Foreign 2024 My dear designers and my dear listeners, how are you? I guess everybody is doing fine. And let me wish you this is a very, very pleasant year and you are sitting in a gold mine right now. If you are in a design field, this year is going to make really a lot of changes in your career. Okay? Okay. Only if you take right action and you should set your momentum going. Okay. When it comes to New Year, there are a lot of people who write goals and they have lot of aspirations, they have some plans this that. But what happens after January 10 or January 15? It fades away, right? Let me tell you when you take 100% ownership and responsibility for your career and then you start really thinking about where you wanted to lead and how you wanted to script your life then and only actual action happens and your life will start change waiting for January 1st. Writing some goals is not the real point. This particular podcast is going to give you five important elements. How you can get started in design. Maybe if you are a big procrastinator, maybe if you're thinking for a very long time like you wanted to come into design field, if you want to give it a thought or many designers who are in the design but they wanted to really come up and make a lot of significant difference compared to the years what they have. This particular podcast is going to address all of these people. Okay? So take a lot of notes. Let's have a blast in this podcast. Welcome to this podcast guys. Thank you for staying tuning in with me and Design for Change and definitely this is action oriented podcast. Okay. You're not going to just listen to some theory. So I'm going to be telling you five important steps. Even if you're a designer, even if you want to come into design, if you're working as a programmer, developer, graphic designer, that doesn't matter. If you follow those five steps, you will see an actionable point. Okay, so the first step, what I would say is define your why you need to know why you wanted to become a designer. Let me tell you if that is not clear, please do not take this action. Be in your field, wherever you are. It's a very good caution giving you because a lot of people, even if they come into design do not have this clarity and most chances are they'll fail or they'll retract back to their old field or even if they are in design, they'll be really struggling. They will not enjoy the journey of this process. Design is about journey, it's not about a final goal. You design on Product and then you go to sleep. It's a journey. So if you have that why clear, and if you want to really understand what are the impact that you can create by learning ui, ux, product design, that really makes a lot of difference. It could be for problem solving, it could be for entertainment, it could be for what you call service industry, it could be for product industry, it could be just a what you call artistic expression which you want to show. It could be anything. Let me tell you. According to a study McKenzie Co. Told companies who prioritize design, they witness 32% higher growth in revenues. Understand this. That's why I told you you're sitting in a gold mine. Because design is more value than than before, right? See, 32% of the higher revenues is happening. So the second important part is after you find the why, let me give a caution again. If you still not find the why, please don't go to the step two, step three. It will not make any sense. Okay? So embrace your continuous learning mindset. See, every time you need to have a very, very open mindset to learn. Because design is a dynamic field. It's a continuous learning process you need to engage in, right? So you need to have lot of materials courses or maybe good materials to study. Or you can take a mentorship program. Even you can sign up for this program. It's up to you. I'm not asking you to join, but if you consider there are a lot of programs to really join to take care of you, right? But join something. My mentor always used to say, any program is better than nothing. Any training program is better than nothing. So join somewhere. Start your journey. Once you've decided why you want to join design, right? And then you start mingling with some design communities, whatever is available, based on your cost and budget and your availability, you can able to do that. Can I tell you something? According to LinkedIn, 94% of the employees who stay longer in a company that is investing more on their career development. See, people will stay in the market only when they are continuous learning. And even though that attitude should be there always with you, set that goal, guys. Because people don't set goals like I wanted to become a continuous learner. People are setting goals like I want to earn 1 lakh per month. It will not happen. It's a byproduct. Money is a byproduct. You need to understand this. If you install this mindset and if you take the money out of this equation, then you really add lot of value to your company. The more value you add, the more money you will get. It's as simple as that. You can listen to an audio called Stranger Secret from now on, okay? Because Stranger Secret will build you consistency. Every day, 30 minutes you can search in Spotify. Stranger Secrets, a 35 minute audio by Earl Nightingale. Okay? You can, you can write it down, you can watch it in YouTube, you can hear it in Spotify. You can even play it in 1.5x speed. Whenever you're traveling, whenever you're doing some mundane job, there are five reasons why I'm asking you to do it. First, it will build you great consistency. First 21 days you will forget it guys. So write it down somewhere. Keep a reminder. Ask your friend to remind you. First 21 days, do it, do it, do it without gap. After that it will automatically become a habit, okay? It will build a very strong habit for you. Second benefit is you will start imbibing the thought what a Nightingale has said. You know what? The more you give value and service, the more money you will get in fact. So that is a very big what you call science which is explained in that video. And you know what? It's. It's a very natural flow of information about Earl Nightingale talks about how somebody wants to really become success. And what is the one differentiation factor one or two times if you hear guys, nothing will happen every day you need to hear twice. I still listen twice. The moment when I started learning about this secret, which is a strangest secret by Earl Nightingale, which has changed a lot of people life. It will reprogram your inner thought. That is the third advantage. It will reprogram your what you call wiring in which how you see the world. You will not see a work like work and come back and take holiday. This that you will see that as a big service. You will see that as a big devotion. Whenever you go to temple, right? Or mosque or church, how much devotion and duty people have. And have you seen military men, have you seen a mother who is taking care of a child? So they won't complete 100% to that particular job, right? They don't know they'll get any expectation out of it or not, but they give 100%. So that is the kind of rewiring will happen for you when you start listening to change the secret. Fourth is you will have psychologically a good feel that you are really equipping yourself and keeping yourself in a mental nutrition diet, right? Because normal food nutrition is fine. But mental nutrition is very, very required every single day. Twice. You know what if we do it consistently guys, definitely. I'm telling you the fifth benefit is in 31 days. You will see your life started changing in a different way. Just 31 days. Don't take much. Just 31 days give. That's the point. Okay, so the third important point is now come to build your network and seek some good mentorship. Join some good quality program, have a good networking and talk to different designers. Your friend circle or maybe outside of your community. Or maybe if you're someone who came to know that he's a designer in a company. Try to give some LinkedIn Connect and Facebook Connect. Try talking with some people and please go for a very good mentorship. I'll tell you why it is very different from joining a course online material nowadays thousands and thousands of courses is there. It's not about information. You right now have information. If you open ChatGPT4 or even if you open Google, Google Buy, world's best professor is already there with you. It's not about information, it's about the accountability. It's about the guidance. It's about the personal correction one can do who is really watching you. That's why I always believe in mentorship. Even after my master's degree, only I understood this power of mentorship. If I would have understood this, probably I would have not taken higher studies at all. Because nothing really matters. You do PhD or this that until unless somebody is really correcting your mistake, where you're going wrong and what's your real goal, you can't improve in your life. I started writing goals after having a right mentor. Seriously, to be very honest, I was writing goal. I wanted to be rich. I wanted to be healthy. That's not goal. Goal is something very specific. I really learnt goals from my mentors. I spent lots of money and time and energy with them. That's how I learned, right? So you need to understand the importance of it. Successful designers, successful organizations, they know the importance of it. Once if you understood this third step. Guys, now start building your projects and portfolio. Do not build only portfolio and wait for job. Nothing will happen. Follow, follow the sequence. You need to have a well curated portfolio. Lot of podcasts I've recorded for making good portfolios. In standard portfolio, you can let me tell you, there are people who make stunning portfolios and industry really wants them. Even for interns, they give 50, 60,000 rupees. That is the power of having a very good portfolio. One of my senior in nit, his name is Shivakumar Tandavela. His portfolio was splendid. He's been hired From Microsoft, one of the top paying industries in the country as a designer. Now he's working in China, he's paid like crazy. He has a huge talent. The way in which you have your portfolio, it lands a great impression on your mind of the recruiter. Can I tell you something? Adobe made a survey 67% of the hiring managers consider portfolio more than your degrees or education or something. See, it doesn't matter you study in a big design college or small design college or you don't study. People care about what you really got in your skills and showcase it in your portfolio. Adobe has made this survey 67 percentage hiring managers. Guys, so why do you think you really need a design degree? If you have, it's okay. But that doesn't really matter what you wanted to show. Are you really showing that your real talent and potential and skill set. Then people will hire you, they'll love to have you. Okay? And once if you have a very good portfolio, then you can really make a lot of move in your career again. Do not delay. Guys, take action. Once all these four steps are there, please take action. Because hearing through this podcast or listening to lot of materials and going through mentorship program, nothing will change unless until you take action. Whether it's right or wrong, that doesn't matter. Even when you are in design, you will make thousands of concepts. Only one or two will get selected. Next will be rejected. It's a part and parcel of life. It will be like that. We have 8 billion, what do you call it? Species. We have 8 billion people and a lot of species is there. Billions of species is there and we have a 3.4 years of billion evolution. Right? Right. How much times plants and animals and humans have really failed and come up, come up and failed and come and fail to come and then only be a world as the best beings surviving in this planet. Right? Don't have this fear, just apply. It's fine to have a lot of rejections. The more you have, the better you will evolve as a person. Always have motivation. If you listen to stranger secret and start your day, write your goals and start your day, your day will be something very different. I'll tell you shortly how to write a goal. Remember smart goals. There are some art. Okay? You can write a very specific goal. Okay. Like I wanted to become a product designer. Measurable. Okay. I wanted to earn 2.1 lakh per month salary being a product designer. Achievable. Yeah, it's achievable. Definitely possible. People are getting in the industry and it is Relevant how it is? Yeah, you know like let's say if you're a totally different field, you want to come into design, give it a thought then write a relevant book. Don't write if you are something different and if you are doing that then your action should be very much aligned. Your action steps and everything should be relevant. So then you will reach that 2.1 month lakh per month salary as a designer over the time. Right. And the final is T S M A R T T is a time bound. I will become a product Designer, earn monthly 2 lakh rupees salary before this December 2024. I am giving a one year time for it. Yeah. This is called goal. S M A R T Smart, specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bound goals. Let me tell you guys, if you have this kind of a smart goals and when you are listening to Stranger secret, let me tell you, your life is not going to become the same. I've seen people writing goals and achieving it in less than 20 days. There was a guy in my program who has achieved a goal of. He write the goal like he wanted to earn 2x salary. He was getting some 25,000 or something. He got 3x salary before the time he wrote the. I mean he wanted to achieve the goal. He wrote a goal. He wants to build his own home before the end of this year. He has achieved it. And there was a person in my program who has written a goal that I wanted to get into that relationship of a person and then they achieved it. So goals will not only give you career success, it will give you every part of your life. Go and learn goals in a very deeper way. The moment when you started learning goals, let me tell you guys, your life will never be the same. Just 30 days, strange secret goals. You will.
