Jagadeesh P explains how designers can build standout portfolios using AR and AI tools. He covers three key elements: interactive storytelling, AR integration, and open source contributions. The podcast recommends specific tools for both freshers and experienced designers to level up their work.
If you wanted to really make a standout portfolio, whatever strategies you might be applying will not be in vain, will not be in real use. Let me tell you why. The expectation of portfolio and the expectation of the people who are going to view your portfolio will be very, very different. And it keeps changing over the trend. How do you really catch that trend? How do you really keep that very, very what you call special? When you wanted to engage your audience with your portfolio? This podcast is going to give you three different standout points, particularly using AR interaction augmented reality interactive way. And I'm going to suggest you seven AI tools which is really proven in industry as well as suitable for freshers. How you can make a very good standout portfolio in very short span of time. Okay, so take a lot of notes and I'll be pasting some resources as well. So with that, let's jump into this podcast. Now let us understand the three important aspects when it comes to portfolio. Right, So a lot of people make lot of illustrations, lot of animations, lot of what you call cool graphics, and they play with a lot of editorial design skills. Rearrange the content here and there. Let me tell you, these are all substandard things which 80 to 90% of the designers do. Even a fresher or an experienced guy. This podcast I'm going to be telling three special elements where you can take your portfolio to next generation. Even I would say it's next gen portfolio making so that you can attract wide audience compared to international audience, etc. Okay, so the very first element is interactive storytelling. When it comes to storytelling, you need to be pro in that. We have recorded a lot of podcast in that. But just to recap, you need to have a hero, you need to have a builder and make sure you keep an obstruction over it, okay, the circumstances, how the hero is going to overcome that and become successful and reach the final goal. Once you have this for your projects, your story becomes more interesting. Yeah, of course your project should be taken and compared to a story. If you have that clearly done, then you can make an interactive storytelling experience. You can design a virtual environment or even a 3D interactive space where visitors can navigate through the projects like a journey. Like let's say if you made a architecture or if you made a product which is like a switch, like a physical product or something like that, you can show a physical switch of this during an interaction medium so that user can go and switch it on and see the experience. How does it happen in 3D space? This could be a virtual gallery or Even a futuristic cityscape to just show your interaction how it is even you can design an application and you can show people are going into that particular room to even operate that particular feature. And once the interaction is happening, the room ambience changes. You can show how yellow color lighting and green color lighting is changed using your application so that kind of a simulation could be done. Each project can be very distinct for the environment so that users can explore by clicking on different elements. You can incorporate some animations, little sound effects, even you can gamify that to engage your users and make experience very, very memorable. Okay, the first important thing is interactive storytelling. It's not just storytelling, it's how you make people interact with that. Because when people watch just like that story, the engagement will be good. But when you have interaction, it becomes even more, even more engaging. I'll tell you why. When you make somebody take action, when you make somebody press the button, so that becomes very interesting for somebody to engage in a content. Okay, the second important element is augmented reality integration. So taking advantage of AR related technology to bring your 3D models to life. So creating an augmented reality markers or even QR codes is very, very easy nowadays. The moment if you scan your code in their mobile or your viewers is viewing that particular thing in their mobile, so what happens is it becomes very easy and it's more seamless. Also the moment when you, what you call paste the ZR content inside that QR code and scan it, people will be able to much easily reveal that a lot of website has this AR view for their product or e commerce website or whatever it is. Okay? So this is not only to showcase your technical skill, but it also adds an element of surprise. People will be really delighted to see how you're made. See, this is the only way you can uplift your portfolio into next level. Let me tell you guys, nobody will be even able to touch whatever you're doing. Your portfolio will be like next level. And people will be really, what you call excited to really understand, okay, how this person would have done it, what is the, what are the element which he would have taken and how possibly he would have done it, right? So where everybody will be showing some static portfolio, right? Like let's say a behance profile or something like what you call some PDF file or where it's a moving, just like a slideshow, but whereas you would have created some kind of a visual engagement and a story so that it becomes a very prominent point that you are a storyteller, that which is the Essential quality of a designer. Okay, so this is a very important element. It's a futuristic and a tech savvy touch for your portfolio. And consider creating AR business cards as well and markers as well that the potential client or employees can really scan and they can able to get a more what you call interaction and talk to you in a more different way. These are very easy to create. Guys, don't worry. In the last of this podcast I'm going to be suggesting you seven AI tools, AR tools as well, which is mostly augmented reality tools. It's all templated drag and drop easy software. You can able to do it. Okay. And also the third important part about this podcast is collaborative projects and open source contribution. So you can showcase your skills through collaborative projects. You can use open source contribution. You can create a portfolio highlighting projects where you collaborated with other artists, developers, designers. See, this is very important. When you are showcasing that collaborativeness, people will think like you are really aware. You are very conscious. You are having that leadership ability to collaborate with different designers and developers so that your value really goes high. Not only showing the tech savvy part of it, it's also showing your leadership ability of it. Include some of your details and the role and the challenges you faced and your innovative solutions, how you brought to your table. So rest. You know, a lot of people do the portfolio and I've recorded three particular podcasts in making an exceptional portfolio. But this is something very next generation. Okay, so you can do open source contributions not only to demonstrate your technical proficiency, but also to make sure you actively engage design community. Considering a very good creating visual timeline or infographic, a map of your entire journey. And you can create your resume in that way so that people will have an infographic view of where you are and how you navigated when you completed your college, what's your work experience, what your projects did. You know what? This becomes a more collaborative engagement and emphasizing the skills and it will gain you knowledge along the way. So these are some of the best element. Guys, let me tell you the tools what is really useful for it? Okay, the very first tool I would suggest you for immersive storytelling is you can use a tool called Aframe. It's called a web VR framework tool. So why this is very good is actually this particular tools allow you to easily create virtual reality experiences on the web itself. You can build your immersive 3D environment using the templates, integrate them in your portfolio and you can create a very good unique storytelling experience. It's a beautiful tool. The Second important augmented reality showcase tool is Zapworks. Zapwork is very, very user friendly, guys. You know what? It's AR content creation platform. It's much higher than Immersive Storyteller which is a frame tool, okay? You can use it to create AR experiences, generate easily QR codes and embed them in your portfolio. And if you would have seen many, what do you call world class portfolio makers and designers, they will have every project's QR code. So that's the way to showcase their product, right? So imagine if you just show a render rather than if you show something like an interesting 3D interaction AR experience, how does it really feel? Even if you make a very small product that becomes like a super, what you call super stylish and most futuristic product what you made. So that level of uplift you will get so viewers can scan this code and they can view it in their mobile tab, desktop, whatever. Okay. So the third important collaborative tool is I would say GitHub. GitHub. It's a go to platform for collaborators on open source projects showcasing your collaborative work. By linking to specific repositories, you can create a visual timeline infographic of your portfolio summarizing your journey and your contribution towards it. This is, this is a very good tool, guys. Okay, now let me tell you some freshers tool like let's say if you are a fresh designer, but if you don't know what to do in AR augmented reality. Hey Jagdish, you're saying augmented reality experience will upload my portfolio. What tools I have to really learn? I've already told you two, three tools. But let me tell you specifically, there is a tool called Spark AR Studio. Don't worry, I'm pasting all the link of these tools, not promoting any tools. Guys, this is coming from my experience, you can try it out. Okay? And it's a tool called Spark AR Studio. It's developed by Facebook. It's a. It's a user friendly tool for creating some experience and effects on Facebook and Insta. It's accessible for designers. It's a, it has a range, wide range of experience levels. Offers some tutorials also to help you understand. Because AR is relatively new, that's why they have a tutorial inbuilt. The second tool is Lens Studio by Snap Income. Okay, so why it is important? It's a powerful AI tool by Snapchat. Everybody knows Snapchat how it really works, right? So it's a magical tool. It allows you to create some AR experience for Snapchat you can even create your post in that way so that you can do it right? Yeah, you can use Snapchat itself to create your post and put it in your social media page and hyperlink it to your portfolio. It is a AR tool which is no coding guys. It's designed for users who want to quickly create content within very short span of time. You can bring your 3D models to life, particularly if you don't have a knowledge in 3D models. You can put your 2D illustrations and it will show you a 3D representation of it. You can create some interactions, you can make that users having that experience of interaction and you can embed this in your portfolio. See, remember all these tools can be embedded easily into your portfolio. The fourth tool, what I will suggest you is 6D AI. It's focused on creating persistent augmented reality experience. It allows you to build some AR content that can be anchored to specific location. See, this is very important when you are located in a room. If you wanted a 3D spatial arrangement of your product, you can specifically anchor to that particular point and spatial location. Like let's say 00 coordinate axis. You can able to view the same for your user in that same particular axis and spatial orientation. This is very professional guys. People who are very experienced and want to show a professional experience of their product and interaction. They can create this unique and dynamic element of this thing and you can able to add it in your portfolio. The fifth tool is AR JS. This open source JavaScript library for creating AR experience on the web. It's easy to use, it doesn't require extensive coding skill. But people who are a little bit interested in coding can try it out for other people. It's not recommended. Okay, you can input this in your portfolios directly. Experiment with this tool guys. See which is really works for you better and then you can able to create this. Okay, I'm suggesting you three industry tools also. Okay. Because if you are an experienced guys, you must be trying it. There is a software called Unity 3D. It's an exceptional software, robust, solid build. And some of the industries have their own softwares. But Unity3D is really good. It's for AR Foundation. Okay, with AR foundation is the latest Unity3D you have. So why Unity3D is a powerful game development engine. Simple. You can create a lot more engaging experiences with that. It's a foundational package. It becomes a robust tool for creating AR experience. It provides advanced capability, what designers needed to do with some technical skills. You can use a software called Vuforia V U F O R I A. It's a popular AI tool, AR tool, augmented reality tool with image recognition, object recognition, spatial mapping. It's a versatile tool for beginners as well as developers. Guys, wufori is the best tool for creating some image recognition so that you can find out what kind of an image is placed over there. Okay, you can use a software called ARCore, which is a Google's platform for building AR experiences on Android devices. It's widely used, guys, I mean, it's a good choice if you're creating some AR content for your Android users or something. And you can use ARKit. For Apple users, we could say ARKit is Apple's AR development platform. It's designed for some creating experiences in iOS devices. See the AR Core. And ARKit is specifically for Android as well as Apple. So primarily your iPhone users and iPad users can use this arkit, which is very crucial to consider sometimes a lot of products are viewed in iPad iPhone, so that's the reason behind it. And you can try a tool called wikitude wikitud. It's a AR SDK tool that offers a range of features which includes geolocation, tagging, image recognition, 3D model rendering, suitable for developers, suitable for designers looking to create diverse environment. If you're able to use these tools, guys, I'm telling you, you're going to nail your portfolio into a next level. You could have written some nine or 10 tools, more than seven I've given you. You can try it out two or three tools and see how it really works.
