall E is more specialized from converting a text into pictures. This is definitely for designers, I'm sure. Okay. And the comparison between Adobe Creative Suit and Coral Draw is. Adobe is more industry standard too. Its latest updated application where you can find CorelDraw is little classical. But the thing is the robustness which which it has been built is beautiful. The graphic design suite is a robot alternate with AI powered tools for design and make it solid choice for who prefer a different workflow. People who are a little bit bored, they can able to choose a different workflow for it. So both are AI enabled features available. You can get aware of it. Okay, so this is the major, major important thing guys. So the second part of this podcast lot of people have asked me can you suggest me some free illustration tools? I tell you guys, there is something called Inkscape I N K S C A P if you are an iPad user or if you are a what you call Windows or Mac user, definitely it's going to be a great tool because it's a powerful open source vector graphics editor. Vector is a file where you can scale it out and zoom it out. The pixelate will not come PNG image and JPEG is different. Okay, Vectorized image is something different. So it's suitable for creating more illustrations, particularly for icons, for logos and much more if you're creating some branding stuffs and related materials. This user interface is very very intuitive guys. If you open that you will come to know it's very great for beginners. It's a beautiful tool. My favorite Inkscape and you can find something called Krita. Krita is a free and open source software where you can find what you call something for painting. It's excellent for digital illustration and it includes various amount of brushes and support advanced features like layer style and masks. You know what people who are very scared about Photoshop and other things. They can able to use this kind of a software. So pre built itself a lot of materials and illustrations will come for you. Because people who wanted to make their portfolio really illustrative or maybe they resume more illustrative or their case studies more illustrative in minutes you can able to build this without any particular problem. Guys. See, see, you need to leverage the power of AI. We should not ignore it or we should not get scared about it. The moment if you embrace this technology, you become more confident. You will have much more productivity higher compared to any other person around you. Okay, the third important thing is Graphic Designer. This is a versatile vector graphic tool that works in browser as well as desktop application. Definitely it's intuitive and user friendly. Suitable for vector illustration as well as UI design. Okay, so the three free software is inkspace, Krita Graphic Designer. Don't worry, I'm pasting you the link also you can check it out. And obviously the paid versions will be Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer and Procreate. Procreate, I personally tested iPad. It's a beautiful software, offers wide range of brushes and particularly it's on the go even you can do it in travel. You can do it anywhere. You can sit in sitting in this there and you don't need to be having a table chair. You can just hold your iPad and you can create more registration. It's more user friendly interface and it becomes more favorite for people who create digital illustration. Affinity Designers, I have not tried it. It's a professional software. They say for graphics editor. It's a one time purchase. If you are really interested you can purchase that. And Procreate is definitely cheaper. Guys, you can, I don't know like it's like 800 rupees or something per year. I guess it's. It's very much affordable. Less than 1000 rupees. I guess you can check it out. And it includes Affinity Designers, it includes a lot of advanced features for smooth work. And last but not least, Adobe Illustrator. It's a beautiful tool. Definitely it's expensive and comes with the Adobe club. Okay, so when you compare inkspace and Graphic Designer. Inkspace is a standalone application. It uses in browser and desktop. But Graphic Designer is more interface related to cloud synchronization. See, this is a small comparison which you will have to understand. And when you compare Illustrator and Affinity Designer. Illustrator is an industry design software. Like it's industry standard software. I would say it's an. I told you, it's a cloud. It's a cloud software. It's coupled with Adobe Soup products. It has seamless experience but affinity Designer is for one time purchase and it's more for freelancers and small startups industries and MSME or something like that. And when you compare Krita and Procreate, Krita has a desktop application, it's for Mac os, Linux, Windows, everything. And Procreate is exclusive for iPad. You can able to do that. Okay, so this is a whole comparison guys. When you're able to compare with different different types and and how easy is it to learn? I've told you. And what are the different advantages for student being a what you call experience designer or student and how it is compatible and how you can definitely use different feature. Okay, because there are a lot of plugins which you can check it out and there are a lot of advanced features and layers and masks options also available in each of these illustration softwares so that you can try it out more. Okay, because the more you experiment and try it out, the better you will become in confident in using the softwares and illustrations and you can make it even more better for your what you call portfolio and resume and other works. Okay, so spend limited time, don't spend too much of time. A lot of people fall in love with the software and they keep on dragging the work, but they don't really learn the process properly. You need to draw a line clearly if you want to really become a product designer. These things needs to be learned in a balanced way. If you wanted to become a freelance illustrator or only a UI designer, that's a different thing. You can completely explore only the software software. Okay, but nowadays, let me tell you guys, even if you're a graphic designer or maybe a product designer, it's very important to learn the process and use the tools whenever it's required. So do not fall for the trap of using the software for a longer time. So use it wisely and definitely I think this materials would be useful to you. Okay, thank you so much guys for checking out this podcast. And if you feel this has added value, give me a best star rating in Apple and Spotify and you can even subscribe and what you could recommend to others. But if you feel you needed a kind of mentorship support from me to learn in a personalized way, you can send an email to dfcesignforchange dfcdesignforchangemail.com where I'll be taking only few students to help them become 2x or 3x more productive to earn that much of salaries being a designer or even from a different background if you want to come into design, where I have a three months time period to help them, teach them and grow them, where they can learn stuff which even design institutes are not even teaching. Okay. So thank you so much, guys. Take care. All the best. Bye bye.
