Are you really clear in your design process? Are you really finding out a proper way to navigate in your career and do lot more outputs of what you imagined before coming into the design field? Are you really aspiring that? Are you really doing that? Or if you are a fresher who are just started up in design, are you feeling that confidence to get started? If you are having that answer, that's good. If you're not, this podcast is going to structure you. Are you really clear in your design process and are you really clear in your design world or not? Okay, so with this we'll dive into the topic of clarity in design. Lot of times there is a big perspective missing for the designers. It is not about the skill set. Skill sets can be easily learned 80% of the time. Mindset is important. Skill set is only 20 percentage focusing on draining clarity in design, nobody really cares for. People just get a brief. They get talk to customer, they get the piecework, they get the things done. But asking the question, are we really clear in what we are trying to solve and are we finding out the purpose of why? The why is one of the important questions in the whole career of design. I used to ask my students to write it down and in a specific workbook which is why and they ask them to write it. Why did you really come into design field? This answer is a source of all your inspiration and creativity. And the way in which you get success and height of happiness in design will be determined by the answer. What you say. So the importance of why is very, very very very felt in designers community. But lot of people are not taking it seriously. See, design will communicate a purpose. Design will communicate a message. Design is about creating user experience. Design is about solving the problem. So what is your why towards that? That is the most, most important thing. And if you're able to empathize in finding a meaningful solution for your customer through your process, then probably you are in the track of exploring your own things in a better way. Okay, see there are some mistakes and there are some challenges and there are some solutions which I'll be sharing with you guys. Okay. Even some of the experienced designers do lot of freshers really wander and how we can really structure it. Okay, so the first is the common mistakes. What people do is they overlook at the user needs. They think okay this is what user might need rather than really understanding as it is. This is a very big problem. Why people not end up in proper solution making they think their own assumptions and they overlook that user needs. Right? Many times it happens, I've seen, to be very honest, I also did that mistakes. If you are in the creativity field, we will always tend to slip away and make something very fancy. Not really understanding the need of the user, neglecting the importance of collaboration. That's the second mistake. People really don't gel with other people, right? Soft skills is very poor for us. Money is there in soft skills. My mentor used to always say, if you really are good in soft skills, no matter what field you are, you will be becoming most successful in that career fast. So you need to know how to talk to people, collaborate. People take the advantage of leverage, of their strength and how you can really mingle and collaborate with them. If you're neglecting that, that's a big mistake in design. The third is falling into the aesthetic trap without knowing the functionality. There is a functionality for a product, right? That's how user gets benefit. If you're not focusing on functionality and then you're only focusing on aesthetics, what happens? That becomes a big mistake and you deviate the thing very easily. This is the third mistake. The fourth mistake is ignoring the process of iteration. People think, I'll make only one solution and that should be the best solution. Nature doesn't work that way. You know, nature evolves for over 8 billion years, right? We have that much of iterations and evolution happened in all the human organisms and all the plant species. And this entire world has survived lot many storms, lot many chemical attacks, lot many ice ages, lot many sea coverage like huge disasters have happened. That is how everybody has got that resistance to stay focused and stay in this particular era, right? Iteration is a process of nature. If you are not able to iterate and find out that you are going against the law of nature, which is not correct. So that is the fourth mistake. And I'll tell you, even experienced designers do this mistake. They are very much resistant to get a feedback. That's the first mistake they do. They think they know everything because they have experience, right? Second is they are very reluctant to new ideas. This is the most amazing thing because people don't care about what is coming in the market trend. And the third is overlooking at diversification of the perspectives. They are not overlooking. They are really not observing it. They are overlooking it. Okay, this perspective can be like this, okay, let me form a new trend. Okay, let me do this new thing. What will happen is if you're not really understanding the need of the customer, these kind of things will happen. So these are all the three mistake even experienced designers do. And the big challenge is what design People face to really not have clarity in design is particularly newcomers I would say the freshers foundational design principles they are not learning very much like colors, sketching, typeface, composition, understanding the basic research processes and design processes and methods. Because people directly want to build some screens, some fancy screens, some fancy 3D models and take prototype. But that's not the case. How do you really do that? It's by understanding the foundational principles. That's the first mistake people do. And the second is not staying updated with the industry trends and tools. They their learning curve stops once they complete their college, right? Let me tell you guys, once a book is published, more than 60 to 70% of its content get obsolete when it comes to the hand of the people after publishing. So education is very, very, very much absolute. Whatever you're learning in one or two years, it is definitely getting obsolete. If you're not focused towards learning that and updating that continuously, you are in a big mistake zone. Particularly freshers have a tendency. I came to job, so then I'll start earning money. Then I'll not update myself. I'll just work with whatever skills you have. Point is, already AI tools and automations is happening in lot many areas. Most chances are you'll be automated and you'll be thrown away simple. That's what will happen. Nobody is going to come and tell you hey, you need to improve this, that and all. People will automatically automate the system and then they'll ask you okay, we don't need your services, you can leave. That's it. So you need to be very careful to update the trend and tools. How you can leverage this AI and technology to really use it to your advantage. Okay? The third mistake what they do is they don't know how to balance the creativity and practicality. One of the big big problem. Even experienced freshers, everybody does it when it comes to a field of creativity. I always told you it will be more trendy, it will slip from your hand, it will be more aesthetics, it will be more fancier. But if you're not able to meet that practicality, whether it's possible to really make it, whether it's possible to really program it, that is a big balance which people miss out. This is the big problems which freshers face. Okay? And let me tell you the solution for all these things, guys. See the first solution is you need to be a lifelong learner, triple L lifelong learner and be more curious towards learning new things and trends. If you don't like also please install this attitude guys. Because this is going to save you like anything. You already know how the trend is changing, right? So in the job market and other things, it's good to install this habit whether we like it or not. The second is you can have a collaborate, open to talk to people, you can talk to your seniors, you can talk to your boss, you can talk to your mentors. You can find a good place to learn. So these are all some of the things which will make you open to learn new new things. And the third is failure as a part. People don't accept it. You need to accept failure as a part. That's a big solution. If you apply the solution, you will see lot many new learnings and you will iterate and then you will move ahead in your design career. The fourth is have a very good network of people, friends and circle of your designers and community. And you can even take a very good mentorship program. Because I would normally recommend mentorship programs because somebody, if they are monitoring you and they will be able to give you the exact mistakes, what you're doing, they'll be able to correct your perspectives, they'll be able to guide you properly so that you will get some results. Accountability, partnering, right? We have. So if you're not able to do that, what happens is primarily you will miss your focus and then you will do something very random. So have this clarity of having a good mentorship program. Because school learning, college learning is not becoming very successful because people have their structured syllabus right? School and colleges, we complete that, we get a degree, read, write, remember. But if you're learning through a mentor or a system, what happens is the chances are you will be having a more clarity in what you're doing and you will be delivering results. End of the day, if you're not delivering results in solving problem, you will not be paid for anything. Simple. If you understand this, you will have a clarity in your design career. And let me give you guys, you can also do one thing. You can take some of the resources which is like Design Matters, it's a very good podcast which you can listen, which is Design Matter. And also it was by Debbie Millman and there are a lot of books and publications also in Debbie Millman, you can read Design Matter and you can, you can listen to another podcast called Design Better. So these are all the things which will give you clarity in terms of perspective in design. See, a lot of designers will come and do this podcast. Experienced designers, animation designers, product designers. Different, different people have different notion about how they build stories, how they solve problem and all. So this will kind of avoid a lot of mistakes and make you open as an action. If you can listen to this podcast and subscribe to them, that would be a great benefit for you guys because listening to this podcast will not change anything. Taking action will change. Okay. I hope you would have loved this podcast. Thank you so much guys. We'll see you in another episode. Bye bye Wall.
