Ep 214| What is Design ? Fundamentals of fundamentals

Welcome to Design for Change. What do you mean by design? What is design? People really ask this question and they're very curious to get the answer. People explore in a different way. Some people say it is user centric design and people has to really understand the human needs. It's all about user. So some people say it's all about aesthetics and it needs to be very beautiful. The screens, the products, the experience should be great. And some people talk about business angle. If nothing is made as a business then people can't enjoy this. People talk about technology, people talk about costs. What does meaning mean by design? Have you ever asked this question yourself? Beginning of my career till now, it's been more than eight years. The answer keeps changing over the time. It's not a one answer which I really really got. Okay, when you go to Google Chat GPT, you will get some definition. Okay? You'll find a lot of videos in social media telling about what is mean by design. But to be very, very honest, there is no one such answer for design. If I ask an engineer, he'll say what is the value of gravity? He'll say 9.8. Okay? If I ask what is the room atmospheric pressure? He'll say 1.4. So the answer is very firm for engineering kind of questions what we ask. But when it comes to a question like this design, type out in the chat, what do you think by design in one word, in one word, not in one line or big stories, one word. I can assure you that people who are typing in this chat will have all different, different answers of what is mean by design. Even without seeing that I'm telling you because that's the nature of it. Okay Jagdish, so what is mean by really design then? How do I really understand this and how do I draw a boundary for this and all these things, right? Let me give you my eight years of experience in just one word. Maybe you can get an understanding now or maybe you will understand it after years or maybe you won't even understand. That's okay, no problem. The answer what is mean by design is you. Yes, it's you. If you really understand you, if you, if you, if you really understand you, then your understanding design will be very different. The moment when you go inside and find out the real reason why you wanted to be a designer, why you wanted to be a product designer or a UI UX designer or the, or the experienced designer or whatever it is. The moment when you really find out what problem you're solving and what is the exact hat which you're going to wear in order to solve that problem and the motivation behind it is really going to define you. What does meanwhile designed for you? Yes, wherever you're coming from a lower middle class family or upper middle class family, a luxurious family or maybe you don't have anything in your life and then you're. That is an imperfection of you because of that two sided perception of what you have is going to make all difference in the concepts, what you do in the designs, what you do in the screens, what you build. And that is what is you and that is what is really, really designed. There is no particular definition for that. Like design is all about arrangements or patterns or. Or maybe design is about only aesthetics or it's about art, it's about technology. All this answers is not going to help you out anything. If this basics is really strong in you and if this answers whatever I told you, you're getting it clear. I'm sure you will make a lot of difference in the concepts or the designs, what you do and you will redefine your own design in a different way where that's the unique process for you.
